Pearson making it hard to option him to AAA when Swanson and Romano get activated???

Yeah, not an entirely obvious answer. Which 2 relievers are you dropping when Swanson and Romano get back. Nate's performance today isn't making this an easy decision.

Nice position to be in:

You have one more really good reliever than you have room to carry rn

Bullpen should be REALLY good

Probably guys with option. Cabrera probably and also Francis. Bowden wants to start but he just got bumped for Rodriguez and is in a piggy back. Can send him to AAA for a couple starts until someone gets hurt. Or if White keeps getting his tits lit piggy backing with Rodriguez then DFA him and bring Bowden back.

Yeah. The more I think about it I really don't want them to do send Pearson down. I feel he deserves to stay. If he didn't have any options remaining you would just accept he's staying without debate.

I find that highly unlikely. White likely gets designated and one of the LHP's optioned.

Francis + either Cabrera or Mayza. Mayza if they think he's still not quite right.

Maybe an IL stint for Mayza.

That's what I'm thinking too. He doesn't seem right.

I'm worried about Gausman too but hopeful it's just a time/buildup thing.

BoSox should have paid Mookie. The player is an absolute Boss. #HOF career without a doubt.

Watching LAD & SDP play each other is star gazing.

I don't really care about that in a rehab start.

You care, you definitely care. It’s called denial…

Saw a Chris Black X post this am about Berrios expected stats. Bottom line is he has been very good but also very lucky. Hard hit balls right at people and good D.

xERA - 4.52

ERA - 1.05

FIP - 3.68 (same as xFIP)

0.5 WAR

I was a bit worried about Pearson's velocity this year but his inning yesterday got rid of those worries. 102mph tied the highest peak velo of his career and his sitting velo was one of the best of his career.

Kind of what he's always been. He's not suddenly going to become a different pitcher then he has been. He's a good, consistent and very reliable starter. He's capable of some really good starts and streaks. He's not a true ace nor is he a true two on a championship team, but he's an extremely solid piece to have in the rotation and he'll get you innings year after year. As consistent as you'll get.

Totally agree. 2022 was an anomaly of putridness for Berrios. He is a 2-3 in a strong rotation. He isn't an elite ace but they are unicorns anyway.

The guy has the equivalent of 6 200+ IP seasons in his career already. Durable as hell so far. His career FIP & ERA are equal.

He is getting LHH out this year so much better. Thats the big key for him.

His last 2 starts have been better than first 2 on expected stats, which is a good trend.

It's still nice to see a settled-in veteran like Berrios evolve.

Looks like he has upped his two-seamer usage significantly this year. That's why you see the GB% much higher than ever. Probably picked up the pitch from Bassitt, or realized through Bassitt the modern ways that a two-seamer can be sneaky good.

It's really the first major pitch mix development of Berrios' career.

He has also added a cutter this year. Only thrown in 12 times, but maybe it's good enough to surprise people once or twice a game and get some weak contact.

Berrios is a stud. It seems Bassitt is rubbing off on him. He's throwing a few more different pitches this year.

Anyone checked on Joey Votto? Is the guy still alive or what?

f*** me, you just now the guy is going to rake this year. Let's get started already.

They made the ankle injury seem day to day and here we are like a month later lol.

Really?

Problem?

Im just surprised that anybody thinks that Votto is going to "rake" when he's proven himself to be pretty useless with the bat for the past 2 years. Plus he's now 40 years old

Oh, he's gonna rake alright.

Dead cat bounce incoming.

He already had it. How many do you get?

Votto's dead cat bounce was 2021. I mean I'd rather have him in the Vogelbach role than Vogelbach, but expecting anything significant from Joey at this point is wishful thinking.

I'm more curious what they do with Horowitz. It's not like this FO has been prioritizing power over the last couple of years, and his offensive skill set is basically the prototype for what the 2023-present Jays seem to value (contact, low strike outs). I feel like he'd be above Votto on the depth chart at this point, but who knows. Maybe he's trade bait, although with Vlad being a legitimate question mark when it comes to tender/non tender this winter, they might hold on to him for that reason.
