L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2022 Posted November 25, 2022 Well you'll never get a guy like Teo from free agency for 1/13 or whatever his salary projects at. Like ya, you can sign Nimmo with some of that money but you're going 5 years long and way higher AAV. Teo can give you 4 wins next year on a 1 year deal. It's very unlikely we replace that production at that term. You can easily hand out a Kikuchi contract and Swanson loses 1 tick and he's dog s***, and you just cost yourself 3-4 wins in a blink of an eye. Teo is a pretty solid bet to hit next year. His track record has been surprisingly steady. Doubtful Teoscar is worth 4 wins next year. Yes it is very unlikely the Jays sign someone for 1/13 worth 4 WAR. More realistic is they brought in a 1 WAR reliever and have x million to address the outfield and improve the defense. I said earlier the Mariners moved a good BP arm and a good prospect so that they don’t have to commit to 5 years of a corner OF.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2022 Posted November 25, 2022 It’s not MLB The Show. For everyone trade, there’s probably 200 man hours exploring one. And any FA that has potential or is good, is going to have a number of suitors. Even I’m not suggesting Jays are sitting on their hands But you came out and stated that “it is entirely possible that there is no other shoe” to drop. If you meant something other than the apparent meaning it didn’t come across like that.

If you meant something other than the apparent meaning it didn’t come across like that. I meant it’s possible no shoe drops!? I didn’t say it was probable. I also wasn’t saying Jays weren’t trying. By news sources, we know they kick the tires on like every f***ing player that may even be the slightest bit available. But I’m sure they won’t force something. And they’re very fond of 26th man upside moves
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2022 Posted November 25, 2022 The team has more big league catching options than big league outfield options right now. There will be another move. Whether the move is good or not remains to be seen but there will be a move. Yes, the No. 1 option is trade, ideally with d'backs. If that falls through, I expect Jays will sign one of the FA OF in short order.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 25, 2022 Posted November 25, 2022 Winter meetings soon babyyy Things can actually start picking up. Baseball off-season is so drawn out. Its not like the NBA and NHL where everyone basically signs the day free agency starts.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 (edited) Jerry Dipoto says he engaged the Jays front office right after the lockout this spring about trading for Teoscar then. Says they "came up short" with what the Jays were looking for in return. Still wanted him so tried again in the off season. Edited November 28, 2022 by G-Snarls
InsideThePark Verified Member Posted December 1, 2022 Posted December 1, 2022 Sign Rodon, Trade Jansen+ for Nootbar, Moreno+ for Carroll, Kirk+ for Burnes, sign Contreras Nice to see that Siddall can have almost as ridiculous an idea as me /s
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2022 Posted December 1, 2022 Nice to see that Siddall can have almost as ridiculous an idea as me /s Not ridiculous. Having 3 top 10-15 C on a team is ridiculous, having 2 top 10-15 C on a team is a luxury.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 Nice to see that Siddall can have almost as ridiculous an idea as me /s Could definitely build a stronger team for 2023
