Masterbather Verified Member Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 I'm just happy it's not Springer anymore. It only took 2.5 months. Well they had to be SURE sure.
HomeRunHomer Verified Member Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Also why is Varsho batting 7th?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Why are Varsho's peripherals so garbage? He's bottom 4% in the league for xwOBA. Does all the bunting he does drag down his numbers or something?

Does all the bunting he does drag down his numbers or something? you would have to look at each hit and apply the exit velo, launch angle, sprint speed parameters and see where the poor contact is. He's a dead pull hitter so might be over time the balls that were falling in will be outs

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 Weird year for Berrios. He has been “good” but his K rate down 2 per 9 and a 4.60 FIP. Chewing up IP as usual.

BCZ Verified Member Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 I love how Horwitz is immediately the #2 hitter on a team with more than a $225M payroll. lol
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 41% of season played: - 25th Runs scored - 19th wRC+ - 24th ISO - 26th HRs - 19th ERA & 27th FIP & 24th Pitching WAR - D tops MLB 25 - 3 record when they score 5 runs or more

I'm not sure adding a bat or 2 to spark the offense would be enough to true "fix" the team and make a run.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 Jansen/Kirk to the Phillies for? How long is Realmuto out? If it's for the rest of the season, then Jansen would fit that team perfectly. They are also looking for a CF, so Varsho would probably interest them too, but I doubt the Jays are considering moving anyone controllable through 2025.

Jansen + KK package to the Phillies and we could still “soft compete”
The_DH Verified Member Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 Depending on what we got in return I'd be open to it.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 Jansen + KK package to the Phillies and we could still “soft compete” In return for what/who? Phillies have making noise recently about shopping for an outfielder and I think they want to land Robert Jr. They would deal for Varsho I think. Dombrowski is a cowboy so Atkins may be able to pick his pocket but not for anything impactful this season.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 Jansen + KK package to the Phillies and we could still “soft compete” That all depends on getting major league ready talent in return. It's a massive drop off from Jansen to Serven and that would dramatically reduce the overall strength of the roster.

Obviously the cost for Robert is going to be sky high and would cost them Painter. Aiden Miller, Mick Abel and Justin Crawford look interesting, although Philly probably views Abel as SPing depth and would want to keep him. Aiden Miller or Justin Crawford, plus a lotto ticket for Jansen and KK? This "soft compete" idea could be a thing. I personally think we're already done, but somehow the Jays are still giving the illusion they are in it. Phillies won't give up any real pieces from their MLB roster, but they may not need to. The Jays just need to fool people until September.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 Starlyn Caba Aiden Miller George Klassen Mick Abel's numbers are dogshit this year. Wonder what is going on. Roboumps? In any event he can't be the primary piece in a big trade. I doubt they would move Painter but maybe for Luis Robert. I don't see the appeal in Crawford, 40 raw power. Not super exciting. Decent prospect but... Samuel Aldegheri

Trade Bo too and move Vogelbach to SS. The added defensive responsibility will help get his bat going. Ross has kind of mailed it on the puritanical D first run prevention optimal line ups lately anyway.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 Oakland likely could shop Shae. Jansen and/or Kirk aren't the only catchers available.

Given our upcoming schedule, the other teams would have to try to suck REALLY hard to keep us in this race. I can't actively root against my team, but I do feel that it might be best for our long-term future if we were to be knocked out of the race.

But any hopes for a burn-it-down type fire sale are misplaced. The suits would never authorize a Baltimore style tank job where you play .325 baseball for 4 years trying to nail those top picks. It doesn't make any sense given the Jays also wouldn't get the small market comp picks to really up their bonus pools. It's gonna be constant retooling, swinging trades, hitting on a few international signing and hoping you somehow start developing these picks from 15-20 The real rebuild has to happen in the development system starting with the right philosophy on what tools you want your guys to possess. The parade of "excellent contact, we'll try to teach them power later" is not working
