I thought about this also. Seems logical if another major sports team is coming to Canada that it would be in Vancouver, but they failed with the Grizz (I don't really remember why) and never seem to be rumoured when there are talks of baseball expansion. You would think that Vancouver would be able to support an NHL, NBA and MLB team though.

That said - I was today years old when I learned that Montreal is the 2nd largest city in Canada. :P

Vancouver is 7th.

Even Ottawa and Mississauga have larger populations than Vancouver.

Greater Vancouver Area however different story. Around 2.6 million people but still less than Toronto.

I think Vancouver could do well with an MLB team due to the massive asian population there.

But are they the right kind of asians?

Like... do Chinese people even like baseball?

Factor in the GTA population. Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton, Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill, Newmarket, Oshawa etc. A lot more people in the GTA versus the greater Vancouver area.

Also, larger cities closer by like Ottawa or Montreal that are 5 hour driving distance.

Taiwanese love baseball, but mainland China not so much.

Koreans and Japanese, but they don't make up a majority of Vancouver's Asian population.

BC Place isn't ideal agreed. They would need to build a new ballpark downtown somewhere. Vancouver would be a better option than Montreal IMO.

If they could find a space near Stanely Park or something, that would be great, I just don't know what kind of real estate is even available down town, or even across the inlet in North Vancouver. Having the Lions Gate Bridge nearby would be cool for scenery and it would certainy need to be near a SkyTrain hub.

Diamondbacks just designated MadBum for assignment. Sick of his s***** play and constant drama I assume. What a horrible signing this became for the Diamondbacks. 5 years $85M (in 2020) and he gave them 2 WAR before being released.

D'Backs have a chance to win the division or a Wild Card spot this season. Can't afford running him out there every 5th day, so smart move.

He's been awful since signing in Arizona. I'm sure he'll get another chance somewhere like Dallas Keuchel did, but I think his days as a Major League pitcher are over.

Vancouver is also full of f***ing pansies so that doesn't help when it comes to sports stuff

Basically, Montreal is full of douchebags and Vancouver is full of pinkos. Only Toronto through sheer size and a solid humble immigrant population can support major sports other than hockey.

I don't think MLB cares if thye are Douches or pinkos as long as they pay to go to the games

Oh - I didn't know that. I was looking here and it said Vancouver was at like $2.6M and then you add in Victoria, Abbotsford, Kelowna, Kamloops, etc. and you should be good to go.

The surroundings of Vancouver are pretty populated. Cities such as Burnaby, Richmond, Surrey, Langley, White Rock, and Abbotsford. Add that up, you get 2.6 million. Kamloops, Kelowna and Victoria are short flights but driving can be far.

Toronto alone has 2.7M. The GTA overall has around 6.2M. That doesn't include Hamilton, Kitchener, Cambridge or St. Catherines, which probably are an additional 1M and aren't that far of drives as well. So you probably have a little over 7 million people all within an hour or so from Toronto.

Taiwan has its own league so… technically yes? Mainland China has other problems

That "shoplifting crisis" angle is such horse s***, but even papers that aren't ridiculous, bottom tier tabloid ******** ran with it for a while (until industry spokespeople were forced to admit that it was a total fabrication/lie...)

I personally know CFOs/COOs whom after visiting Portland recently have said no way in hell they are investing or building new sites etc in the city. The homeless situation among other things is out of control.

Portland is also too close to Seattle.

Nasvhville and Charlotte are the front runners

There is no way both cities get a team, too close, atlanta will object also

Passan in a recent article mentioned Salt Lake City, Las Vegas (already getting the A's), Nashville, Charlotte, Portland, and Montreal as realistic expansion options. My guess is that if the Rays stay in Tampa/St. Pete with a new stadium and MLB expands to two more teams, then it's going to be one of Nashville/Charlotte and one of SLC/Portland. I don't expect Montreal to ever get another MLB team, but if the Rays situation falls through then maybe they revisit that.

Apparently the Phillies sold 58,000 hot dogs on $1 hot dog night at the stadium last week. Game was sold out and a food fight broke out in the late innings with people chucking $1 hot dogs all over. That's a f***ton of glizzy's.

Almost a 7 hr drive from Nashville to Charlotte. Almost a 5 hr drive from Atlanta to Charlotte. Charlotte is much bigger than Portland or SLC.

I believe Charlotte and Nashville can support teams and still be plenty of market left for the Braves.

Portland and Charlotte metro areas are not that far apart in population, maybe a few hundred thousand, but nothing substantional. I was looking at it the other day arguing with my brother about expansion teams and it was like... 2.6 million Charlotte to 2.3 Portland or something.

https://www.mlb.com/news/sweeper-slider-latest-pitching-trend-explained

I thought this was an interesting article. Manoah's slider is what I would consider a sweeper also, which is hopefully a glimmer of hope. There's talk of how many sweepers Bo has faced so far this year (up big time from last year) near the end of the article.

I read this yesterday and thought to myself, wow, this an MLB.Com article. Hah!

I’m not sure $1 hotdog night could end any other way

They’re lucky it didn’t make the field, if it didn’t

I honestly dont know where I stand on this... it was rosin and sweat, which is allowed... but it was past what they think it should be, so he gets suspended, but the Yankee gets caught, doesnt change anything after being asked and stays in the game. I don't understand one situation vs the other.

In no way do I think Scherzer was cheating. Especially after he got checked the first time. Nobody would take that risk.
