Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Barger has lowkey been a disaster He seems like a horrible outfielder right now Nowhere to go but up haha' I'd rather watch him struggle and (most likely) improve than to watch Biggio hoping he might improve which he won't, he is what he is....replacement level bench player.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Barger has lowkey been a disaster He seems like a horrible outfielder right now Yeah I've seen promise offensively in that he hits the ball hard when he connects, but he hasn't walked and his range and reads on defense at both third and the outfield have been beyond horrible. He has a lot to improve defensively, and he needs to hit to make up for it.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Barger has lowkey been a disaster He seems like a horrible outfielder right now His defense has been atrocious. He does not look comfortable at all out there. Is it because he actually sucks at defense or is it because he's got a bit of the deer in the headlights experience going on? Seems like that might be affecting his ABs too. He can hit the ball hard but he's taking some really aggressive hacks out there. I don't mind playing him some more but they should play Schneider full time, bench Biggio and put Barger in a platoon with Clement.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Craig Biggio's son getting roasted.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Craig Biggio's son getting roasted. It's nice to finally get some vindication. I fought the Biggio Fanboys for YEARS and now the board consensus is that he sucks. I know the jerks on this board aren't big on apologies but I feel like I deserve a few.

Still so early, it's possible he has just been nervous or something. Only a few games and one play that OAA says he should have made. But he seems like a f***ing LIABILITY out there

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 But every time you do this he hits a homer Stop gloating and let him wilt away... That is true. I believe the great Orgfiller said it best that no one plays better than Biggio does when he's on the verge of losing his spot in the lineup.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 I agree with this. Although if you look at the some of the numbers so far (team ERA,FIP, xFIP) our pitching has been far from elite. Luck & D has helped them. Kooch and Berrios over performing and Hound, Gausman under performing. Yariel has come down to earth but still positive. Aside from Yimi so far, the pen has been like a box of chocolates. Never know what you're gonna get. Green health concerns me. Swanson had some V backlast night. Good sign to help set up his split. Bo, Vlad and Springer will have positive regression, At the same time JT won't have a 165 wRC+ all season. Same for Varsho. Schneider is just an exciting player and fun to watch. The ebbs and flows of baseball, lol.

I can't believe you've done this. He's gonna evolve into Joe Morgan when Orelvis is called up in less than a month.

This is all nonsense I say, you guys are losing it. .....then quietly proceeds to pick Biggio for the home run contest tonight and hope nobody notices. Edited April 30, 2024 by Omar

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 wrong, that is not the board consensus. the board consensus is he is a good bench guy that can play all over the diamond, that is miscast as a primary starter Well Jim it looks like I've got some more work to do then
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Manoah is going to walk 5 tonight and be deemed ready for the big leagues.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Manoah is going to walk 5 tonight and be deemed ready for the big leagues. I hope not. He looks nowhere near ready. He needs to throw multiple games without walking 4+.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 FG base runs has the jays being the 4th worst team in baseball so far. With the run prevention showing they’ve actually really been lucky so far. I think I’d have to agree as the pitching really seems to have struggled with only kikuchi and Garcia having greater than expected seasons. Berrios has been fine but the numbers def show he’s been lucky. Gauseman still doesn’t seem right and Bassit has been pretty meh. The bulllpen has been super inconsistent, where it seems like guys just don’t have it some nights and really implode.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Holy s*** I don't to see Manoah again any time soon
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 I think we are okay. 3 off days in the next 10 days after not having one for ~2 weeks will help. Yariel is probably nicked up but with all the off days coming up this IL stint is likely IP management as much as anything. I don't think he or Francis are injured that bad and both seem to be decent enough bulk pitcher guys who should be back soon. I suppose the team might thrust Manoah into the rotation but they wouldn't necessarily have to.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Well Jim it looks like I've got some more work to do then I can't recall so much negative energy being expelled towards a utility player in my time on this board. Biggio is a guy who needs to earn his playing time by producing results, and when he's going well at the plate he can become a starter during the duration of the "hot" streak, and when he's struggling at the plate he can have his playing time reduced and only be used in favorable matchups. It's really odd to see so much complaining about the guy this season when he's helped the team win with 0.5 FWAR in the first month of the season and still sits at 110 wRC+. He's a notorious slow starter as his career has seen an average 67 wRC+ for his career in the first month of the season so it's good he's managed to keep his head above water up to this point.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Bowden Francis > Manoah right now. 100% I use Francis and either Cabrera or Richards to give me 5-6 innings over calling Manoah up
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 so you're not a lawyer, not an engineer, not a statistician? no credentials? lol
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Adam Macko just turned 23 and is running a 3.20 FIP in AA. Call him up Mariners-style. He's ready.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Manoah looks like he lost some weight. I guess that's a good start for the slob.
