There are problems with the FO. Anyone trying to spin it has their head in the sand or up someone's ass.

Bassitt knew what he was saying and 45 minutes of things he can go on about is something.

Great interview.

Laika wears blinders and can't think critically.

Chris Bassitt also said Vladdy should play 75% of the time at 3B and thinks he prefers playing at the hot corner. Said he doubted him playing 3B this season, but that he looked really good. He thinks Vladdy does want to stay here.

Interesting.

Definitely listen to the part when Caleb Joseph speaks. He brings up a lot of great points.

I listened but didn't hear any great points.

Yeah that bit was interesting. Also the bit where he basically said he didn’t understand the Vlad hype until he started his tear this year.

Interesting he seemed iffy in whether Vlad should play more 3rd vs load management and keeping him healthy

As much as I love Bowden Francis, some of you guys need to temper you expectations. He's 28-years-old and has just ONLY put together a string of 3 great starts in row.

Lets see what he does over the final 6 or so weeks. Heading into 2025, ideally he should be competing for one of the final rotation spots during ST.

I honestly don’t care what he meant but for everyone riding Laika’s nut sack it is not far fetched to think Jays PR sat down with him and the next thing you know Shi and Arden from the state broadcaster are “catching up” with Chris Bassitt

I haven't really been following this Bassitt thing but Phil Donahue died a couple days ago. Apparently he got fired by MSNBC for being against the Iraq war in 2003. Broadcasters are leaving news networks all the time from both right and left (Shepard and Tucker Carlson left from Fox from different directions). No idea anymore about Canadian media, but my understanding is the state broadcasting Corporation is controlling the message very well.

So why I ask, is it unreasonable for posters on the esteemed BJMB not to think there is pressure by those who own media on the people who appear on the media shows, to say a message that is positive to the owners of the media?

I don't think it's a question of unreasonable vs. reasonable. It's a question of likely vs. less likely; how people will ignore Occam's Razor because of their preconceptions.

Explanation A: Chris Bassitt meant that certain players on the team have characteristics that are "unfixable"

Explanation B: Chris Bassitt meant that the front office / organization is "unfixable"

Justification for A being more likely:

- player commentary generally speaking is more likely to be related to the team

- players CAN have objectively unfixable characteristics like age, injury history, lack of physical tools. front offices really don't unless you assume a flawed executive cannot be fired.

- Bassitt even says in the interview that he wants to "protect his teammates" -- this makes it seem quite likely that what he would say if being candid would be a criticism of the teammates. I can't see how him saying the front office is bad would harm his teammates.

- it would be extreme for a player in Bassitt's context to call the organization / front office "unfixable." It would be a Milton Bradley on a one year deal soundbite.

However, some people get boners about the idea that the player was slamming the front office that they hate so they see it through a different light (explanation B). The only real contextual information that supports B is that the interview began with a discussion/question that was about front office moves (Ohtani, pivoting, etc.)

So, that's the initial disagreement. A is more likely. The B people accuse the A people of being sheeple, etc.

Luckily this time, the player almost immediately was asked to clarify his statements. It became obvious that A was right.

Now the only chance the B people have is to add on some ad hoc explanation. This is where you can basically throw them in with flat earthers. Oh, your experiment failed? The earth still seems round? Time for some more ********. Now we have this:

Explanation A: Chris Bassitt meant that certain players on the team have characteristics that are "unfixable." He affirmed this in a subsequent interview.

Explanation B: Chris Bassitt meant that the front office / organization is "unfixable." The Jays front office asked their media wing to do damage control. The PR team had a sit down with Bassitt and told him he needed to spin this. Bassitt agreed to spin it and throw specific players under the bus. Two media lackeys flew in and did an interview with Bassitt, with the PR team having already vetted the answers. This was then published. Phew - player criticism of the front office successfully swept under the rug (at least, in the eyes of all the sheeple who do not think critically and wear blinders all the time).

I have been laughing non-stop since this began. It's basically a litmus test for dingleberries.

anybody checked to see if his hitting is any different when at 3b?

sample size in 2024 is meaningless but he has a 1.089 OPS when starting at 3B

True the statistics are weak and could be impacted by more than one variable (an extra bat or enthusiasm for playing a preferred position). But some hitters have produced better depending on things like defensive position or batting order. I usually discount when a guy had to dh due to some injury type problem.

By weak I mean that it is hard to correlate it specifically to one difference. Vladdy beginning of the season compared to Vladdy later looks like two different players.

Impossible to quantify and unlikely to have any sort of tangible impact

I mean during this Barry Bonds stretch he’s played third how many times?

Position really has nothing to do with it, he's just seemed to figure it out, something clicked.

true, I wasn't giving the credit for the big shift in hitting just wondering if he hits slightly better when playing 3b or 1b or even dh. Something else must have caused the difference between early season Vlad and the later part.

It's not really a 'flat earth' kind of thing though... it's a disagreement about human nature. Not really Occam's razor either. Nothing complicated about a Rogers Exec taking Chris Bassitt aside. I guess it's 'a bit' more complicated than a Rogers executive not doing that. But not 'way' more complicated.

Compare to say 9-11 conspiracy which involves hiring fake guys to kill themselves on the planes, then hiring another big crew to put dynamite in the buildings... I assume that is at least a 50 person job, with dynamite trucks having to be there, and dynamite guys going up and down without being noticed through most of summer 2001. Probably years to plan the conspiracy, months to execute.

This is like you guys differ on how people act. One group thinks people are sneaky, and bad, especially the corporates. The other group thinks that is ridiculous. I do admit it is a 'bit' more complicated for the Rogers guy to phone, or take a walk down to Bassitt's locker... but it's not massive complexity. Like not unrealistic complexity.

Right, I am using colourful language.

But it IS less likely. And it's more than just a disagreement about human nature, because explanation B is in fact a weird interpretation of Bassitt's original interview that makes less sense even if you just ignore the whole corporate bad guy ad hoc. So it's a more complex explanation for two reasons. #1 it's a less logical conclusion based on the initial interview (like one of those logic questions where one answer is "more correct" than the others but neither is obviously wrong) and #2 it now requires a Rogers/PR/Media mini-conspiracy.

If a player plays out of position, and struggles, of course it may impact hitting.

I don't think playing 1b, 3b, or dh qualifies as vlad playing out of position.
