Not necessarily, sometimes the save really does happen in the 9th and that should go to your best reliever. I couldn't give a f*** about Romano's mentality.

I don't have an issue with the way they have used the bullpen so far. Yimi should be facing the best hitters on the opposing team given how he's looked so far. He's locked in. We will see if JS pivots his plan and uses Jimi in the 9th inning if the opposing team's best players are up at that point.

If i recall it seemed like he was solid when asked to go 1, but often when he was asked to sit between innings and come back out, he was no bueno.

Many on this board erroneously think a closer should close out 100% of their save opportunities. Even Mo blew nearly 1 in 9 of his opportunities.

So with all that information, this team decided Swanson was ready to go. Dudes been utter trash every outing.

 

It's not like the roster is exactly bursting at the seams with other leverage reliever options at the moment so unfortunately it might be necessary to just deal with Swanson having spring training at the major league level. It's really too bad that Green is out given the fact that Romano and Swanson are still rounding into form.

It's also not like Swanson was awful. He gave up a double, yes, but if he got the first 2 out, then gave up the double and then K'd the next batter to finish the inning, nobody would have batted an eye. He did his job last night.

- got drilled in the foot by a Bobby Witt Jr. 105.7 mph grounder a couple of innings earlier

- in his last inning of work, gave up 4 consecutive scorched balls: 107.4 mph double (400 feet, HR in 25/30 parks), 106 mph HR, 101.9 mph "single" (was an error, but still drilled), and a 105.8 mph double

- his last out was a 97 mph grounder, clearly he was either starting to feel the effects of his foot and/or the Royals had figured him out a third time through the lineup
