Probably because it’s impossible to know what kind of start Manoah is going to serve up these days and he’s been an absolute tire fire when off (which has been a lot).

Manoah against a LHH lineup like the Angels tomorrow might change that perception quickly.

Simple, why would they worry about spending a few more million this season, when it would easily result in bringing in far more than they spent? Whether they spend that money on a hypothetical Ohtani trade or two or three other far lesser guys. The team has clear needs that should be addressed.

 

I know trading for Ohtani, even if he was on the block wouldn’t happen, but why would ownership put out the feeling that they don’t want to add more money, when a postseason run would pay for itself and then some?

 

I get what you're saying and agree in principle. I just don't necessarily agree with the timing or that it has to be focused on Ohtani. If they can pull off a Francisco Liriano type of transaction, great I'm all for it. But Ohtani would cost significantly in terms of actual players/prospects. Something I am not sure the Jays are willing or able to do. As for transactions like Liriano's, has there been any indication that the Jays won't do a deal? I don't think spending is the problem here.

For sure, Ohtani was just the easiest name to associate with significant additional spending.

Chappy and Schneider on the exchange tonight...

Based upon Chapman's reaction I don't foresee a managerial role in his future. We've got one of the best pitchers in baseball on the hill, it's the first inning with one out and no one on. Walking him would be stupid in that situation.

I was at the game. So I didn't get to see this exchange but walking Ohtani in the first inning seems odd as an expectation. I get taking the bat out of his hands later in the game. But doing it in the first inning is a bit much.

Manoah gets 1 more bad start before he should be pulled from the rotation. It sickens me that I will see less Gausman because we are trying to squeeze in a guy who has bombed all year.

I've been begging for them to put Merrifield in the leadoff. Don't know what took them over 100 games. Still a glaring need for protection behind Vlad though. springer just isn't it.
