Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 Hmm I thought this was an easy W for the Mariners. Ray's contract is terrible. DeScalfani only has 1 year left and Haniger has two. Ray has 3 years and over 70 mil left.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 Looks like they might have another deal in the works?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2024 Author Posted January 5, 2024 Seattle and Tampa now working on a deal involving Luke Raley going to Seattle and Cabalero going back to Tampa. I guess Raley and Haniger can platoon?

Desclafani is maybe a 4 SP, Haniger will probably only get 200 PA and be hurt the rest of the time. Ray still has ace upside. Unless they are about announce a FA pitcher signing the move is puzzling from an on-field standpoint.

RobinThicc Verified Member Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 Ray deal looks like a salary dump.
deanmike Verified Member Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 Mariners are gaining 20.7 BTV surplus value from these 2 trades, crazy.

He wasn't very good in 2022 and then had a lost season in 23. Descalfani is probably worth about 1 year 12 mil so I don't think he's a problem for them. They can just start him at the #5 and keep Woo and Hancock in AAA for depth, can limit their innings, and play with their service time. Haniger sucks and so does his contract but it's a lot better than Ray's and they are so desperate for bats that he helps them too. I have no idea what the Giants are thinking. Seems like they think Ray can bounce back and since they have a hole burning in their pocket they might as well try it?

I believe that apart from the staying on the field issues, the M's believe they will be getting a hitter closer to the Haniger they knew when he was a Mariner.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 They're broke, dumping salary again.

Well Haniger is a righty but yeah they need bats and while the Giants do too they already have plenty of Haniger types.

Well I'm an idiot. For some reason when I was looking for LHB for the Jays I thought Haniger was one. Thanks

Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 Jung Ho Lee now Robbie Ray, pretty fantastic offseason so far. If they get Chapman and a couple starters they can take out the Dodgers. Gj so far Farhan....you got my guy.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 Can't wait to see the assets Getz get back for Cease. Seems like he's in hot demand...Hopefully the Yankees give up Ben Rice or Will Warren. Glad we're not in on him.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 Barry Bonds would like a word Barry probably had a little something to help him. Oracle Park is one of the MLB ballparks where left-handed batters are least likely to hit a home run, according to Statcast. "Some who know Ohtani" see that as a problem for the likelihood of the Los Angeles Angels star signing with the Giants in free agency, according to Heyman.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 Barry Bonds would like a word How many HR's does Bonds hit if he played at new Yankee Stadium his whole career? 1,000+? It's probably not that high, as it's not like Bonds hit a lot of wall scrappers, but Oracle is like death to most lefties.

Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 The white sox GM when he unloads Cease.

When Ohtani hits a bomb, it's usually out, Haniger isn't Ohtani, buddy.

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 Need someone to guestimate the math vs Yankee Stadium There's likely an overlay of that in every park in baseball.
