Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Yes, loved him when with the Marlins

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Author Posted January 10, 2023 Would you like to share more details here? Acquired from the Pirates. Was part of the Marlin’s stable. I really like this move and think he has a good chance to start this year and be a solid 5/6 SP.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Author Posted January 10, 2023 For who? OF Chavez Young
The Iceman Verified Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 I think I like him more than Mitch White....can anyone tell me different?
AMS528 Verified Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Damn he sucked last year after being decent the year before. His numbers are bad everywhere except I guess his fastball spin rate?
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Author Posted January 10, 2023 I think I like him more than Mitch White....can anyone tell me different? I agree. He has showed some really good stuff. I think he had a 12K start IIR..
The Iceman Verified Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 OF Chavez Young 20 SBs with 1-CS in Buffalo last season. Switch hitting CF with a decent on-base % ain't nothing.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 I agree. He has showed some really good stuff. I think he had a 12K start IIR.. He’s probably on waivers in bbdl. You should pick him up and bolster your rotation
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Author Posted January 10, 2023 Anyone who said Pete Walker can fix Ray, Stripling and Mitch White etc. I think there is a better base to work with here then White and Strip at the time.
MikeM3 Verified Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Carlos get a grip. Thompson is a shitbag with a decent curve that he started spamming later in the year. Kikuchi can throw middle middle fastballs and get whiffs. He's the answer if we can get him to hit the plate.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Thompson is appealing because he has options. Allows the Jays to have depth in Buffalo with MLB experience. He's 29 already and if he needs to be called up to make 10-15 starts during the season because of an injury, won't hurt the Jays at all.
The Iceman Verified Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 only pitched more than 6 innings once in 3 career MLB starts. So a 5 inning and bail guy. Upgrade on Hutchinson and Lawrence. Has options so hopefully no more Trent Thornton spot starts.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Love the trade but Thompson is behind Kikuchi and White.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Solid depth with options to have in Buffalo.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Jays SP depth chart right now: Gausman Manoah Bassitt Berrios Kikuchi -------- White Thompson Tiedemann Hutch Lawrence
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Yeah I wouldn't put Thompson ahead of Kikuchi/White. Since he has options it's clear this was a depth move, and the Jays did need AAA SP depth to avoid Hutchison/Lawrence throwing MLB innings next season. If Thompson can get his 2021 form back, then great, but stash him in AAA until a need arises.

Unless the Jays bring in another arm or someone like White has a surreal ST. Both are ahead of Thompson for sure, so if the Jays rotation is healthy for the most part, Thompson likely won't see much time up at the MLB level, especially if the Jays sign another SP.
RotatorCuff Verified Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/2542106 and they release Junior Fernandez to add him to the 40 man, seems odd.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Jays SP depth chart right now: Gausman Manoah Bassitt Berrios Kikuchi -------- White Thompson Tiedemann Hutch Lawrence Where's Zulu and Francis?

Haha 20 starts would be pushing it agreed. I could see the most being 10ish if the Jays don't bring in another starter. Otherwise if they do bring in another starter, he likely doesn't see much time up in the Majors at all since Kikuchi and White would be ahead of him.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Solid depth move, but options probably push him to Buffalo to start the year, unless we run into injuries before opening day. It's always preferable to have a guy who has enjoyed some level of MLB success compared to having to roll out complete shitballers when forced to use your depth.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Where's Zulu and Francis? Zulu would be an awesome weapon out of the pen later on I think. Forgot about Francis. Overall, love the Jays SP depth right now.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Really building up some quality depth across the board for this year.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Really building up some quality depth across the board for this year. Yup, I'm glad Atkins and Co. realized and addressed depth this offseason after what happened last season. You can't waste ABs and innings on scrubs who hurt you more than help. Blue Jays now have some quality depth across the board. They're built very well for the 162 game season, a lot better than they were last year at this time.
Ray Verified Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Jays SP depth chart right now: Gausman Manoah Bassitt Berrios Kikuchi -------- White Thompson Tiedemann Hutch Lawrence Missing Bowden Francis who is pitching incredibly well in the Venezuelan league, Thomas Hatch, and Yosver Zulueta. Then you have some wildcards in Hayden Juenger, Trent Palmer, Sem Robberse, Jimmy Robbins who would have to knock the door down to earn a 40-man spot, but all of them are probably going to be in AAA to start the season. Not many rotations have someone the calibre of Berrios slotted in their #4, so I really like that. Decent depth behind that.

This team is a few wins better no doubt.
