Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 He did it without issue last year, he was outstanding, so I'm not buying that as a problem. We have a 5 deep rotation, a clear ace without a clear number two, any one of the other 4 can go two times through the order. Playoffs are so much about your bullpen now, I think some people here still think it's 10 years ago. There's not much to choose between the other four starters, so take the one that could be a lethal weapon in the bullpen and put him there. I think people are underestimating the impact he might have out of the pen. Consider adding an Andrew Miller type lefty to this bullpen, we don't have that and he has similar ability, I'm not even exaggerating. Both his walk and home run rate (lately) have been excellent, and I think he can easily give you 13-15 K's per 9 out of the pen. That's game changing. It's potentially series changing, with almost no cost to your rotation. I agree with this premise of using Kooch out of the pen in the PS, but who are these people you're talking about?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 Imagine Kikuchi after a night out on the town drinking. He probably is a huge write off the next day! Lmao!
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 In a WC series it would be Gausman/Berrios/Bassitt, and in a 5-7 game series, Kikuchi would follow Bassitt. You can certainly make an argument that Kikuchi could be the #3 guy but I don’t think there’s any chance the Jays actually consider that if everyone is healthy. Its not even certain that Gausman will get a start in the WC series. As of now, he’s scheduled to pitch game 162 and if we need a win then he’s pitching. Wouldn’t be enough rest time for him to pitch in the WC series, but he’d be ready for ALDS game 1. Although I guess there’s a possibility we see him out of the pen or something if there’s an emergency.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 You guys really have no idea how good 13-14 hours of sleep feels. I do one of those once a week its wonderful. I guess not having children on the weekend helps.

Omar Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 If you're going to base it on home run rate, consider that Kikuchi's rate has fallen off a cliff in the last 3 months, 20 in the first 3 months, only six in July through September. HR rate is ONE thing I would consider. Wouldn't base it on that completely. Bassitt does give up the bombs though.

Apparently a lot of the folks on here. I think in general, the average casual fan also still thinks of the postseason as it used to be, we're starters carried a lot more weight than they do now.

jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 The #BlueJays will have a choice to make with their final bench spot when Belt returns. Here's John Schneider: "I think a speed guy is very appealing at this time of year, and with who we have otherwise, you don't want to be too redundant."

That's a tough decision, I do love having speed, especially considering it's how we probably have to win games, but having that power bat, a guy who's been there, that has a lot of appeal also. I don't see the argument about redundancy because we don't have a lot of power bats. The injury to Belt came at such a bad time for him and the team. He's missed so much time, his timing is now probably completely screwed up.

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 lol. The f***-s*** scenario that will happen is in motion. No question this is what will happen. Mark my words. We f***ing forgot about it. WE f***ING FORGOT! It is good for us if Texas or Seattle wins 6 of 7. BUT THAT CAN'T HAPPEN. IT f***ING CAN'T HAPPEN. IF ONE OF THE TEAMS IS ON PACE TO WIN 6/7 THEY MIGHT CLINCH FRIDAY OR THURSDAY NIGHT, AND NOW WITH HOUSTON STRUGGLING they MIGHT EVEN CLINCH THE DIVISION. f***ING ALL CAPS IS ANNOYING. BUT WE f***ING MISSED IT. Texas clinches after 1st of 4 against Seattle. Tampa Bay still in tight race with Baltimore. TEXAS GETS DRUNK AS f*** THURSDAY OR FRIDAY NIGHT!!!!! DRUNK AS FUNKIKNG f***. REST EVERYBODY. DON'T CARE. HATE JAYS ANYWAY. f*** THE LAST 2 GAMES. Mean time Tamba Bay. Fighting against Baltimore. Pulling out every trick. 20 year old rookie doing fun things. Using every piece. Advance scouting like f***. Fighting as hard as they can to win the division. FINAL 4 SEATTLE/JAYS games TBR 3-1 over Jays, Seattle 12-0 over Texas (drunk as f***) TBR 6-5 over Jays with Romano blowing 3rd save of weak, Seattle 14-4 over Texas (still hungover) Seattle/Toronto Tie. Seattle has tie breaker Congratulations to the Seattle Mariners for a hard earned playoff berth, playing drunk as f*** Texas Rangers bench players the last 2 days.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 Sunday, Oct 1st. Apr. 5:40 pm. Seattle announcer 1: And there's Teoscar Hernandez's 3rd homer of the game! What do you call that? A triple triple. Julio and Teoscar both with 3 homers. What a fun day. So much joy. Seattle announcer 2: Did the Texas pitcher just hurl? I believe he did. He's a position player anyway so must not be used to the mound. Come to think of it their starter puked too. Must be something going around their clubhouse. Seattle announcer 1: Well don't celebrate too soon. Toronto has to lose. What is happening in Toronto? Seattle announcer 2: Good things for us. Rays score 3 in the 8th to take the lead. Fighting as hard as they can with Junior Caminero doing some great stuff, and some crazy bullpen moves by Tampa that are all working out. Seattle announcer 1: So much Joy in baseball. So much Joy. I hope Junior Caminero is for them what Julio is for us. So much joy when a young player works out. Thank you for the help Junior and Tampa Bay.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 Wat There is no likely scenario where one of Texas or Seattle goes 6-1. This is because if one of them wins the first 4 they might clinch, then play scrubs. I sort of forgot about that. So Texas winning a bunch just means they are hungover as f*** the last 2 games and play their scrubs, while Jays have to play a Tampa Bay team fighting as hard as f***. Last night was a devestating blown save that just means the last 2 days of the season will be hell watching Texas laugh, giggle and dance, while losing on purpose (well, just not trying) as the Jays get eliminated. Congratulations to Julio Rodriquez, Teoscar Hernandez and the city of Seattle. Winning the last 2 games 28-3 and clinching a playoff spot. Admittedly Texas was a bit hungover but all the same a great year for Seattle.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 Nah If Texas clinches the division before the final series that means Houston has fallen off the table. Which means Toronto would be comfy Very likely the teams all have something to play for until the last day or second to last day
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 If the Jays have a spot locked up going into the last day. Do they still throw Gausman on Sunday, or a minor league guy + bullpen game? If Gausman throws Sunday he’d have to throw on short rest to make game 3 of the wildcard round. If he’s held back he’d be on 6 days rest.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 This has been such a weird season and team to be a fan of. I thought we blew the season losing Gm 3 of the CLE series the end of August. You know its bad when Spank posts "all we have is hope". Then I thought we were done when we got swept at home by TEX. That was painful. Normally I've been watching baseball long enough to know it can go like this but its been a struggle with this team. Hopefully they can take it home now and win that PO spot - if they hit like they did today, or remotely close to it, we are great shape.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 It's not just that they got swept by Texas in 4 games, they got the s*** kicked out of them. Have gone 7-2 since lol What a team
infinitebook Verified Member Posted September 25, 2023 Posted September 25, 2023 I was thinking of what awards Jays could be in line for, and I feel like only for gold gloves, the question is how many? Varsho should win for LF and I'd imagine KK would take CF. Defensive metrics still rate Chapman well at 3B, he leads all AL 3B in DRS. Kirk could get consideration at catcher as well?
