Laika Community Moderator Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 any thought that yesterday's Garcia and Romano appearances may have been advertising? Baltimore could probably use the two of them. Holliday and nothing less would be required. no lol

He used his top two arms in the highest leverage possible, end of story.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 Justin Turner finds himself in a short slump and the board immediately turns on him lol I wonder what it would be like to be friends with you people in real life. Someone gets sick or loses their job and you probably dump your friends at the drop of a hat.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 So Toronto has the lowest average bat speed (bad) BUT ALSO the shortest average swing length (good?) Both metrics are important I would assume. Fast swings that are too long are not necessarily good. Trying to pull up some more charts but the stupid statcast website is struggling. Wouldn’t the size of the bat matter as well? Force = mass x acceleration

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 Wouldn’t the size of the bat matter as well? Force = mass x acceleration I saw I think in fangraphs' comment section that Ohtani has the heaviest bat in the MLB, which kind of adds up as to why he's able to produce so much more power despite a lower avg swing speed and squared up% as Juan Soto who is in a league of his own in those two categories combined.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 Too bad we don't have Otto Lopez to swap in fore Biggio right now. Who would've thought the Marlins of all teams would be the ones to unlock Otto Lopez.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 Who would've thought the Marlins of all teams would be the ones to unlock Otto Lopez. Maybe it's not just limited to Tampa Bay anymore. It's State wide.

He did this to himself bro Basically replacement level through 1/4 of the season I don't care about the up and down or the what have you done for me lately as much as I care about the holistic production which has gone too far south. 2024 blue jays = infinite sadness
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 Fairweather fans. Yep. Only since Doug Ault hit 2 home runs on a snowy day in 1977.

I was the only one who stuck by his side and as soon as he finished his year in jail I picked him up and we went straight to the bar. It really meant a lot to him so I suggest we provide similar support to Justin. He’ll get through this slump like Doug did his, he just needs some support.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 Wouldn’t the size of the bat matter as well? Force = mass x acceleration I heard Tony Gwynn was using something like a sub 20 ounce bat his last years in the league to maintain bat speed.

Still drinking and driving?

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2024 Posted May 15, 2024 any thought that yesterday's Garcia and Romano appearances may have been advertising? Baltimore could probably use the two of them. Holliday and nothing less would be required. A Holliday trade would be the opposite of your usual super star for 5 minor leaguers (1st Juan Soto trade). Probably need 5 major leaguers for Holliday and whatever dead weight Baltimore wants to get rid of to clear roster spots. Gausman, Varsho, Garcia and Romano. I don't know. Never really see a player like Holliday get traded.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2024 Posted May 15, 2024 When does the firesale start? I doubt any time soon. Even if they are clearly out of it I bet they just sell pending FAs

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2024 Posted May 15, 2024 He has been really terrible this season, but what about Jake Burger as a possible trade target from the Marlins? Last season he hit 34 HR's with a .250/.309/.518, 120 wRC+ and a 2.3 fWAR. Granted he's been downright terrible this season. The raw power is there, which is what this lineup needs, just gotta hope he could bounce back to being a 2-3 WAR player.
