Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 Fun trivia for the upupcoming series: Who is the only player in MLB history to play exclusively for the Yankees and Blue Jays? (minimum 50 games because nobody knows who Ted Wilborn is). Three pitchers have thrown at least 500 innings for each club. Who are they? I guess this rules out Chad Green too

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 I wonder what Aroldis Chapman will cost at the deadline if he keeps this up? He tends to lose velocity as the season wears on though I think. 100% the Royals trade him.

The Dodgers probably want to avoid bad publicity as well this year. Probably a decent prospect and a lottery ticket assuming he stays healthy and continues to throw this well. Pretty much any team could have had him and he picked the Royals so assuming he didn’t have many offers. He’s literally exactly what we need power and swing and miss from the left side.
Jays333 Verified Member Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Do we really have a chance at the division with the Rays and Yanks but having top 3 rotations and ours being around average?

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Doubt it Well then, I guess it's over guys. Jays333 says we're f***ed so might as well not even watch the rest of the season.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Doubt it If you are saying that you doubt they "have a chance" then you are pretty stupid. Cheers!

Jays333 Verified Member Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Listen we can get a wildcard spot and maybe win a series. Our rotation will probably get it together for stretches and turn out average as compared to where we are now which is far below average. But the teams in the league with the best pitching are the best teams and win the WS 9 times out of 10. Were not one of those teams and we have 2 of them in our division. Im just stating facts.
Captain_Obvious Verified Member Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Do we really have a chance at the division with the Rays and Yanks but having top 3 rotations and ours being around average? Zero chance. In face, the Blue Jays will be demoted to AAA. Please stay away from bridges.
Jays333 Verified Member Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Its like modern day Hockey, the best defensive and goaltending teams win the cup 9 times out 10. The Oilers could break all the scoring records and Mcdavid could have 8000 points but they will never win a cup because they can't defend or get good goaltending worth s***. Just like the Jays, could have the number 1 offense forever but will never win a WS till the pitching gets better.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Jays have a chance at winning the division still. As long as another team doesn't runaway with it like how the Yankees did in the first half last season and if the Jays don't dig themselves too much in a hole. Rays should cool down, but lets hope they don't do what the Yankees did last season in the first half. Jays at 11-8 considering how underwhelming their rotation has been isn't that bad. I'll take that. Better than being 8-11 which is what they could be.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Do we really have a chance at the division with the Rays and Yanks but having top 3 rotations and ours being around average? Jays pitchers and Rays pitchers both have about the same strikeout to walk ratio. Jays hitters and Rays hitters both have about the same strikeout to walk ratio., The big difference is homers. Rays have out-homered opponents 40-8, Jays have been out-homered 27-20. Despite this Jays are still 11-8 (albeit with a poor run differential). Fly ball per homerun rates usually are luck. Haven't looked into the fly ball rates, but guessing the Rays have had exceptional homerun per flyball luck (both for and against) and the jays poor flyball to homerun luck and this will normalize. Plus Jays have played a harder schedule so far. Anecdotal story, Monday or maybe Tuesday and George Springer hit 380, 390 and 408 foot fly ball outs, and then Wedensday lined a double down the line except it wasn't a double it was right into a guys glove. Then Jose Abreau hit a blooper in the same situation which started a 6 run rally. Just seems like Jays have had some bad batted ball luck and Rays good and that will probably normalize.

Rest of season projections: Jays 78 wins Rays 79 wins Yankees 80 wins With the Rays hot start the Jays need to make up like 6 games on the projections. And leapfrog the yankees. 15.3% chance to win the division.

Laika Community Moderator Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 That's pretty sad actually. Yeah it's pretty brutal. Nobody expected the Rays to get off to this start, offensively. They had a 101 wRC+ last year... they hit 139 home runs. This year they have a f***ing 157 wRC+ and they have hit 42 home runs in just 19 games. And it's a TEAM effort. They have f***ing TWELVE different players with at least 2 dingers. Toronto has FOUR. Four. And one of them actually sucks so far (Springer). The Rays have actually been so f***ing good with the sticks that you have to wonder if they are stealing pitch-com frequencies or something.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 The Rays have the best offense in baseball with a 157 team wRC+ 2nd best team is Baltimore with 120 wRC+ Its actually so crazy it kinda doesn't seem like just luck. Laika might be right in saying they're cheating in some way
