The Rockies newly extended closer is out with anxiety/the yips. That might be the most Colorado Rockies tweet I’ve ever read.

They replaced Bard's roster spot with a guy named Bird, probably hoping no one would notice.

Why only five games tonight with three being late starts and none being Blue Jays, why? Why why why?

For the curious: these are days that they set aside for matchups being played at non-dome stadiums. Such that, if the opening day does get delayed (weather/w.e), they can push the opening day by a day without any issue with ticket-holders.

Yup, Merrifield swung through. There was a few head scratchers yesterday by JS.

Its honestly a miracle we won. Letting Yimi pitch to Arenado with 1B open and a scrub hitting behind him was one of the dumbest things i’ve seen in a while. Even dumber because Oli Marmol made the mistake with Vlad the previous inning

You’d swear some of the people here have never watched baseball before. Its been like this for the past 20 years at least

Yeah, those are examples I'm thinking of, there was a few.

At least Marmol had the excuse that Hicks is wild and Varsho is no slouch. The Cards had the worst hitter on their team, probably one of the worst in the league, who is so bad they had him bunt with a runner on second, with Yimi Garcia who has an excellent walk rate for his career. Pretty indefensible to have him face Arenado in that spot.

Hated that call, hated even giving Tim Mayza the option to face Goldschmidt - yeah he failed at his job in getting there in the first place, but Swanson is a good pitcher with pitches that play well against the opposite handedness. At least he didn't double down on his mistakes and let KK hit away instead of bunting in the 9th inning. As previously mentioned, also surprised at the lack of running overall save for the one hit and run - which I didn't mind, Merrifield just whiffed - given the quality of baserunning on this team.

I don't know if the Jays had a lot of chances to run.

They did make a number of aggressive baserunning plays though:

KK 1st to 3rd

Springer 1st to 3rd

Vlad taking 2nd and almost getting thrown out

Bo running through the stop sign to score a run

For sure, aggressive and positive base running doesn't always just mean SB attempts.

I really enjoy aggressive base running. I think you trust veteran players like Springer and Kiermaier to make reads in those situations. The Kiermaier one was just as risky as the Vlad one. A lot of players definitely get caught to close to first base in that situation and thrown out at second on the force out.

We got rid 2 of our dumbest base runners in Teo and Gurriel so that helps as well.

Intentional walks seem to be down, and except for weird cases like Barry Bonds it has historically almost never been an automatic.

With 2 outs for sure your point is valid. But none outs runners on 2nd and 3rd, I wonder if the game probabilities indicate the intentional walk there is the wrong move.

The thing is you will be pitching to the scrub no matter what, and even if things go well O'Neil no matter what. So with none out the decision has to be made looking at the batter 3 lineup spots away. Do you pitch to Arenado or Gorman?

If you walk Arenado you get the advantage of facing a worse hitter (Gorman) and set up a force. Disadvantage is the extra runner which could lead to a bigger inning.

Damn, that's a bit extreme (on the part of the cops, that is)

A bit? Dude was literally kneeling, and not remotely a danger to anyone. Nothing about that situation merited an assault of that magnitude.

I hope that first guy, at least, is fired and charged.

I fully support the cops/security spearing any trespassers onto the field as violently as possible.

Ideally, anyone who steps onto the field ends up with whiplash AT THE LEAST. Cervical damage is warranted.

The security guy is trained to do exactly that and he was completely justified in doing so.

If that's their training, then their training needs to be changed. ZERO justification in an attack like that on someone posing no danger to anyone.

How do you know he poses no danger?

Anyone who runs onto the field is an unpredictable idiot. The ring box could have been a bomb!

He doesn't have time to determine if the guy is a danger or not. That isn't his role. Fans are well aware that they can't enter the field of play.

So the way the guy jogged out onto the field. He was either completely oblivious to the fact that he can’t be on the field. Or somebody gave him permission and it wasn’t communicated to other security.

I find it hard to believe someone is that stupid and wants to embarrass himself infront of the women he wants to marry.

This is a man we're talking about... stupid and embarrassing comes with the territory.

That’s the thing about cops, man. Black or white. They’re often looking to light your ass up.It’s one of their “perks”, don’t give them a reason

Welcome to the Age of Tik Toc

A lot of these I see I go viral are so obviously staged. It’s like reality tv all over

Disagree. He's apparently already out of jail and is uninjured. He got off way too easy.

They should have snipers positioned at the top of the stadium trained to blow his head off the second he steps onto the field. Or maybe dogs trained to rip people like this to shreds. Or at least lock him up for a couple of decades.

We're THIS close to being a full fledged "Running Man" society for criminal punishment. Can't wait!
