Doubleplay21 Verified Member Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 ESPN gives a grade of B to the Jays for the Jansen trade.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 I was reading the comments from three different articles about the trade over on NESN. The Red Sox fans are going ballistic that they traded three prospects for a "s*****" hitting catcher when they are good at both catcher positions. Little do they realize that Danny is a dead pull RHB and will make the Green Monster his bitch. I can't think of any situation better for Jansen to hit in.
bigshot84 Verified Member Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 again they try to trade one by one stuff which is driving car without destination
Governator Community Moderator Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 again they try to trade one by one stuff which is driving car without destination No one wants multiple bad players..These are players that simply must be moved given the curcumstance and you can't risk waiting until Tueaday to try to package them. If your trade partner fills their hole elsewhere you screw yourself.
metafour Verified Member Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 Having Danny Jansen who I assume is the longest tenured Jay find out via the clubhouse TV is such a gutless move I actually wouldn’t have believed it a day ago This is such a nothingburger storyline. They already told Jansen several days ago that he was going to be traded. Just like they told Kikuchi (this is confirmed). He only "found out on TV" because the trade leaked before it was even official. Big f***ing deal. If they already told him to expect a trade, who gives a crap, seriously? Maybe they should have had Jansen sitting with them in the front office all day so he'd find out the second after a deal went through? They could even all go to the bathroom together to make sure he didn't miss a trade going through while someone was on the toilet?" We're at the point where everyone is so dejected that every "move" or "non-move" is emotionally hyper-exaggerated to s***.

You still call down to the club house and they should have pulled him from the game. In any business, it would be the professional thing to do. You don't let an employee hear news like that or about anything significantly work related via the news.
metafour Verified Member Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 You still call down to the club house and they should have pulled him from the game. ? He didn't play yesterday and the trade was formally announced around ~6 PM EST? Its not like he was the starting catcher and found out on the TV as he was about to go up to the plate to bat.
Nexii Verified Member Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 Yea it's pretty bad not giving Jansen a call. Though like the Berrios playoff pull, it's a sign of a much bigger problem within the Jays. A mindset that analytics people can solve everything and actual managers aren't needed. Just look at the kinds of managers they've chosen to hire - ones that won't question the questionable analytics. Probably will take Shapiro and Atkins both being gone to change that culture. Player development is where all the surplus value is these days, and the Jays have not done well. They've done fine with free agency but there's not a lot of juice to squeeze there with modern sabermetrics.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 ? He didn't play yesterday and the trade was formally announced around ~6 PM EST? Its not like he was the starting catcher and found out on the TV as he was about to go up to the plate to bat. Trade info was coming out prior to the game ending. Jansen was going out to catch the pitcher as Kirk was getting ready. He might have been used as a PH or gone in the game if an injury etc. If Passan and Rosenthal are announcing finalization of a deal, it is already to the point of 90% done. Not hard to at least get a Khaki to call down and give a heads up...
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 If the trade was leaked and seen on TV before it was officially then that's the end of this story. You want the Jays to call the clubhouse and give Jansen the heads up that they are closing in on a deal to move him - before it's even a done deal and/or official? Even if they've already had previous discussions with him to inform him of their intent to trade him? That's f***ing stupid. People hate the FO, which is fine, but you can't hold this against them.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 I see absolutely no issue with how they handled the trade. How much more awkward would it be had they told him and the trade fell through last minute because that does happen. You don't tell the player anything until you have news to share. It's just that social media will have that scoop early and get it out. Front Offices have very little control of that.
The_DH Verified Member Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 so now Schneider is saying that he told Jansen while Jansen says he heard it from the tv? Not impressive.

Imagine calling a guy 3 times “oh we think you might be going to Seattle…. Actually nevermind its probably NY…. Actually its Boston”
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 Right, exactly. Imagine calling a guy 3 times “oh we think you might be going to Seattle…. Actually nevermind its probably NY…. Actually its Boston” Yea, but when the news broke the deal was way past that point. Probably just waiting on medicals, if that. I did some research and not just MLB. Obviously this situation has happened many times. The common denominator was it was the off season, player was travelling, etc. There were some cases where the GM called down to the player in the facility and said, heads up, this is what is going down. It appears by all indication that when this trade news broke, it was pretty much a done deal. Especially considering less than an hour later is was confirmed as done and they had the social media posts ready to go.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 so now Schneider is saying that he told Jansen while Jansen says he heard it from the tv? Not impressive. Jansen wasn't playing so he could have simply walked into the club house during the game, saw the rumour that he was traded on TV and after the deal was confirmed Schneider told him. Until the deal is confirmed there's no point in letting anyone know.
Key22 Verified Member Posted July 29, 2024 Posted July 29, 2024 According to Jano, Ross had discussed with him that he might be traded a day or two before the trade. So, to be fair, they gave Jano a heads up that this was likely coming.
