G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 So who do we want to keep from the current pen for next year and how many additions do we want? Who still has options?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 So who do we want to keep from the current pen for next year and how many additions do we want? Romano Green Swanson Burr Cabrera off the top of my head.

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 How much will Adames cost and how much cheaper would Kim be? Adames had a MONSTER season at the perfect time. Same age as Kim. He's a better fit, given his power profile. I could see Kim getting like 4-5 years at $20M AAV. I think Adames has played himself into a 6 year deal at $22M-$25M AAV. Adames is a great target but the dropoff in his defensive metrics this season is concerning. He's gone from +8DRS/+16 OAA to -15DRS/+1 OAA. If he's more Bo Bichette defensively moving forward that limits the appeal quite a bit, although he'd likely make be a fine defender at third base as well if he needed to move eventually.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 This is why it's important to try and field a winner. We sucked ass after the 90s championships and the fanbase dwindled down to almost nothing. All it took to build it back up was to make the playoffs a few times in the past ten seasons. We've now got a pretty darn good fanbase. 9th in attendance for a last place team is great.

The Jays are outdrawing the Orioles by almost 5K a game, which is insane given the difference in on-field product. If the Jays had constructed a playoff team, and with all the renovations, I have no doubt they would have been top 5 in attendance this year.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 27, 2024 Posted September 27, 2024 They are definitely on the precipice though. The Blue Jays cultivate a relatively good fan base when they win for a bit, but it can be fleeting. Lose a few seasons in a row and oooof. Per game: 2016, 42k (1st in the AL) 2017, 40k 2018, 29k 2019, 22k (8th in the AL)

Per game: 2016, 42k (1st in the AL) 2017, 40k 2018, 29k 2019, 22k (8th in the AL) The Orioles made up like a 800 thousand fans on the Jays this year. 2023 about 3 million Jays to 1.9 million Orioles 2024 it will be about 2.7 million Jays, 2.3 million Orioles 2025 it could be 2.8 million Orioles low 2s for Jays. We all know Baltimore, projected to be a forever dynasty with 110 wins a year is now a great-great disapoiontment. An 89 win loser team that will be getting swept by KC or Detroit and going home... However what it Orioles somehow luck out and beat KC or Detroit and win a playoff series or 2? What if they make a big signing in the off season? The forever dynasty Orioles team depends on them getting some momentum here, starting to outdraw Jays, and win free agents from them... only KC or Detroit can stop this. They must

Much like 2017 had great attendance due to 2015-16 despite a s***** product. If the Jays have a monster off season then maybe 2025 attendance won’t take a big hit but I would imagine attendance will be down early in the season and either rise or fall based on team performance after that.

Up from nap and before he goes off to his early bird special, before settling in for the night to comfort himself with the talking heads of MSNBC and spending time thinking about his sexual conquests in 1968. Maybe you can get with your new Robin, Spanky, and rally the troops to force me off the board unjustly, like the fantasy leagues.

Yes, the fanbase got re engaged nationally in 2015 because we won the AL East after being in the wilderness since '93. 2016 was also exciting. 21, 22 and 23 we were in the hunt. The late 90s they went from 170 corporate boxes sold to 7. It was depressing. Higher ticket prices matter, but being in the wildcard hunt with a 3rd spot now should keep attendance and eyeballs at solid levels. The renos will help, but that has a shelf life. They have to put a legit competitive team on the field or our history says attendance and viewers wanes pretty quickly.

Have to think a lot of the attendance for this season was tickets sold in the offseason. I’d assume ticket sales drop dramatically this offseason unless they make a huge splash like Soto or something similar.

JFD Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 So the team just completely gave up and packed it in for the final series of the year. If that doesn't indicate a weak coaching staff I don't know what does. I won't be watching another game until they clean house. Springer also needs to f*** off and retire.

The final 3 games between two last place teams where a bunch of rookies and cast off relievers are largely playing indicates a weak coaching staff? I think there's enough of a sample size over the other 159 games to make conclusions without needing to place a ton of emphasis on the final series of the season.

The season was over long ago, this is an assessment situation, not unlike ST. Wins don't matter. In fact, losses actually help the team draft higher. Also, Springer will not retire. I suspect he will report to camp in great shape and then put up a 2.5 fWAR campaign. That's okay. I think he helps the team sign Bregman, which they absolutely should.

A 2.5 WAR season would be a godsend, but I’d take the under.

A 2.5 WAR season would be a godsend, but I’d take the under. I think we all knew the last couple of years of this contract would suck. But, I honestly think his okay arm and offense will still be a good fit in LF. I think he has a good year. Not to mention the "veteran presence" that so many discount. Honestly, if we rebuild the bullpen, extend Vladdy and sign Bregman, we have a fighting chance. How many wins gets a WC spot, 85? I have no idea what happens to Bo.
