So I read that Ryu is only topping out at 87 right now. He needs to get that up to 89 or so to be effective.

They literally said on the broadcast yesterday that he was sitting 87-89 and touched 90 a couple times

Stroman has a 21 million dollar player option for 2024… probably as close to a guarantee as possible he turns that down right?

I was thinking the opposite. He takes it and bets on himself doing just as good again and get a similar contract after that, which he would get after this season

Gotcha, well then there are conflicting reports but if true that's good.

I don't see any scenario (short of a major injury) where Stroman picks up that option. He's in line for probably the biggest payday of his career right now and he's what, 32, now? Every year older he (or anyone) gets, the chances of a lucrative long-term deal start dropping drastically.

I Think we need to play wait and see before we even think of going after Stroman. Give Manoah 2 more starts to see if he's really back to his 2022 self. Tomorrow will be a big test for him with a dangerous SD lineup. If he proves himself over the next few starts, I think Stroman is off the table with Ryu also coming back very soon. I think our main target needs to be a power bat, even if its a bench piece like Nelson Cruz. I don't see us making any major moves at the deadline except for maybe a rental BP arm or Power bat.

Ya I doubt Stroman takes his option coming off what will likely be the best season of his career. Perfect time to get paid.

Zero shot he picks up his option unless he blows out his arm.

Hes prime for a contract in the 3 years and 90m range.

We are so lucky to have Gausman at the price we got him at. He would easily be getting over $30 million + in this market.

Actually Berrios with his bounce back is also considered quite the bargain at this point. If he can just float around his current performance for the next few years. Jays will get surplus value on that contract.

Yeah as mentioned, barring injury, Stroman is definitely opting out, which is probably another reason the Jays wouldn't acquire him even if they didn't have bad blood from the past. Whichever team trades for him has to be OK with him either opting out or picking up his option, and as much as Atkins enjoys giving $20m AAV's to starters, I'm not sure he'd want to risk something like that for 2024 since the only way Stroman opts in is if he gets hurt.

Stro played free agency perfectly a couple of years ago. Signed for low years/higher AAV, and now can opt out and get the security in his final big contract coming off one of his best seasons. A pitcher taking that risk in his 30's is ballsy, but so far it looks like he made the right decision.

Every GM in baseball would kill to have Kevin Gausman on this contract

And yeah the Berrios and Bassit deals look reasonable

Kikuchi harder to say...

It's not easy to assemble an entire starting rotation by trade and free agency and not kill the budget but they pretty much did just that

But damn would it be nice to see some guys coming up through the system that can stick as high quality starters

I think Kikuchi has value around the league. He's had HR issues, but everything else has been excellent and he's very healthy. One more year at 12 is peanuts.

So the Cubs will take him the in Stroman deal, nice!

They surely would, but I don't think that really makes sense for either club.

Really can't see Kikuchi having any value.

He's no longer looking like a bad contract but still a far cry from an asset

Yeah, it's more a push than anything.

Angels have to be selling Ohtani, right? No Trout, no Drury, they're f***ed.

They absolutely should

I also said the Pats should’ve moved Bedard. Insane not to

Arte Moreno is going to make sure they keep Ohtani and lose him for nothing at the end of the season.

When you're so scared of the backlash that would come from trading an icon than you let your return for him dwindle to a draft pick. And miss the chance to trade him for a haul that could have helped your team 10 times more.

I think there's even more added difficulty when you factor in the backlash from Angels fans that would miss out on Ohtani chasing 60 HR's.

There’s going to be backlash regardless of when he leaves, the only decision Morono needs to make is whether he gets something back to offset that backlash or not. It’s the most no brainer move in MLB right now.

It’s not really possible to win the trade either, you’ll never get an Ohtani back in the trade, but the right trade might get you 3-4 guys that could build around.

Feels like the best case for the Angels is a bidding war between the Rangers and Dodgers. Doubt Moreno ends up trading him though

Moreno already stated he wasn't going to trade him to the Dodgers.

It would be incredible to see Ohtani traded. I really want to see what the haul would be in return.

Similar to Soto but a little less probably. Doubt he gets traded though

Just curious what kind of Value Kirk might have and if he would be an option at the deadline if the price is right.

oof. would be selling way low on him.
