Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 100% Bo wants out of Toronto and the Jays should accommodate. Some team will give a good prospect return, banking on 'just needs a change of scenery'.

Laika Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 I think the zero post season wins is more of an overall metric to reflect lack of forward progress. There was no substantive improvement in the overall result or performance of the org YTY since 2020. No AL East champs, not even first WC I don’t believe. Yes it's shorthand for "have never been a great team"
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 I think a lot of that is in the Bold Predictions thread isn't it? I know I said no WC, and Detroit would finish ahead of us or WC3 or something like that. No, not looking for a bold prediction, rather a sober one. Bold predictions are all over the place.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 The Astros prospect capital looks like Atkins was running their team. Who would we want much less get from them?
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 Astros don’t have a lot of interesting prospects so that’s disappointing Welcome to Toronto Spencer Spaghetti and Joey Loperfido
BatFlip Verified Member Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 Astros don’t have a lot of interesting prospects so that’s disappointing Welcome to Toronto Spencer Spaghetti and Joey Loperfido Super disappointing. Plus the scouting report on Spencer Spaghetti says he has a limp noodle bat.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 The Astros prospect capital looks like Atkins was running their team. Who would we want much less get from them? Atkins seems like a guy dumb enough to ask for “your top 2 prospects” for Vladdy and accept whatever team agrees to the offer, regardless of the players
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 The Astros prospect capital looks like Atkins was running their team. Who would we want much less get from them? Start off with Mathews and Baez and or Melton. Maybe someone younger off the MLB roster also. Get them to add Khouba or another SP. Maybe take a younger currently injured SP. I think there are assets that would improve the Team. With the Astros you would probably need to go quantity with upside to hedge.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 They'd have to offer up, Melton/Baez/Matthews and one of Arrighetti or Bloss... not sure the Jays and Stros matchup here on value. Meh... doubt it materializes.

No, no and no on Mathews, Baez and Melton. I would rather extend Vladdy. We need thumpers not pool noodles.

Laika Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 Houston could put together some package of 50 FV and 45 FV players and that should be enough for Vlad. It's sort of sad but it is what it is. Vlad is not going to fetch a very high end prospect. If he does get traded it will be for a bunch of guys exactly like those that make up Houston's top 10.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 Atkins seems like a guy dumb enough to ask for “your top 2 prospects” for Vladdy and accept whatever team agrees to the offer, regardless of the players He traded a year and a half of Stroman (who was performing really well at the time) for Anthony Kay plus an 18 year old pitcher. I’m legit terrified of what he’d get for Vlad and Bo.

Extending Vlad seems the lowest risk move. It's just money and you get a known quantity. Bird in hand kind of thing.

Omar Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 But then jays fans actually have to watch Vlad play baseball for a bunch more years One huge upside is that the guy stays relatively healthy. At least he stays on the field.
Governator Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 I think the worst part of this season is that we are not statistcally great at anything... There is quite literally nothing to build around or be excited about. Not the SP, RP, offense or prospects. I mean.. this team had years of excitement dating back to when Bautista broke out. Even he alone gave us something... Today we have the fewest homeruns in the AL. I guess we are #1 at something.

Im almost certain the low homeruns thing will change overnight with a new coaching staff/front office personnel. Something rotten is going on with the hitting philosophy

Omar Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 agree but who the f*** knows what the Vlad camp thinks his value is for all we know an extension is not even possible I'm pretty sure they see Vladdy in Freddy Freeman territory and will seek $27M AAV as a minimum starting point.

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 I would rather see a legit effort at Soto vs a Vladdy extension. Vlad, or more importantly his agent are going to want an aircraft carrier contract. Vlad is not a legit aircraft carrier. As mentioned, any extension would need to be north of $27m AAV. Why, because he will probably get $25 m in ARB after this season. Trade him for specs and use that money to make the overall team better.
bluejaysinternNo5 Verified Member Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 I guess I could stand to watch Vlad play baseball for 8-10 more years if he gets something like 21 AAV. But he won’t do that. If I have to watch him play for 8-10 more years with a 30 AAV I’ll just go become a Rockies fan instead.

The team needs to add more elite offensive talent, and I think having someone like Soto on the team would be a tremendous asset in helping Vlad to finally reach his ceiling year in and year out. There's a snowball's chance in hell Juan Soto would choose to sign with the Blue Jays anyway though vs Vlad who actually appears to be willing to stay long term.

Something rotten is going on with the hitting philosophy You think Guillermo has bent over and let Donnie Baseball violate his mussy and change everything? Or do you think Guillermo decided on his own to completely overhaul everything that lead to them being the #2 offense in baseball in 2021-2022? I'm fascinated by this thought process.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 f*** me - Juan Soto will never sign in Toronto.

Dude we've been over this, IDK exactly whats happening with the org/coaching staff but SOMETHING happened after 2022 and things changed for the worse. I would not be surprised to see guys like Vlad, Bo, Kirk, Springer, etc start hitting better next year with different people in charge.
