It's just an interesting line of thought. A comparable might be 1B being moved 15 feet further into the OF, leading to Kirk regularly getting thrown out at 1B on his liners to the OF and the end of his career. Would he have a legal case?

Yeah I thought they would’ve made the move a couple starts ago, but something definitely has to be done now. At this point you’re just completely destroying any remaining confidence Manoah had and punting every 5th game. Get someone like Francis or Pearson in there for a few starts, get Manoah working on things in the minors and get him back up here in a month or two.

In 2000 Doc was having a season like Manoah except worse (10.x ERA), lot's of walks, screwed the Jays in what was a weak AL East, lost them Michael Young when they had to trade him for help, then he was sent down to Syracuse and was bad there too 5.x ERA.

 

Then it was spring of 2001 he was sent down to A+ in Spring Training. In that context it wasn't as controversial, just keep him in Dunedin and have him work on things in the nice weather to some extent. Though they did move him up 1 level at a time.

 

However with Manoah now does it make sense to have him in Buffalo? travelling on buses and eating at the Denny's in Columbus Ohio? Kind of would make sense at this point to go to Dunedin and work in a nice environment closer to his home... I guess on the other hand Dunedin is now a level lower, so may not be enough of a challenge even to Manoah... A+ is Vancouver now.

Put him on the 15 day IL, send him to the Dunedin complex to work with the dietician, conditioning, and with weighted balls, then start him in Low A, and work from there based on performance and underlying metrics (K/9, BB/9, Velo, Spin, etc) to earn promotions up each level.

Yeah I would be tempted to do something similar. I dunno about the conditioning and weighted ball stuff - that is offseason work.

These struggles have the team battling for a wild card spot rather than challenging for the division. I'd sure as s*** prefer to see Manoah continuing to dominate and acting cocky/aggressive on the mound at the same time.

Bro, he wasn’t going to break down things on his own. Someone needed to tell him he wasn’t ok and he wasn’t going to just keep going out there and battling. Something needed to change.

 

I like Manoah but he’s just not the same pitcher without that slider. He needed an ego check. I’m confident he’ll come back better

 

When he’s good again, I have no problem with him being an alpha.

One thing people haven’t pointed out is that he will likely be hanging around Ryu and Chad Green rehabbing at the Florida complex, that could be helpful for him to be around some big league guys. He and Ryu were good buds in his rookie year IIRC.
