Laika Community Moderator Posted July 25, 2024 Posted July 25, 2024 okay IQ54 is actually funny though
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 25, 2024 Posted July 25, 2024 Who are all the teams that realistically would trade for vlad right now that's looking for 1b/dh offensive boost? I think they'd also need money to spend in hopes of locking him up after if it works out. Red Sox maybe Padres? It's not like 15 teams are in play here. Astros, Mariners, Brewers, Pirates, Red Sox, Twins, Cubs, Padres Can probably rule out the Brewers and Pirates for financial reasons. Cubs are fringe contenders now so maybe not them. Red Sox, depends on Casas' medicals and that's an in-division trade so not likely at all. Twins have depth on offense so probably not them. Astros, Mariners, Padres.
AMS528 Verified Member Posted July 25, 2024 Author Posted July 25, 2024 Look at the post I originally responded to for f*** sakes, before you go all half cocked like this. The guy literally said trading Bo and Vlad would make our farm system "powerful". I disagreed. Then you decided to chime in. Yeah trading them would bring some prospects, but it's got a long ways to go before it's a high end system again. Yeah I chimed in about how you were wrong that Vlad is a 1-2 WAR player and you responded with something entirely irrelevant to what I said.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 25, 2024 Posted July 25, 2024 I guess there are other possibilities. A team like the Giants could make a bid for Vlad. Cardinals. One possibility is that the return for Vlad is one MLB piece + prospects. Like, the Giants throw Lamonte Wade into the deal (decent platoon 1B) or the Cardinals make Nootbaar part of the package.

Ok, fair enough. Vlad had 1.3 fWAR last season and has 2 fWAR so far this season, we'll see where he ends up. Hopefully I'm wrong and he continues his pace.

He’s just an angry little guy who has posted a whole lot less frequently once it became impossible to defend Ross Atkins
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2024 Posted July 25, 2024 The Mariners might be the team that would overpay for Vlad, and they have some interesting prospects (Ford, Montes, Emerson, Young). Would be curious to see what they would have offered if Vlad was available.

I even ignored the first one, but keep going if it makes you feel better sweet heart. I love a good laugh.

Trade Vlad to SEA to suppress his numbers and guarantee he won’t re sign there 150 games in Seattle for Vlad .282/.344/.455 with 13 HR’s

Then we can re-sign him when he hits the FA market in 2027!

I guess they could do it Soto - Dominguez - Judge in the OF Stanton DH Rice is the 1B DJLM is just a DFA candidate, eat the contract They could just consider Ben Rice to be a bench piece. Spencer Jones is kind of s***ing the bed in the minors.

Can't see it myself. The Yankees have over $31 Million coming off the books in with just Rizzo and Torres by the time Vlad is a FA. That would cover it.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2024 Posted July 25, 2024 I'd prefer extending Vlad, trading Bo and signing Kim/Adames, Soto and Burnes. WS 2025. If Ross is still here in the off season, he's really going to present Soto with a blank cheque. If so, one of Bo/Vlad will be gone.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2024 Posted July 25, 2024 Lost in the discussion about extending Vlad to a 10 year deal is the fact that Don Mattingly made this discussion possible. The son of a bitch did the unthinkable and fixed Vlad's swing. We have to extend him too while we are at it. It's the haircut. He looks mature know and he probably knows it. Could have clicked the grow up button in his head.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2024 Posted July 25, 2024 It's the haircut. He looks mature know and he probably knows it. Could have clicked the grow up button in his head. Famously immature players with long locks like Andrew McCutchen couldn't make it work so good thing it was the hair that was holding him back. It was all downhill for Manny Ramirez once he grew out his hair in Boston. Jose Reyes really matured for the Blue Jays once he got rid of his.

Blue Jays will be the most expensive .500 or under team in MLB for a long time if that happened. Even the Mets started to build up some prospects and have the means to have a way higher payroll than the Blue Jays. Hopefully Ross isn't here if that's even an option.

I'd say the mets have a higher wilingness to have a higher payroll. Rogers Corp is probably overall the richest "owner" in MLB. Rogers paid out 1 billion in dividends alone in 2023.

Soto is gonna be a Yankee. We’re not gonna sign him. Maybe a tiny chance he is a Met, but most likely a Yankee. He loves playing in NY, he loves the biggest stage. He’s played great there. The Yankees love him and they have the money. He will go through FA just to get his price up but he is not coming here.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 As I think about Vlad positionally, we moved him to 1st because he got fat and couldn't handle any other position. His sprint speed this year is 27.3 this year which is above league avg. His 5 foot splits are above league average too. Is it time to experiment the last two months of the season and let him play more 3rd? Even further outside the box would be should we be throwing him in left field. I know it won't happen, but he's got a cannon for an arm and has enough speed to play in the outfield.
AMS528 Verified Member Posted July 30, 2024 Author Posted July 30, 2024 If he is less bad at either of those then he is a 1B and it encourages him to maintain his fitness it really should be something we try. It really would increase the floor of his value. Right now he's tracking as a 4 WAR player by fWAR and a 5 WAR player by bWAR. I have read some posts that seem convincing that his defense isnt quite as bad as OAA would indicate. But any other position he can play below average does raise the ceiling and floor. His bat to ball skills are so good that last year which I think we can consider a but unlucky is probably the floor.
