The Mets paying 38 year old Max Scherzer and 40 year old Justin Verlander a combined $80M for them to have finally declined due to old age would be f***ing hilarious.

Right, but I remember reading that his spin rates this year are roughly the same as his career norms. Even in the game he was tossed from

Verlander's Mets debut isn't going well

Gave up two HR in the first

Has settled down since

Jack Flaherty against Toronto

5.0 IP

no hits, no runs

SEVEN f***ing walks

four strikeouts

lmao so pathetic

Cards getting absolutely blasted again today. Jack Flaherty f***ing sucks.

They pulled him after taking a comebacker to the hand, but can't help but doubt that he was injured at all.

What made them think their pitching staff was in any way acceptable? Their actual plan was for this to be the rotation:

Waino - 111 years old

Montgomery - good 3/4

Mikolas - good 3/4

Flaherty - injured and bad last year

Matz - injured last year

And the only depth propping up this paper thin shitshow was Jake Woodford, Packy Naughton, Dakota Hudson, and Matthew Liberatore. All of whom are basically guaranteed to suck except Liberatore.

I have a lot of respect for what the Cardinals do, but that's just embarrassing.

Montgomery has posted a 1.2 WAR thus far. Tied for 6th highest in the MLB.

He has a higher WAR currently than Shane McClanahan, Shohei Ohtani, and Framber Valdez.

Flaherty was always overrated. Also, the guy seems like an a-hole.

Good for him. Once his HR/FB rate regresses from 3% he'll be back to being a good 3/4 just like BTS mentioned.

Yup, I never said he was better than a No. 3 starter, just saying he has actually pitched pretty well this season thus far. He's a good mid-rotation starter.

Tampa Bay sweeps Pittsburgh… jesus man.

Pretty remarkable we were able to take 2/3 from them

Hope the Pirates keep up that play when the Jays roll into town.

A guy like Rich Hill's going to destroy them. I rather them face off against a fireballer.

Only TOR and HOU have won series against them

I didn't realize he was struggling that badly

Wow… He was a really hot commodity a few years ago….Quite the fall…

He's been pretty mediocre outside 2020. One of the rare examples of a guy from the Cleveland pitching factory not panning out. Just never had the stuff to produce swing and miss.

His xFIP and FIP are both in line with his career marks.

Really, they just happen to have three young studs to go to in Logan T Allen, Tanner Bibee, and Gavin Williams.

Could also see them option Quantrill at some point if McKenzie gets healthy.

Bieber, McKenzie, Bibee, Allen, Williams.... Plesac, Quantrill, Civale, Curry, Battenfield, Gaddis are all extra. Wow.

Bieber gonna be traded before too long anyways.

I was going to say Jordan's been more a 2 guy since the trade.

What part of the pitching factory did Ross and Mark leave in Cleveland?

Yeah... Our SP development has really been s***.

Hopefully that changes with Tiedemann & Barriera, but it seems nearly every pitching prospect we have fails at the upper minors or majors.

Manoah didn't, but he was only ever projected to be a #3 type guy, and, now that BABIP has regulated, once he settles in, that's probably likely what he is.

Cleveland just turns out #2 and above guys multiple times a year.

Yeah. THat video of Dahain Santos that someone posted in the prospects thread... im lookking at those 3 pitches and thinking.... 1st one wouldnt even get a sniff of a swing in the upper minors, let alone the majors it was so far out of the zone. The second one was a hanger that would probably have got murdered, but the third one was legit nasty.

I wasn't left with a wow factor there overall like the clips you see from Tiedemann. Kid has time to improve sure, but ... like you said, it's like there is something missing in the system that fails to take a guy to the next level, unles it's already obvious that he will be a stud and all he needs is reps.

Hitting hasn’t been better. Claiming Vlad and Bo wasn’t the same regime for one and for two, it’s going to be like a one hit wonder trying to claim success from their hit 6 years back or whatever it is

I don’t follow these non Top 100 Jays prospects like you guys do, but there seems to be a ton of pimping and nothing that ever comes to fruition
