We made a bet back in June. He said the Mariners would finish ahead of the Rangers because they suck and I said I'll bet you $20 the Rangers finish ahead of them in the standings which he agreed.

It’s all about the eyeballs. Having all the games on over 2 time slots make people choose 1 game over the other and limits overall viewership.

 

Having 4 different slots brings overall # of eyeballs up.

 

Exactly. The alternative would be to do what the NBA does, which is give every game a prime time spot but have the playoffs last for what feels like 15 years (2+ months). Baseball isn't built like that.
