glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 Winning 2/3 at the Trop in what could have been a sweep? That was a turn I was not expecting.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 Tampa has most of that. More of that than we do. Baltimore has the offense, enough starting pitching for their offense, bullpen has become vulnerable though. Texas has a killer offense, and enough starting pitching, vulnerable in the middle of their bullpen only. Seattle has better pitching, better offense too, not a great offense but a better one. Minnesota has better frontline pitching and the better offense. Everybody has more than Toronto, even though nobody is perfect in the American League. Exactly. The AL has no heavy favourite and every series will essentially be a coin flip. Every team is flawed
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 What an excellent series by the boys. Almost a sweep too. They showed up big time these last couple weeks. Need to go like 3-3 these last 6 games and we should be good.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 Wish I could have watched this one What a game based on the highlights Honestly sometimes better to just see the resulting W rather than rip my hair out over close games
Masterbather Verified Member Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 Exactly. The AL has no heavy favourite and every series will essentially be a coin flip. Every team is flawed I don't see a lot of flaws with Tampa. We got two of their worst pitchers in this series, with a set rotation they pretty much have everything even with their problems. They won't be at their best but they still have enough of everything. We're the most vulnerable team. That's the point. Of course anything is possible in sports, Kansas city just won 10 of their last 11 games including five against Houston, yes anything is possible. Of the potential playoff teams in the American League I still maintain we're the one that most teams would rather face.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 If the Astros lose today, 89 should definitely be the magic number. So yes, two more should do it. Those two might not come easy. King and Cole again for the Yankees. Might take us to the Rays series to do it. I'd like to see some positivity from you once, just once

Masterbather Verified Member Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 I'd like to see some positivity from you once, just once I prefer honesty and realism. This is after all supposed to be a championship caliber team, that was the point right? So it's fair to judge them in this context. This is a flawed team for what is supposed to be championship caliber. More flawed than most playoff teams.

Honesty and realism is just a guise for toxic negativity f***ing blind fans, honestly, and I'm the bullshiter? So when I end up being right about this team, like I was last year, I'm just being negative, others weren't completely wrong and I wasn't right it was just bad luck for the Jays. But if they end up winning, everybody else was correct and I'm just pessimistic. Beautiful position to take. That way you're either Right or unlucky or I'm just lucky or pessimistic. People act like this team has accomplished anything over the past 3 years, it hasn't won a playoff game, it completely s*** its pants in one of the most humiliating playoff defeats I've ever seen. It's supposed to be a championship team right? Wasn't that the goal? So stop with the ********. This team started with people here suggesting this was a world series championship caliber team. f***ing delusional. Sorry to point out the delusion.

They playoffs are a lock. I never said they were eliminated from the postseason, I said they're not in yet because they're not. Are they likely in, yes, can they still f*** it up, yes. Other teams would have to step up also. It would be far from the worst collapse. I don't know why you're jumping the gun, there's still a couple of things that need to happen, it's not like we're 10 games up with 10 games to play.

Masterbather Verified Member Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 they are in, take a load off There are still entirely reasonable scenarios that could see them eliminated. They are probably in, but it's not there yet.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 It's not just your comments on us not officially clinching yet which are bad enough. I'll get to that in a sec. It's you saying that it's "f***ing delusional" and to "stop with the ********" for thinking that a playoff team (read it and weep, this team is going to the playoffs) has a shot to win the WS. Fangraphs like the Braves, the Dodgers and then considers us to have one of the best shots among AL teams despite having to go through the WC round. We've got a chance and you're slamming the door already by saying things like the team "hasn't won a playoff game". Well guess what buddy? The team hasn't even started the playoffs this year so how can you say we haven't even won a playoff game? And the playoffs are easy to make. If we don't win another game we still have a 59% chance to make the playoffs. Win 1 game and it jumps to 90%. 2 games and it's 99%. Win 3 and it's over. The Mariners are too far back and play too many other AL East teams to keep us out. It would, in fact, take the "worst collapse." This according to: http://www.playoffstatus.com/mlb/bluejayswhatif.html. Fangraphs says we have a 98.4% chance of making it.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 I didn't have time to comment during the game, but I saw some uncharacteristic plays from the Rays during this series and especially during this game. -Margot giving up on the play and jogging after Springer's hit certainly allowed him to score. It reminds me of Tapia's one from last year where the fielder did the same thing. - Curtis Mead not hustling on an easy double, getting thrown out while on cruise control. -Harold Ramirez not paying attention and costing a run by not tagging. - Isaac Paredes angrily throwing the ball at the ground after a near collision in the field. Certainly not all is well in paradise. I hope there's some real friction and the sloppy play continues.

This team is exactly where I said they would be at the beginning of the season. I said they were a good team, that was maybe a playoff team, a contender for the third wild card spot. That's exactly where they are. EXACTLY. So I was right so far. I also said they're not a world series contender, I guess they remains to be seen for this year. Funny though I don't see anybody holding up their hands who were convinced this team was going to battle for the division. People who were offended by the very notion of me even suggesting that it was just going to be in the mix for the third wild card spot. None of them are holding up their hands to acknowledge that they were wrong. There is a lot of ******** on this board, but it's not coming from me. So I'll just leave it at that.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 "more flawed than most playoff teams" is a blatant lie and obvious trolling
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 "more flawed than most playoff teams" is a blatant lie and obvious trolling I would direct his attention to the Rangers bullpen (ERA of 5) or the Mariners and Twins lineups (most K's in the league, team average of .240), or the Astros losing 5 games to the Royals if he's looking for flaws.
Masterbather Verified Member Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 "more flawed than most playoff teams" is a blatant lie and obvious trolling Matter of perspective, we obviously disagree. So I guess you're trolling? That's how it works when you disagree with someone right? You accuse them of trolling. Hey what did you predict for this team when the season started? How did you see them finishing in the standings I'm genuinely curious. I don't recall
