Spring training should not be this long though

Agreed. Its to stretch the pitchers out though. Maybe we should have like 2-3 weeks of games, and have pitchers report 2-3 weeks earlier and get stretched out to 50ish pitches on their own before the actual games start? IDK what the solution is

Yeah that sounds good, there is no need for position players to have over 4 weeks to get ready

Damn looks like Hoskins will be out a while….

Cancel spring training!!

If only he'd gone to the WBC, he might not have been playing in this game and been fine.

So what's the suggestion? Cut spring training down and start the season around March 20th? With more off days and an earlier start to the playoffs? Because as some guy who is not a fan of winter, having spring baseball games start in February has worked wonders on my mental health over the years. The fact that you guys started a spring training countdown thread has me thinking I'm not alone in this. I don't want spring training games starting later.

Spring training is fine.

At most, the SPs seem to get one more turn than they really need.

Veteran position players can just... ask to play less. Like Brandon Belt.

Start week earlier, with all games first week in warmer climates or domed stadiums

I'm pretty sure most of the posters are being tongue-in-cheek by making flippant remarks similar to those who were not a a fan of the WBC due to the "increased" risk of injury by having them play meaningful games outside of ST, as if injuries such as the Hoskins one don't happen in ST all the time.

There is no suggestion really. s*** happens. Deal with it and move on. Pitchers need time to ramp their arms up, hitters probably need less time overall but pitchers need hitters to throw to. Spring Training is fine the way it is.

I can say with near certainty that while the Jays themselves may have lost money in their own little vacuum, they made Rogers WAAAAAAAAAAAY more than they lost.

Rogers Communication annual gross profit for 2022 was $4.917 billion.

Rogers has the shadiest accounting in the league lol. No way the Jays lost money

I think we all agree.

We lost the trade.

Yup. THough I suspect he wont be facing many 27 year old relievers that just made AAA last season with 5+ ERAs and nearly 2 WHIPs.

Ooof RIP. Wonder if they can try Bryce at 1B this year with the TJs recovery? Or maybe they just put Castellanos there for the year or something

Goodbye Phillies, hello another team

Oh true, what an anticlimactic way to end his Phillies career. Maybe he comes back on a 1 year deal if other teams are worried about the knee? Probably best for the Phills to move on from him though, they have enough DH types as is

Time for me to see if anyone needs elite slugging Christian Walker in their lives

Thats what this sounds like

Alec Bohm probably belongs at 1B but then they’d need a 3B, and I think all they have is Sosa and Harrison as options. Would improve the defense if nothing else. But yeah sucks for Hoskins given this was his free agent year.

Phillies seem to have several 1st basemen who are playing other positions. Schwarber, Cast, Bohm - even Harper.

Big loss for them. I think Trea Turner may now be my favourite non-Blue Jays player, so I think this sucks for his new team.

Jason Heyward has made the Dodgers opening day roster.

Apparently the Yankees have upper level support for Volpe to break camp with the team. Wowser.

Problem is they don't really have other decent options for 3B (Bohm) or OF (Castellanos).

Their top MLB ready prospect is a CF, Johan Rojas. He is a light hitting player with elite speed/defense. If he slides into the OF it's probably the left fielder who gets bumped (I guess that's Jake Cave or a platoon?).

Schwarber can probably play 1B but he has surprisingly few MLB games there.

Darick Hall probably sucks but showed some power and will get a shot.

If Hall doesn't work out I wonder if we see Realmuto go to first more frequently and Rafael Marchan on the roster.

They could cycle through like 5 different 1B options this year, lol.
