Sportskeeda was saying the Jays might be out, too expensive. Talking about other landing areas for him. I saw the article a little while ago.

Pretty surprised they aren’t just throwing him piles of cash after missing out on Ohtani. Its obviously the more sensible decision to bow out but I thought Atkins would be adamant on making a big splash.

Maybe Yelich and Adames could be a big trade to get the casuals hyped up

Casuals would absolutely hate Adames as he doesn't hit for a high enough batting average. He's basically the short stop version of Varsho.

Brewers will ask Tidermann or Manoah or both with other assets for Yelich and retain % of his salary. Will be a huge mistake to trade Manoah or Tidermann for a guy like Yelich. Better rebuild now, anyway we can't beat the Dodgers or Brave without adding elite talents to the roster. Yankees will be better, Mariners, Texas, Orioles and Houston still be good, so need be smart and think about rebuild. Raptors are good example of what Jays shouldn't do, after loosing Kawi, they thought can win again, and they waited too long before trading Lowry, Siakam, VanVleet and Anunoby.

I would much rather spend money to offer salary relief to the Brewers then on many of the FAs left.

Just because we have money, doesn’t mean we should spend it unwisely.

Davidi also wrote something a day or two ago comparing the Jays to the 2013 Red Sox, which seemed like a way to brace the fans for a ‘spread the risk’ off season, but within that article seemed to imply that the Jays would consider Bellinger too big of a risk given his profile. Whether that’s him speculating or based on some intel he’s received is anyone’s guess.

I'm surprised the Yankees have not signed Bellinger yet. Ultimately that's likely where he ends up.

With Verdugo, Soto and Judge already out there and Stanton needing to be the primary DH...Rizzo at 1b. Where would he play?

They’re going to put him at third base

Broken down 32 year old Yelich coming off a dead cat bounce season, and signed until 2029 on $24M AAV reeks of desperation. Maybe if he is free.

He wouldn't just be free - Toronto would get assets for taking him on.

Great. Look forward to seeing what assets for taking on that boat anchor contract for free. I don't think its going to happen.

Pick your preferred OF addition with these assumptions (Laika's assumptions):

The "jewel"...

Bellinger - projected 2.5 WAR - 7/$175M contract

The good bats with bad defense...

Soler - 2 WAR - 3/$66M

Hernandez - 1.7 WAR - 3/$60M

The old farts and fringe defenders...

Pham - 1 WAR - 1/$10M

Hicks - 0.9 WAR - 1/$9M

Pederson - 1.5 WAR - 2/$24M

Brantley - 1.2 WAR - 1/$12M

Duvall - 0.7 WAR - 1/$8M

Grichuk, Peralta, Grossman - 0.4 WAR - 1/$3M

Defensive specialists...

Kiermaier - 1.5 WAR - 1/$11M

Taylor - 1 WAR - 2/$15M

Bader - 1.5 WAR - 2/$22M

The reclamation projects...

Meadows - 0.7 WAR - 1/$5M

Gallo - 0.5 WAR - 1/$5M

IMO even though they are all boring additions the three defense-first guys are probably the most likely to actually help the team. I could see a lot of the other options, the old guys and bat first guys, being bad deals.... at least with KK, Bader, and Taylor, health permitting, you know they are going to put up positive production and help on D and the bases.

I'll take KK and Duvall.

Then one of Hoskins, JDM, and Brantley to DH.

All 1-year deals to maintain flexibility for next offseason.

Getting both Soler & KK would be ideal if we miss out on Bellinger.

I think I would prefer Soler and KK.

And start focusing on Third Base elsewhere.

Fire Varsho into the sun.

Fire Varsho into the sun.

Hmmm.

FG projections:

Varsho - 3.1 fWAR ($5.5m Arb)

Springer - 2.8 fWAR ($25m AAV)

Soler - 2.0 fWAR ($16m AAV)

Kiermaier - 1.1 fWAR ($10m AAV)

Oh yeah, and...

Bellinger - 2.4 fWAR ($24m AAV)

And we want to fire Varsho into the sun? Why?

How many times has varsho gotten top 10 mvp votes.
