Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Author Posted January 10, 2023 Sad the Jays had nothing to show for Josh Donaldson after trading him. Oh well, can't win them all. So the ones that claimed it was a s*** deal all along won that argument.

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 So the ones that claimed it was a s*** deal all along won that argument. It was actually an embarrassing deal. Anyone that argued otherwise was being a homer. We traded a former MVP for a guy who gave us 2 good innings lol. Good thing is that we are clearly past that era of the Jays. I'm pumped for opening day.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Still have the memory of this. Damn, high hopes after that, too bad he's glass. I'm surprised they cut him.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 So the ones that claimed it was a s*** deal all along won that argument. Meh, I think the Jays did get unlucky with JD in terms of the timing. They should have traded him when his value was still high like in 2017 or in the offseason. They waited too long. He was injured for the majority of 2018, on an expiring contract - don't think they would have got anything much better than Merryweather at the time.

Two most dominant innings by a Jays reliever I think ive ever seen. Makes sense why we held on to him for so long through all his injuries. Would have liked to have kept him around for at least another spring to have one final stab at it.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Mishandling of Donaldson is the No. 1 knock on Shatkins. Of course we don't know the behind the scenes details, but damn.....

Opening day at Yankee stadium, never forget that inning. Dude was untouchable. But I suppose most pitchers can look untouchable for a few innings each season.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Why DFA Merryweather instead of Thornton?
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 FWIW some dude on the sports gambling forums I peruse with a pretty decent capping track record would tail Thompson's starts pretty religiously. There was something in his pitching that the guy's modelling obviously liked relative to what Vegas lines were offering.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Why DFA Merryweather instead of Thornton? Must be something they know they we don't. Like medical/injury info/recovery.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Well hell, this again. Expected as Merryweather gets DFA'd. For all of you still with Donaldson PTSD, just pretend the trade was Donaldson and Liriano for Merryweather and Hernandez and shut the f*** up already. Four years of whining about this while at the same time the team played the Liriano situation perfectly.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Why DFA Merryweather instead of Thornton? Because one guy actually has a good chance of pitching in SOME meaningless games and not being on the IL all year
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Why DFA Merryweather instead of Thornton? one they have a trade potentially worked out?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 Just looked up his numbers and wow does he suck lol
TheHurl Site Manager Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 Former Rays FTW. Only 70 walks in his 6 year career.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 He must have really good stuff, 'cause he's had garbage numbers for a long time.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 Probably signed him to an MiLB deal because of this tweet, self-advertising

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 BA's international prospects bonus board came out today. Emmanuel Bonilla is ranked 4th. Born: Jan. 22, 2006. Ht.: 6-2. Wt.: 190. B-T: R-R. The Blue Jays have hit on international signings at the top of the market (Vladimir Guerrero Jr.) down to the lower-dollar signings like Alejandro Kirk and Gabriel Moreno. For Jan. 15, 2023, Bonilla looks to be in line for a bonus in the $4 million area. Bonilla has high-end bat speed and the ability to drive the ball with impact, giving him a chance to be a 25-plus home run threat. Scouts highest on Bonilla thought he had one of the best combinations of hitting ability and power in the class, with a sound swing path and a good approach. Others thought he was a good fastball hitter who would have to make adjustments to get better against breaking stuff with a power-over-hit offensive profile. Bonilla is an above-average runner with a strong arm, so he could start off in center field, though with his physicality it's likely he ends up in right field long term.

Man - we have really taken advantage of international signings. That system is so f***ed up, but I'm guess I'm glad we're taking advantage of it.

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 We should trade Biggio to the Red Sox for Tanner Hauck or some sorts of odds and ends revolving around that. They are in desperate need of MI help and Biggo could play 2b for them and back up other positions.
