Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Wow. So Bo is 100% done for the year, pretty much confirmed. Nice to have someone like DeJong with some pedigree to replace him everyday in the lineup. Scared of what we gave up… It doesn't mean that. Regardless, we needed an IF upgrade from Biggio and I would argue Espinal. This serves two purposes.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 There has to be more to that deal.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 This doesn't mean Bo is done. He provides a level of depth and defense off the bench and an option against lefties if/when Bo comes back
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 There has to be more to that deal. Why??
tossingthiscoin Verified Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 I think we acquired DeJong for a good deal. Unlike Hicks trade, we didn't give up many prospects.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Bo could be out for a month and it would obviously still make sense to do whatever is possible to retain a wildcard spot until he’s back.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Who?? 24 year old RHP reliever playing in A+, taken in the 13th round in 2021 for $50,000
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Jon Morosi @jonmorosi Full trade, per sources: Jays get Paul DeJong and cash. Cardinals get Matt Svanson. @MLBNetwork @MLB Wow... love it.

tossingthiscoin Verified Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 In the beginning, I thought we traded away Eric Swanson.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 In the beginning, I thought we traded away Eric Swanson. Matt Svanson - Eric Swanson? I hope you don't have any ex-girlfriends with a name even within the same universe of your current girlfriend. I could see you getting in a lot of trouble.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Wat? Just my gut feeling. Would be glad to be wrong though
MunenoriKawasakiMVP Verified Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Teo for this team's vibe just makes way too much sense. Probably boosts Vlad Jr's mojo too. If you can get France for cheap I'd do it too.
Delgalladay Verified Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Would reacquiring Teo make it look like Atkins made a mistake trading both of our corner outfielders in the first place?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 There has to be more to that deal. Wow How can there not be?? They wanted his contract gone that bad??

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Would reacquiring Teo make it look like Atkins made a mistake trading both of our corner outfielders in the first place? While I totally think it was a mistake on our end trading both because we've needed a platoon guy with Varsho/Belt all year. However, this will look much worse for Seattle since they're gonna get less in return for the 2 transactions lol.
MunenoriKawasakiMVP Verified Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Would reacquiring Teo make it look like Atkins made a mistake trading both of our corner outfielders in the first place? Maybe. But we lost last year because of our s*** defense and our shaky pen. We fixed both greatly but maybe overcompensated on our power bats and banked on a Vlad Jr breakout (who is still way too fat and lacks flexibility to be a true elite hitter imo) and Varsho being a good hitter.

MunenoriKawasakiMVP Verified Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 France wouldn't be cheap. Teo would be cheaper. France has had a dogshit year and has two more late years of arb. He wouldn't be terribly expensive. I don't think he is a target now that we have landed DeJong though.

I don't think he is a target now that we have landed DeJong though. France is not a FA until 2026 vs Teo who is in 2 months. France has a very solid track record and will emerge from his slump. He actually already has, his SLG% numbers are just still low.. He would be much more expensive than Teo IMO.

Wait, you are saying that a dude who can pull off the splits at first base isn't flexible enough to be an elite hitter? I've seen some really weird takes but that one takes the cake.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Let's just get Teo back just with the MOJO that Vladdy and Springer need. Clearly they're missing one of their buddies loll
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 France wouldn't be cheap. Teo would be cheaper. Jay's aren't getting France, he's redundant on this roster.
