jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 I think the disconnect between sides is that the naysayers are equating this to punishment or authoritarian rule. Like Babcock demanding to see your pics If I was in charge I would: Meet with Player X and all relevant departments (psych, nutrition, S&C, data, physio) Discuss the season at a personal level. Good and bad. Acknowledge that it wasn’t where either party wants to be Give Player X opportunity to disclose any nagging injuries. Address those immediately in the offseason Run relevant baseline data to reference during the offseason Set goals in conjunction with Player X that are both achievable and timely Develop offseason training blocks and dietary guidelines Establish accountability check ins (weekly, biweekly) Doing this with the player gives them a level of buy in because they were a part of the process. Creating accountability check ins allows both parties to be held somewhat responsible with the end result Honestly I would do this with the entire 40 man roster if I was GM. Players who have proven they have a strong system in place don’t necessarily need to use team resources. Players who haven’t met expectations will be given every resource necessary. Agree 100% with this.

Great ideas but I bet they do something close to this already. But then what?
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 Great ideas but I bet they do something close to this already. But then what? Yes, for sure. If Vlad, Kirk, Manoah decide to party and pig out in the offseason, nothing the team can do. Really, the best hope they don't Panda their way out of MLB.

Well you're right there's nothing they can do to force them to smarten up, the organization should be open to bad cop once good cop doesn't work though. Professional athletes are like children, if they know there's no discipline they will not respect authority. Send them down, take away playing time, and if even bad cop doesn't get through to them you got to just get rid of them. You just can't go forward with players like that.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 Nice. This fatty conversation helped the Jays cruise to another easy victory. Now let's keep it going. Why are all the white guys like Chapman built like UFC fighters but the Latinos except Espinal built like doughmen? Should the Jays resurrect the White Jays of the mid-2000's? Discuss.

Geoff Baker was an idiot.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 Good idea. We should build a jail cell with a giant hamster wheel inside of it down at the complex in Dunedin. Option Kirk to the FCL and lock him in there and only give him access to water and a head of lettuce each day until the playoffs start. Crank the heat up to 120 degrees as well. By the time playoffs start call him back up and he should be a good 30 pounds lighter. The World Series will be easy to make. Just spam his email every morning with this clip until he gets the message:

It would be great if it was that simple
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 10 games left and here are our playoff odds depending on the remaining record: 6-4 or better = 100% 5-5 = 98% 4-6 = 79% 3-7 = 42% 2-8 = 15% 1-9 = 3% 0-10 = >1% http://www.playoffstatus.com/mlb/bluejayswhatif.html

Crazy just how quickly things turned with that perfect improbable weekend. Please don’t f*** this up down the stretch here

Crazy just how quickly things turned with that perfect improbable weekend. Please don’t f*** this up down the stretch here Yeah it's hard to wrap your head around it but the AL West playing each other so much helps us a ton. The worst case scenario is that one of the M's or Rangers go 3-4 but even if that happens we damn near hit our magic number anyway if we play .500 ball. If one of them goes 2-5 or worse they are basically screwed and it gives us a cushion.
Ehjays Verified Member Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 The Blue Jays announced that they have selected the contract of outfielder Cam Eden. Infielder Ernie Clement has been optioned in a corresponding active roster move with infielder Mason McCoy designated for assignment to open a 40-man spot. This must be a pinch runner move. 53/57 in SB attempts this year in 131 games
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 At least two thirds of those are stolen on the pitcher in mybopinion.

The guys chasing a Cy, he's going to unleash fury on our noodle bats. We have to run up his pitch count and hope to beat the bullpen again.
