Richards was an interesting pitcher for us.

Every year he'd go on one of those runs where he would be a 3 inning pitcher and would look pretty unhittable. Then toward the end of the year he would completely suck.

I could see the Jays signing him after Urethra gets blown up tonight.

Busy couple of days for former Jays:

  • Genesis Cabrera DFA'd by Mets
  • Pillar DFA'd by Rangers
  • Craig's son optioned by KC
  • Reese McGuire will be knocking balls around Chicago as he was selected by the Cubs

Pearson and Merryweather continue to struggle for the Cubs this year...I feel bad for Big Nate.

Getting non zero assets like Pinango and Fisher for guys like Pearson and Biggio have been lowkey massive wins for the FO. Fisher already projects better than Pearson, and the Pitching+ models are big fans. Pinango has been crushing AA at 23 with good power and K/BB numbers.

We also fleeced the Mariners twice. We got RJ Schreck for Justin Turner and then got Clase for Yimi.

I think some of the other lower level guys are doing pretty well too.

Looks like Gabriel Moreno is starting to fulfill some of that top prospect potential now. 2.1 WAR in 47 games. Lining up to be a big year for him. Most of the value seems to be from his defense, although he's hitting solidly as well.

Yeah I noticed the other day that Moreno got hot and ran into some XBH's.  Him and Kirk continue to produce eerily similar numbers (112 wRC+ for Moreno, 111 for Kirk now).

You won't find one baseball fan outside Seattle lamenting that the Jays picked Gausman over Robbie Ray in free agency, but nevertheless it's nice to see the latter starting to return to a shade of the form we saw from the 2021 Cy Young winner. Now two years removed from his TJS and in a different team, he's once again pitching like a top of the rotation arm in San Francisco, with the Giants well in the race for the NLW and WC.

Spooner Horwitz is on fire and the Jays just traded for a limp bat only player at the deadline.

Worth monitoring

Pirates moved Ortiz to Cleveland and now he's in that gambling debacle. Wild how all these moves have elapsed so far, mostly injury time for Gimenez and Horwitz

At the risk of waking a sleeping giant right before we face him, I'm going to point out that Teo hasn't been very good this year (77 wRC+ since May 1st and just 0.3 WAR for the season) and is on his way to replicating 2023. Everybody and their brother wanted Teo back here this offseason, but perhaps he is in fact declining and our FO may have been onto something.

Don't get me wrong - I LOVE Teo and will always root for him, but his profile didn't seem like one that would age well and I never really bought the talk that 2023 was a down year because he played in Seattle where he can't see.

It's been said a bunch but one thing Atkins seems awfully good at is knowing when to let someone go

He's been right over 90% of the time easily .

3/5 with 2 HRs and a double yesterday. Literally right on time.
