I really don’t want them to overpay for Nimmo. I feel the trade market for a CF is the way better route. Jays have the assets to make that happen.

Agreed. The D-Backs make too much sense as a trade partner as they have a surplus of exactly what the Jays need, and are interested in a catcher. There is a deal there somewhere. Nootbaar from the Cardinals makes sense as well assuming he can play CF long term.

Are teams even looking at Brandon Nimmo as a "centrefielder"?

-3.4 UZR/150 in his career

OAA was good in 2022 but that's it

A few years ago he was BAD in CF and thought of as more of a corner guy IIRC

Mets have "played" lots of guys in CF who really shouldn't have been playing CF

At first glance looks like a light return for Teo, though Jays need to follow up this move with another OF signing or trade which they most likely will.

Even during what was considered a down year for Teo, he still posted a 2.4 WAR and the hope was in his contract year he would have put up big numbers and put up a 4-5 WAR season. If he does that with Seattle, hurts the Jays in the short term. Seattle likely will offer Teo a QO if he has a good 2023 season as well.

Long term, from a cost and control standpoint, the Jays get Swanson for 3 years at a very respectable cost rather than spending $30-40 million on a middle reliever during free agency. Swanson posted a 1.7 WAR last season and was an elite high K bullpen arm. If he continues to build on his 2022 season, he for sure will help the Jays. Only concern is we know relievers are volatile. Macko seems like a high upside arm who could start or worst case end up in the bullpen. 6 years of control is nice as well.

If Teo hits like he did in 2022, then nothing to cry over about losing him. If Swanson can repeat his 2022 season and have a 1.5-2 WAR season, based on salary + control of him and Macko, win for the Jays. If Swanson shits the bed, gets injured and Macko is just a minor league guy who never does anything in the bigs, then Mariners who are contending probably come out on top in the short term.

Should be easy to replace Teo with a FA signing or trade. Jays should be able to target a 3-4 WAR outfielder or better. As well, I think the way Teo presented himself at times this season, maybe moving him wasn't a bad idea after all given if they want to change the clubhouse culture a bit.

I agree. I just like his pic.

I like Teo but he was not getting extended past next year and the jays got someone they needed if it works out.plus a good prospect. Now they need to find a decent lh bat.

Teoscar is one of my favorite recent jays. Super positive guy, very hard working, always smiling, god tier name. I hope he gets paid next winter.

I totally get why we traded him though.

I think the Mariner’s FO probably think that they have the secret sauce when it comes to creating their own pitching. They probably think that these kind of deals are basically free.

I find it interesting that TV Dinner only pitched in one of the Mariners playoff games. Most of the Mariners pen appeared in 3 games.

Ross Atkins somehow got the Mariners to accept this trade lmao

Two things the Ms fans keep saying:

- Swanson mostly pitched in low or middle leverage so his numbers don't count as much

- The team didn't use Swanson in the playoffs so they must think he's not that good for some reason

I just smell a Derek Fisher deal coming. Admittedly I’m a pessimist though

No one's perfect, I mean getting Teoscar for the entirety of his rookie contract for half a season of Liriano was a masterstroke, we'll see how this pans out.

What’s wrong with the logic there. Maybe if SEA sees him as a potential dominant closer, they don’t move him

Those seem like logical reasons for liking the trade for them.

They should go look at his Savant page...

His playoff usage would definitely indicate that. Despite his incredible regular season numbers he was not one of their go to relievers in the post season.

Yea. baseballtradevalues is the ultimate source of accurate evaluation of trade. After all, Pearson has 0 trade value. And Varsho is worth 2 Morenos.

Reminds me a bit of Liam Hendriks in 2015, who Gibby for some reason did not use much in high leverage spots despite great numbers. I don't even recall him pitching in the playoffs that year except for the game Dickey f***ed up in the ALCS, but maybe I'm missing some. Hopefully the M's are misjudging Swanson the same way the Jays did Hendriks.

Well this is underwhelming. He was one of the worst outfielders I've ever seen in my life, but when he got going that bat can carry a team. It's nice we upgraded our relievers, with years of control, but we're going to need the kid in this deal to turn into something to make this worthwhile. We also need another everyday outfielder.

Maybe they should have used him given how their other preferred arms - Munoz, Penn Murfee, Paul Sewald, Robbie Ray?? (lol) - performed in the postseason.

They probably should have. I just thought it was interesting that he was one of their least used options despite the season he had.

Couple the fact that they just moved him for a 1 year rental, it’s logical to say they didn’t see him as what Jays might. That doesn’t mean anything of course, but just what it seems to be
