jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 If the team fails next year, he has to be gone. No ifs, no buts. Fails as in meaning winning the World Series? I think it will come down to how this teams looks during the course of the 162 game season. If they struggle in some areas and are a borderline WC team again like they were in 2023 which exits in the WC round, most likely. If the team looks much better over 162 games than they did in 2023, I think that will be the deciding factor. Even if they have an early WC or ALDS exit.

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 Take this with a grain of salt because it's Morosi. You gotta give them credit... they check in on everyone and wait for the first bargain. Love the approach. Getting him would make Varsho the 4th OFer. *runs away from all the Varsho stans
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 Take this with a grain of salt because it's Morosi. He’d be a great target for LF as a platoon option. Cover CF too
BatFlip Verified Member Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 He’d be a great target for LF as a platoon option. Cover CF too .750 career ops vs LHP and .914 vs LHP in 2023? And he can cover CF? Yes please.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 He’d be a great target for LF as a platoon option. Cover CF too I don't know man. Career 99 wRC+ v. LHP. Career 82 wRC+ hitter. 33.5 K% last year. He's like signing Bradley Zimmer. I think Harrison Bader is a better target. Career 121 wRC+ v. LHP.
deanmike Verified Member Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 If Michael A Taylor is still eyeing a starting CF role from the team that signs him as opposed to accepting a 4th OF role which would be his optimal role here, it could mean the Jays are willing to prioritize run prevention at the expense of offense again in 2024 (Varsho would spend another season in LF).

I think Harrison Bader is a better target. Career 121 wRC+ v. LHP. The difference in Bader's career splits are crazy. +130 slugging percentage vs. lhp. Bader probably more accepting of the platoon role as well.

wilko Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 Take this with a grain of salt because it's Morosi. His splits are kind of weird. Some years he's about even, others he's better against LHP... and other's RHP. He'd be like KK with a bit more pop.

They need a fourth outfielder who can play center. They aren’t signing him to start
deanmike Verified Member Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 I heavily agree with the Bader over Taylor sentiment

Vs Left Handed Pitching 2023 153 wRC+ 2022 66 wRC+ 2021 101 wRC+ 2020 223 wRC+
MikeM3 Verified Member Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 I've settled on step 1. Kikuchi for Kepler and sign Giolito.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 I heavily agree with the Bader over Taylor sentiment I'd be cool with either. I think Bader is a better defender but he can't stay on the field due to the rash of injuries, vs Taylor who has been a little steadier offensive contributor over recent seasons.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 Come on man even you know Taylor would be the 4th outfielder or weak side platoon partner/4th outfielder at best. He wouldn't sign with a team to be a 4th OFer after the season he just had.

No, he's like signing the Bradley Zimmer that Bradley Zimmer's mom thought Bradley Zimmer was Taylor's carrying skills (floor) are so good that he has been an asset every single year of his career, ignoring his rookie season. 2019 and 2020 don't count, less than 100 PA both times. He's like, the perfect 4th OF. Can play CF very well, has some pop, can run.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 It didn’t take long for Morosi to start peddling made up s*** again for engagement. I guess he felt enough time had passed since Ohtani gate. But yeah, Morosi aside, MAT would be a great 4th OF option.

Laika Community Moderator Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 I'd rather Bader, either guy would fill the role well. I feel like Bader has a bit more pull and should be able to get an uncontested starting CF gig He has those 3 and 4 WAR years on his resume and the only major question mark is staying on the field Taylor's game kind of erodes more when he gets full playing time...

Yeah I don’t mind talking about Morosi’s tweets if they make some sense but there’s a chance the Jays have zero interest in MAT. Morosi constantly makes things up.
Marew Verified Member Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 Not cool with Bader coming to my TV screen daily until he learns how to wear a mouth guard properly.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 Is there any way we could pry Vinnie Pasquantino off the Royals with his most recent shoulder surgery
Marew Verified Member Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 Is there any way we could pry Vinnie Pasquantino off the Royals with his most recent shoulder surgery Rather just wait for the dodgers to start unloading all these big contracts at the deadline when they are out of it. Could end with with freeman and betts or have kershaw retire a jay.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 Lol well I don't think they'll be out of it lol

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2023 Posted December 23, 2023 Think we should start taking bets on who we think will be the first major acquisition for the Jays. My ass is getting so bored here lol.
