This feels a lot like Atkins throwing Schneider under the bus. There's no way it wasn't strongly suggested to Schneider that Berrios should be pulled early for Kikuchi.

Time for Ratkins to hit the road. I can feel his smugness through this message board

Atkins basically said they just make sure the Manager has all the data but the front office has no direct involvement in tactics.

That seems problematic.

But it also has to just be a bit of a lie.

Like one of the pieces of "data" is probably a nerd memo outlining possible tactics.

I dunno. Weird s***.

Ross Atkins said everyone who is in that pregame planning meeting wears a uniform.

Leave the nerds alone!

They should’ve held the presser with Ratkins and JS at the same time to get the truth out

He's trying deflect blame from himself and his front office staff. And it's probably not a lie. But when your bosses give you 'data' that likely also makes the connection to optical tactics that would result from the data, the field manager doesn't exactly have complete autonomy to do what he wants with it.

Atkins doesn't come off as a straight shooter, and this kind of communication erodes morale.

This presser will create another round of controversy now. To me itÂ’s unfortunate the Berrios decision will dominate discourse when the even bigger issue for me was scoring 1 run in 18 innings and making 2 questionable outs the bases in key situations.

As someone who is in a management position at a major company and was also in the military I just saw infuriating piss poor leadership and accountability.

Ross just threw John under the boss after John has gone out of his way to protect the FO, took zero accountability. Ross also exposed the team’s process is so inflexible that issues that were glaring in April, May, June are not able to be identified and fixed in a 162 plus two game season, but need to be fixed by process, not personnel in the off season.

Seriously f*** off. I had been on the fence up until a week or so ago, but f*** off!

There's no chance on earth that Schneider pulled Berrios on his own

He was given data suggesting that Berrios shouldn't see the Twins' lefties twice in a close game. And also suggesting that Kikuchi coming in early would be optimal in that situation. And he's probably aware that losing while disregarding the data is very bad for his job security.

But we're to believe that he acted completely on his own. Atkins is kind of a snake.

Atkins is lying, and is also a coward for letting his subordinate take the full blame for it. Charlie Montoyo did the exact same thing in 2020 and he’s not here anymore, so either that’s a crazy coincidence that two different managers thought the same way or the org might have their fingerprints on it.

Atkins and Schneider both being back would be a massive letdown.

Yeah it's ********

Literally JS made the call. But if Atkins was being honest he would add something like "ultimately the structures in place that lead to John making that decision were put in place or the responsibility of myself".

I also hated what he seemed to be saying about the front office being some kind of hands off observer once the season gets in motion.

John Schneider is a baseball guy. Love him or hate him he was following orders from management. There is zero chance a guy who played, coached as long as he did in the minors and has dedicated his whole life to on the field decides to make that move without any outside influence.

This was a decision made by the nerds upstairs who think they’re smarter than the guys on the field because the computer said so.

f*** Ross Atkins, he’s a little bitch at this point and just capped off tarnishing whatever image he had left

This is definitely one of those times where the actual words being said are technically true, but a s*** load of context and other factors are not being expressed.

Example of course saying he was "surprised" by the Berrios pull and found out at the same time as fans.

That's probably technically true as I'm sure Atkins himself didn't call up Schneider and tell him he had to do X. But he definitely created and implemented a system whereby Schneider felt that pulling him is what the system in place would call for in a do or die game.

Rogers better step up here. Nobody, and I mean nobody will sign here who are interested in winning. The front staff can't be trusted and the shots have been heard around the league. The only players that will sign here are the players who are only interested in getting paid. This front office will in no way attract hungry players moving forward. This front office has now officially tainted the organization and that's a major problem.

Atkins basically admitted we run things like a team in like 2015 where they still havenÂ’t figured out how to effectively feed knowledge to management/players and he hires dumb managers.

And that is him covering his ass.

This is not a smart front office. Its been very clear for a long time. Hopefully, we have a deepish playoff run before the end of this window.. and then they hire better.

Also, its not a smart front office and from a more human pov Atkins is a weasel.

Didn't think it was possible but that presser created the worst of all outcomes for this franchise.

Even if his version of the Berrios move is technically accurate, I like Atkins less = snake. And if it is accurate, Schneider has to go. I just don't believe the FO didn't create the environment for Schneider to feel he needed to make that move.

And we still only scored 1 run in 18 innings, coupled with horrendous base running.

I wonder if Shapiro delayed his media engagement to read the room on the reaction. He can come in and be the demonstrative hero and make change.

Well someone is lieing here. Take your pick, it doesn't really matter to me. Just know you got 🐔 s*** management running things either upstairs in the office or the clubhouse or perhaps both.

Even if Schneider didn't make the call he should still be gone. That is obvious to every observer. You need the respect of your players to accomplish anything.

Jesus is this the most dysfunctional 89 win team ever? I find it incredibly strange that during a time of intense scrutiny and controversy that Atkins would get up there and stir the pot up even more. Cracks are showing, its not a good look at all. Something need to give. Edited by Jays333

Pretty sure Atkins knows he's going to get fired lol

Before that press conference i thought there was no chance he was getting fired but after… that was very unprofessional. Seemed kind of desperate and mean.

I pick BOTH Atkins and JS go. I think John Havok, BTS and Carlos Dangers views on how this actually happened and what kind of "leadership" this is, are on point. Unfortunately its consuming the discussion on the outcomes because it is a big deal, but I'd like to see as much attention on why we struggled to score runs all year and got 1/18 innings in the 2 games.
