hanton Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 Springer hitting 5th This team always slow to react in making changes, most of us wanted this weeks ago. Right move
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 Do I think Merrifield is our best leadoff hitter no. But he is hot right now and has the knack for getting 2 hits a lot of nights.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 f***ing apple tv ******** tonight too isnt it

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 Oh no you can’t hit George fifth because projections
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 Ryu is starting Tuesday v. the O's.
mellowgold Verified Member Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 Ryu is starting Tuesday v. the O's. Sooooo...Gausman/Manoah/Berrios vs the Angels and then Bassitt/Kikuchi/Gausman/Berrios vs the O's? You gotta think they'd rather have Berrios than Manoah in that O's series.
MikeM3 Verified Member Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 The 100m rotation is finally together.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 Ryu is starting Tuesday v. the O's. That’s all we need, for Ryu to get absolutely lit up by the Os in his first start back
hanton Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 I haven't looked at the schedule but why bring in Ryu now to a rotation that's pretty much hitting on all cylinders.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 Correct me if I am wrong but couldn't somebody with Apple TV just stream the game on discord or something? Impossible to get in trouble because it would be a on private server.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 I haven't looked at the schedule but why bring in Ryu now to a rotation that's pretty much hitting on all cylinders. Probably because it’s impossible to know what kind of start Manoah is going to serve up these days and he’s been an absolute tire fire when off (which has been a lot).

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Simple, why would they worry about spending a few more million this season, when it would easily result in bringing in far more than they spent? Whether they spend that money on a hypothetical Ohtani trade or two or three other far lesser guys. The team has clear needs that should be addressed. I know trading for Ohtani, even if he was on the block wouldn’t happen, but why would ownership put out the feeling that they don’t want to add more money, when a postseason run would pay for itself and then some? I get what you're saying and agree in principle. I just don't necessarily agree with the timing or that it has to be focused on Ohtani. If they can pull off a Francisco Liriano type of transaction, great I'm all for it. But Ohtani would cost significantly in terms of actual players/prospects. Something I am not sure the Jays are willing or able to do. As for transactions like Liriano's, has there been any indication that the Jays won't do a deal? I don't think spending is the problem here.

For sure, Ohtani was just the easiest name to associate with significant additional spending.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Chappy and Schneider on the exchange tonight... "It comes from a good place. You know, I'm competitive and I just want to win baseball games," Chapman said after Toronto's 4-1 victory, according to Mitch Bannon of Sports Illustrated. "So, it's nothing negative or anything like that. Just sometimes I get fired up." Schneider also downplayed the incident. "It was manager and player talking about what unfolded. Let's leave it at that," Schneider said, according to Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Based upon Chapman's reaction I don't foresee a managerial role in his future. We've got one of the best pitchers in baseball on the hill, it's the first inning with one out and no one on. Walking him would be stupid in that situation.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 I was at the game. So I didn't get to see this exchange but walking Ohtani in the first inning seems odd as an expectation. I get taking the bat out of his hands later in the game. But doing it in the first inning is a bit much.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Manoah gets 1 more bad start before he should be pulled from the rotation. It sickens me that I will see less Gausman because we are trying to squeeze in a guy who has bombed all year.
93 Jays Verified Member Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 I've been begging for them to put Merrifield in the leadoff. Don't know what took them over 100 games. Still a glaring need for protection behind Vlad though. springer just isn't it.
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 The players don’t respect Schneider lol. Anyone who talked that way to Gibby would have left on a stretcher.

Omar Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 The players don’t respect Schneider lol. Anyone who talked that way to Gibby would have left on a stretcher. Maybe he was just venting to Schneider not necessarily at Schneider.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Maybe he was just venting to Schneider not necessarily at Schneider. Chapman doesn't seem like the dick type. Looks more like venting. Obviously any grown man doesn't like getting yelled at. But wouldn't let it be a huge deal.
