Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 Well that was a truly embarrassing last couple innings there.
Floortom Verified Member Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 Varsho was an automatic out there..it was almost unfair to let him bat. I probably would have pinch hit for him
Masterbather Verified Member Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 Just garbage all around. We deserve to be in last place. Indeed, the flaws that were obvious about this team to those without rose tinted glasses are coming home to roost , especially against the AL East.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 Runner on 2nd with no outs in the last two innings and we couldn’t even move him to third KK did absolutely everything he could to try and get us a win. Bo was absolutely awful in the 9th there. Lets the good pitch go, swings at borderline fastball, strikes out on a curve way out of the zone. He NEEDED to make contact there
Steeljays Verified Member Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 The move in the 9th was to walk to have the double play in order. Again, Mattingly will be manager soon
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 Couldn't imagine a worse loss if I tried. -We finally get a good start out of Manoah and score some runs. -Romano gives up a 3 run bomb to a scrub. -Then we get a runner on second and no outs and the middle of the lineup doesn't do anything. -Then a misplay in the top of the 10th to give them a run. -The side strikes out in the bottom of the 10th to end the game. Throw in Schneider not understanding how the mound visit rules work and Manoah running his mouth again and this team is just awful to watch.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted May 20, 2023 Author Posted May 20, 2023 This team would get shut out in slow pitch softball
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 This was a gut wrenching defeat. Pulling a loss out of the jaws of victory.
EdwinsParrot Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 What a disaster that turned into. This team tough to watch all around.
travisinfla Verified Member Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 What's the bullpen solution here. Is Romano choking because of overuse, or is he just not an elite closer. I suppose the same for Swanson of late. Or is it just part of ups and downs of baseball season.

I suppose the same for Swanson of late. Or is it just part of ups and downs of baseball season. Ups and downs. Romano has it on days, other days he doesn't. He didn't today. Fastball velo down (even though he rested for 2 days?) and sliders were being left over the plate. That happens. Problem is he isn't a true closer material because when he doesn't have his A-game, s*** will get knocked in. Someone like Bautista, even if he doesn't have it (like today), he is so overpowering that it rarely makes a dent. Our offense not scoring is f***ing stupid at this point. Manufacture runs like a f***ing good team if offense is cold.

Also I think Romano isn’t a great option to come into a situation with runners on base because he has the tendency to hang a slider every so often. But he’s your best guy so I guess it makes sense to bring him in there, but Swanson didn’t really look bad
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 It’s starting to feel like we traded Gurriel and a top 5 prospect for Bradley Zimmer Lol damn I guess you could make that argument based on the current stats
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 TBH, this game was cursed from the start with LTBF creating a GDT on the wrong day
goldbug103 Verified Member Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 Baltimore >>> Jays on a much lower payroll. Division basement is where we’ll be for years, hope it’s not true.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 Desperation move by Schneider to even go to Romano in that situation. The Manager, players, everyone trying to push things instead of just going about business like usual and playing like normal Swanson has been coughing up his own share of homers lately so I can understand the reasoning behind it.

I would like to know the affects of that. I know pinch hitters, for example, can expect to hit worse simply from the act of pinch hitting. I wonder if relievers do better with clean innings.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted May 20, 2023 Author Posted May 20, 2023 TBH, this game was cursed from the start with LTBF creating a GDT on the wrong day Manoah pitched good enough though lol...the rest was an utter embarrassment
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 (edited) It’s starting to feel like we traded Gurriel and a top 5 prospect for Bradley Zimmer If this is all you can get out of these losses you are totally lost dude. It is about fnnnn RUN PREVENTION. We scored 5 runs today and the other team scored more. Even if we would have scored 5 runs last night, the other team scored more. Teams can't be reasonably expected to score 6 runs per game just to tie it. Varsho and KK have been instrumental in saving runs and pitching staffs.. Throwing guys out at 2b, home plate, cutting the ball off so a double turns into a single. Hitting the cut off man so that the runner from 1st doesn't take 2b etc, etc.. Varhso is in a slump but that is not the reason the team is losing. If we were losing 1-0, 2-0 then it is a conversation about the offense. 6 runs last night, 6 runs today, blown saves, holds, not able to keep it tied/close late.... That is the issue!! The situational bullpen use has also been questionable. Doesn't help when your SP doesn't go 5 yesterday and today the SP only goes 5 and 2/3s or whatever because the manager got him removed when they didn't want to yet.. If all you see in these losses is the assessment of a trade on May 20th, of a 162 game season with a player we have 4 years of control, you are smoking the wrong crack.. John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 Baltimore >>> Jays on a much lower payroll. Division basement is where we’ll be for years, hope it’s not true. That’s what it took for Baltimore to be good. You willing to watch .290 - .463 baseball for 5 years straight in order to maybe get lucky and draft a few studs that all might come up at the same time? I doubt it.
Jays333 Verified Member Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 Springer got some hits and Manoah looks a lot better is a couple positives to take away. Not a fan of the the chirping when your sucking overall for the season though. If he is top 5 in Cy Young chirp whoever the f*** you want lol. Losses like that draining though jesus
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
