Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 I think Davis Schneider has become massively overrated around here because he popped a couple homers early on I'm overrating Schneider? Lol it's you people overrating a guy who has had an OPS in the .600s for the past 3 years. I'm not saying bat Schneider leadoff everyday. But maybe he should play over the guy who has an OPS in the .600s the past 3 years every once in a while? And I'm not crazy, all the projection systems like Schneider's bat more than Biggio's. I say give the young man a chance! He was good enough to get called up and he's produced in limited action. Let's roll with him and see what he's got!

It’s like 105 vs 101 Sure I don’t disagree that I’d like to see him get more playing time but its not like they are sitting Dustin Pedroia
keggy Verified Member Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 Anybody here think Biggio or Espinal would put up a .950 OPS in AAA? Just asking.. Biggio completely destroyed the minors coming up bro. The majors are hard

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 Craig Biggio's son could shoot someone in the middle of Yonge Street and he still wouldn't lose any support on this board. It's incredible.

It's incredible. Why would he lose support in the middle of a streak wherein he's been one of the best hitters on the team? Are you just trolling at this point? What, don't play him because he sucked in 2022 and 2021 when he's performing today LOL?

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 Singles, steals second - WHY IS THIS GUY PLAYING DURRR Any time Biggio gets a hit he extends the amount of support he'll get from his fanboys for another 2 weeks. It would take an epic 0 for 40 streak before anyone allowed you to suggest that maybe he should be benched for our hot hitting rookie. Even then I'm not so sure because I think he's had some pretty epic O-fers over the years and he still has ironclad support.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 What a shift. Gibby put Juan Francisco at 3B because he said f*** it and just put the best bat available there, while the Jays now will put 70 wRC+ players on the field just to improve the defense. I guess with the way the Jays are built, they value the run prevention more. Francisco was actually a pretty average 3B defensively until he cratered. He was no butcher by any stretch, though he did have a terrible 2013 with the glove. He also never played in MLB again after 2014 since he couldn’t hit a breaking ball to save his life.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 Seems like the greatest endorsement a player can receive is being hated by Term

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 Lmao you can’t make this up Craig Biggio’s son a part of all four runs so far and it’s the bottom of three
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 Lmao you can’t make this up Craig Biggio’s son a part of all four runs so far and it’s the bottom of three We call him Cavan when he hits. And you can't deny that Schneider's debut put a scare in him that ignited his recent play. Without Schneider and the calls for more playing time (which I've been spearheading), Biggio just assumes he can lolligag his way through another .600 OPS season with all the ironclad fanboy support he gets. So I actually think I deserve some apologies as well as some credit here.

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 Biggio to first and Schneider to second Problem solved This should probably be our starting configuration, with Belt at DH.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 This should probably be our starting configuration, with Belt at DH. Haha I don’t disagree right now. But you have to play Vlad and hope he gets it going. Doesn’t mean he has to hit third though
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 Vladdy needs to hit his way through this yes
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 Run prevention is how this team is going to win right now at the end of the day. It's boring as f*** to watch, but ... what can ya do. Everyone knows BIggio blows at 3B, and they obviously think Davis isnt good enough to man the hot corner either or he'd be starting there over Espinal. THe only defensible way to get Schneider in the lineup against RHP right now is to give Whit a day off which would allow Schneider and Biggio to play 2b/LF, start him at 3rd knowing he's not good defensively there - or just play him over Biggio at 2B. I can understand the arguments both ways for Schneider vs Biggio at 2nd, but dont know enough about his D at 3B to make an informed opinion there so I have to believe the FO knows what they are doing there in not starting him at 3b. Schneider's natural position is 3rd base though, I guess they think Espy's a better option, but how'd that work out last night, Espy and Vlad gotta make that play, just killed them.

He was phased out as a 3B in 2019. He is a 2B/LF

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 TIL John Scneider is swinging the bat rather than Vlad. Atkins, John, and the entire coaching staff should be in the hot seat if we miss the playoffs. Frankly they should all be gone if that happens.

I think Espinal should be deposited in the nearest AAA affiliate the second Bichette is back. All I’m saying is when an org identifies a kid as not being good enough for a certain position that they move him off that position early in his minor league career, there’s probably a good reason for it. That doesn’t mean he wouldn’t have made that plate last night, maybe he would have. It’s just a silly statement to think since Espinal made an error last night they should have started the other guy who hasn’t played the position regularly in 4 years. f*** Espinal and the burro he rode in on though…guy can’t be gone soon enough

Yeah if the Jays miss the playoffs, which let’s face it is a very real possibility with Seattle right there, then John Schneider should be one of many on the hot seat, including Atkins. My guess is they’d keep Atkins and Schneider while making Guillermo/Hudgens the fall guys but who knows. Missing the playoffs while being a tax team for the first time can’t sit well with Rogers.

Espy's been f***ing atrocious on both sides of the game this season.
