jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 Scherzer scratched from his start today with a neck issue His numbers this season haven't been Scherzer like. I think the days of him being an elite starter are over.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2023 Posted May 9, 2023 I have mixed feelings if this is the beginning of the end for Mad Max. On one hand its sad that one of the best Pitchers of this era on the way out. On the other hand the Mets idiot owner is paying for it.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 Spencer Strider 2023 7 games 40 IP 4-0 ERA 2.70 FIP 1.85 K/9 - 15.08 WAR 1.6 Absolutely ridiculous Other than the K rate, Gallen has better numbers across the board
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 Other than the K rate, Gallen has better numbers across the board Okay? It's not like he said he's been the best pitcher in baseball.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 This stadium concept actually looks sick.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 Syndergaard left after 1 inning, must either be injury or illness?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 This stadium concept actually looks sick. I think I read this was being proposed in support of an expansion team? The last thing baseball needs is another MLB team in Florida.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 I think I read this was being proposed in support of an expansion team? The last thing baseball needs is another MLB team in Florida. They want an expansion team but I would imagine the Rays would be a more realistic target.

I think the Orlando market could be different than Miami and Tampa. Orlando is growing and get's a lot more tourists because of the theme parks, which could be helpful. But yeah, Florida wouldn't be my first choice for another baseball team. Would prefer Nashville, Portland or Las Vegas.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 They want an expansion team but I would imagine the Rays would be a more realistic target. I think if the Rays played in a new ballpark and actually somewhere along the waterfront in downtown Tampa, they could do better in terms of attendance.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 Orlando seems like it would be a good spot but I’m just not convicted anybody cares about baseball in Florida. That stadium concept is pretty sweet though

That stadium concept is pretty sweet though The Marlins have a new stadium in a good location and 2 World Series wins and no one cares. You are right about Florida, the Rays will never be successful in terms of attendance.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2023 Author Posted May 10, 2023 This stadium concept actually looks sick. The overhead shot …it looks like a giant sperm.

You are right about Florida, the Rays will never be successful in terms of attendance. Marlins new ballpark isn't in that great of a location actually. It's like in a residential area outside of the downtown core, along one of the highways that lead to the airport. Near Little Havana I believe. They have two World Series, but those were years playing at Dolphin Stadium and the teams were awful for many years after. Though yeah Miami has always seemed like an awful place for successful attendance. Rays just need a new ballpark downtown IMO. Their success on the field should lead to more people at the gates. The Trop is in an awful depressing area off the highway with nothing around it.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 The overhead shot …it looks like a giant sperm. So that's where it went. Sorry...one of mine got out.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 Rays DFA Chase Anderson one week after acquiring him from the Reds for cash. Making room on their 40 man to sign Jake Diekman.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 I've always agreed with this. Their TV ratings show it (biggest 5 year increase by a lot). It is interesting that the best team in baseball (by record) still draws the lowest road attendance (partially due to the weak teams they faced early).
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 J-Rod and Teo are batting 6th and 7th today, lol.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 J-Rod and Teo are batting 6th and 7th today, lol. Teo's having the usual effect. Do they sit and joke at the end of the dugout together?
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 Teo's having the usual effect. Do they sit and joke at the end of the dugout together? It’s okay if they do as long as everyone is having fun
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 The DBacks are really struggling to get much out of their pitching prospects this season. Pfaadt has given up 6 homers in 9.2 IP and is generally just getting completely destroyed lol, he's 1st percentile in just about Statcast metric. Hasn't struck anyone out, the fastball has a ton of spin (89th percentile) but it's coming in at an unsexy mediocre velo. Ryne Nelson and Drey Jameson are two others who are top 100 prospects coming into the season who have not debuted well at all. Corbin Carroll is at least a stud, but Alek Thomas kind of blows, Moreno has no power but is otherwise pretty good, and Geraldo Perdomo would be awful if he wasn't running a .455 BABIP, he's outproducing his xWOBA by 150 points. Certainly too early to call any of them busts, but not showing promising results early on. The downsides of prospects.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 After the A's finish losing this game to Yankees today (in spectacular fashion I might add) they will be on pace for 34 wins for rhe season They could challenge for a top 10 all time historical worst WL record.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 Watching this Kershaw performance has been sweet. This f***er just deals year after year with pinpoint fastball command and a sick Uncle Charlie, no matter the velo drop, he's fantastic.

Going to miss watching guys like that, the Halladay's and Verlander's et al... Dave Stieb was amazing to watch, I rarely missed a start when young. Saw plenty of Doc starts too, at least 20, I'd think and I'm being conservative. G-Snarls hooked me up with a pitching gem with Gausman.
