Masterbather Verified Member Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 3.5 games back with 100 games to go Nobody from KC down to HOU is obviously better than Toronto on paper The playoffs will be easy to make How many aces is Tampa Bay expected to get back later in the season?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 Only way I see the Jays realistically making the playoffs is if they remain close in mid July (like 1-2 back of the WC3), and then go 2015 AA at the deadline. The roster as is ain't it, and even replacing some dead weight with Horowitz and Barger (assuming Atkins remembers they exist) probably won't move the needle that much. They need a big move that adds impact (ex. Luis Robert type).
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 How many aces is Tampa Bay expected to get back later in the season? Zero Shane Baz can't get his stuff back Jack Eflin is back to his Phillies form McLanahan is a September relief option maybe Rasmussen is a four and dive fringe long reliever Joffrey Springs is Joffrey Springs These guys will all have setbacks anyway because the Rays don't care about their players

Not too worried about the Tigers and the Rays seem to have lost their magic from previous years and have a lot of injuries. Twins still are pretty solid and Boston has some solid starting pitching. I think the Royals as well will be in the thick of things still - they were my sleeper AL team this season. Rangers have been banged up but if they get everyone back healthy, they seem like a team that could go on a major run. Would be nice if Atkins added to this core, so the team could go on bit of a run. I don't think keeping the status quo is the answer.

Atkins does need to make some moves to upgrade the MLB roster if the Jays want any chance of jumping ahead of those teams in front of them. If they keep the status quo, they likely stay around .500 for the season.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 Hey - we won a game and got a split today. Team showed a bit of grit. No GDT is a little sad (unless one of the tampon brothers started it, in which case, I won't see it). Are these type of insults allowed on here? I couldn't care and not offended but there was a post the other day from one of the moderators on how certain insults will lead to bans.

That could even be Barger. If you can play Varsho in CF and Schneider at 2nd base regularly, I think you can life with IKF's bat at 3rd and with Springer in RF as he tries to figure things out. It would also really help if we could get 115 wRC+ out of the DH spot, whether that's Turner, Voggy, Horwitz or someone else.
The_DH Verified Member Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 Don't know why they don't give Horwitz some more time in the outfield. LF-RF-2B-1B sounds like a good mix for him

That Brownie guy was crying like a child when I threw an insult back at him one time when he started the whole thing and it got me banned.

I really hate the inconsistencies with this FO. Won't play Horwitz in the OF because I guess he doesn't look good there??? But more than happy to promote Barger and have him play LF which he's never played before.

I could be way wrong as this as my outfield experience is limited to bad softball leagues, but is LF really that different from RF that the skills don't translate easily?

Each position requires reps simply because the balls come off the bat differently. Your muscle memory of also throwing the ball to the bases changes too and isn't something you catch on immediately without some level of practice reps. It was just idiotic to not have Barger play multiple spots that you use him in at the Big Leagues. You killed the kids confidence before he even had a chance to make an impression.
MikeM3 Verified Member Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 That callup was a hot mess. Poor Barger. AAA appears to not even be the same sport this year. Guys are coming up and running like 50% k rates because the stuff down there is so dog s***.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 Horwitz time? Could it be....could this actually be the end for Craig Biggio's son...???

wilko Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 Could it be....could this actually be the end for Craig Biggio's son...??? Someone's gone. Biggio? Clement? Burgers? Possible phantom IL stint?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 Could it be....could this actually be the end for Craig Biggio's son...??? If that's the case, then DeMarlo Hale might have to manage tonight. I don't think JS would be able to hold it together for the first 24 hours after hearing the news. But realistically, I think it's more likely to be the end of Danny Burgers, unless Biggio can be sent down. We shall see.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 Probably going to send down Clement. Biggio has nine lives.
The_DH Verified Member Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 Probably going to send down Clement. Biggio has nine lives. isn't he out of options?
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 isn't he out of options? You're right. I guess it's Vogelbach then.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 Probably going to send down Clement. Biggio has nine lives. Clement is out of options, so don't think it will be him given how Atkins usually looks at depth. Logically it really doesn't make sense to have all of Vlad, Turner, Vogelbach, and Horowitz on the same team, even if Horowitz can cosplay at 2B/LF occasionally. Clement at the very least looks like he can be a competent platoon IF, and Biggio is beloved by the Jays org for reasons I can't really wrap my head around. It will be Vogelbach most likely.

I don't think Clement can stick in MLB. He really looks out of his depth. Can't wait to punt Biggio but he seems to have pictures of Atkins doing unspeakable acts.
