Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 Jays offense is now 1 run scored behind Atlanta on the season - and we are 2 wRC+ ahead of them. That is insane.

AMS528 Verified Member Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 Probably 50% Vlad lol That's not even a joke really, it's basically true. IKF, Turner and Horwitz are the only other above average batters, IKF and Turner are gone, IKF was injured anyways and Horwitz has only played in 50 games. Their 9th out of 15 teams in the AL offensively, and I gotta think they'd be close to last without him.

Vlad alone has accounted for 96 of these runs or 19.8% of the total. That percentage has been climbing as Vlad's bat has heated up. Vlad turned his season around near the end of April. From April 28 to current Vlad produced 83 of the team's 375 runs (22%). Vlad started launching home runs with regularity in early June. From June 3 to present Vlad has produced 57 of the club's 244 runs (23%).
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 9, 2024 Author Posted August 9, 2024 Joe Ryan left his start today with tricep soreness in his pitching shoulder, after just 33 pitches across two innings. That will be a massive blow to the Twins if he's going to miss time. The Twins received bad news following right-hander Joe Ryan’s MRI, as he’s been diagnosed with a Grade 2 teres major strain that’ll threaten the remainder of his season, manager Rocco Baldelli announced to the Twins beat this morning (X link via Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com). It’s a more serious injury than the Twins initially anticipated, and while Baldelli didn’t entirely rule Ryan out for the remainder of the season, he acknowledged that it’ll take “weeks to months” for the right-hander to recover.
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 Ohtani's home runs are magical. 448'

Now down Ryan and Paddack, what are they left with for starters? Lopez, Ober, SWR, Festa, Varland? Their depth will be tested
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 Wily Adames has been on a tear with his sixth homer since the All-Star break and he's hitting .285 (20-for-70) with 13 runs scored and 12 RBI over 18 games. Looking to cash-in this offseason!
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 Bednar's been garbage this year, another blown save... Woof! Doval for the Giants has been garbage as well. He was just sent down to the minors.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 I know I got attacked last week for listing Jake Burger as a possible 3B trade candidate this upcoming offseason, though Mr. Burger since July 1st has been on a tear with the bat. Since July 1st: .292 BA, 13 HR's, 23 RBI with 165 wRC+ in July and 193 wRC+ in August. 198 wRC+ in the second half thus far. Gotta put up with the streakiness with his bat and poor glove, though as long he produces around 2 WAR with 30 + HR's hitting in the bottom of the order, he's not a bad option given the lack of HR power in this lineup. Probably can be rotated between DH and 3B.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 He's an alright target, but a butcher at 3rd base dude. Woof... Yeah not my first or second choice that's for sure. If the Jays can't sign Chapman or Bregman, and/or failed to add huge thump to other areas in the lineup, he's not a bad target for some cheap power. Doubt the Marlins ask a lot in return anyways. Keep Clement obviously around as well for defensive purposes, and I'm sure they could manage the workloads between both at the hot corner, with Burger getting his AB's between 3B & DH. Again depends on how the offseason plays out.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 Burger isn't a third baseman -23.7 UZR/150 Might as well just put Vlad there and sign a cheap 1B
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 Read that teams were enquiring on Brett Baty at the deadline as well, I wonder if the Jays were among them.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 Jorge Polanco could play defense!
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 River Ryan had to leave yesterdays game with a forearm injury. Yes another Dodger pitcher down. Really like that they're able to develop hard throwers but this is ridiculous. Average 4S velo Ryan 97.1 (35%) Skenes 97.7 (34%) LA is loving KK right now, highlight reel catch yesteday.

Was watching the game last night cuz Skenes was pitching. Yeah LA is a nice fit for KK. Hope he can make a positive impact for them down the stretch and in October! Fits in really nicely as a 4th outfielder there, which what his roll should have been with the Blue Jays this season.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 Why are there a bunch of MLB teams with no games on a Sunday. Especially with no football yet!????
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 Hah, Bednar suxxxxx. I sold high early on this year. He got off to rough stat but nerd stats were same. I made like a 3yr rebuild a 1 year. I may look to offer contract services for rebuilding dynasty teams at this point. May check out advertising costs on some of the sites

Too bad nobody here gives a f*** because its some random league none of us are part of.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 J-Rod tonight, 0-5 with 5 K's, ouch.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 Read that teams were enquiring on Brett Baty at the deadline as well, I wonder if the Jays were among them. Baty would be an interesting target. He's struggled a lot at the ML level, but has a good pedigree and minor league numbers. He's seemingly been passed by Mark Vientos. I wonder what it would take to land him.

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 Congratulations. Too bad nobody here gives a f*** because its some random league none of us are part of. I'm picturing this as a 12 team Yahoo league where he owns all 12 teams. CP making trades and competing against his own teams. And then celebrates at the end of the year when 1 of his 12 teams inevitably win.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 (edited) I thought when the players fail you get rid of the players? Isn't that exactly what the Mets would be doing? LOL Baty is an ideal change of scenery guy. It's probably settling in that he's on the verge of being a bust....the first extended failures in his baseball career. This could make him the ideal target as he should be as motivated as he's ever been to get to work and turn his career around. No guarantees, but depending on the price, he might be a great target.
