Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Jays still need a bat. Preferably an Outfielder. Paul DeJong is certainly a much better player than Espinal atleast. Defensively could play 2B when Bo is back against Lefties.

Career wise he's generally stronger against RHP. This is a nice improvement on Espinal who's really fallen backwards defensively. I'd like to see one more bat come in as well.

DeJong is a good Shortstop for sure we probably upgraded defensively to be honest but missing Bo’s bat for any period of time sucks. DeJong does have some pop though so maybe he can smack out a few more in AL East bandboxes.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 (edited) Well the amount of money justifies the prospect return a little more. But still crazy for Mets who can flex their financial muscle. Verlander got his money and goes back to a place he’s won and probably didn’t want to leave to begin with. Edited August 1, 2023 by Jonn

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 D-Backs trade Chafin to the Brewers. That's a bit odd.

MikeM3 Verified Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Orioles postured like they don't want to trade any prospects but the reality is they kind of have to.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Author Posted August 1, 2023 I'm pretty impressed with Cohen. A lot of big spending owners would draw the line when it comes to spending like this to stock up the farm system. They'll probably just turn around and make a bunch of signings again this offseason.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Orioles postured like they don't want to trade any prospects but the reality is they kind of have to. They are going to need trade some of those infield prospects eventually. Only so many spots. They could trade multiple good prospects and still have a top 5 farm. White Sox should hold out for as much as possible.

tossingthiscoin Verified Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Are we getting any more bats? I don't want to see Teo's name for the trade though.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Apparently the Marlins are getting Burger from the White Sox. Highly anticipating the return. Edit: Jake Eder is piece one.

You never punt an opportunity to win with the assumption that you will have a large window because s*** happens fast in baseball, things change, especially when you live in the American League East. They don't even have to trade their top prospects to make an impact today. They're f***ing fools if they stick with this rotation because they have a chance.

Also, it can be anticipated trades will still be coming in up until 30 mins after the deadline (the announcement part of it).

Well, they chose not to spend money in the offseason and it was basically the same decision because everybody and their grandma could tell their core was looking good and they were primed to be competitive. So I would not be shocked if they cheap out and stand pat.
