jaysthebest Verified Member Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 Only Espinal has a lower fWAR than Vladdy among the batters who played a significant amount of games. (Espinal: -0.6, Vladdy: 0.5)

(Espinal: -0.6, Vladdy: 0.5) Vlad has to have a 2022 Bo Bichette like September for the Jays to make the playoffs. The Jays need to go on a run....10 of the next 11 and then take the 3 of 4 against Texas.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 Why he no put pitcher in to run for Kirk?

mellowgold Verified Member Posted September 3, 2023 Posted September 3, 2023 Schneider at it again. Guy is obsessed with Jimi. He simply MUST use Jimi as the first guy out of the pen if the starter gets yanked in the fifth or sixth inning and there are runners on base. Like, it's ridiculous. I truly believe he would still go to Jimi in that situation if he had thrown three days in a row and the rest of the pen was completely tested. YOU HAVE OTHER OPTIONS DUMBASS

Shouldn't be coming on with runners on base, protecting leads. He's a middle reliever at best who should be starting a clean inning, in the 6th or 7th inning with a 4-run lead. I don't want Garcia pitching in any high leverage situations.

From what I've seen it appears that Yimi thrives in a fireman role and struggles the next inning if he remains in the game.

Yeah Yimi has totally been used incorrectly. If he were utilized effectively he would have accumulated more than the full win above replacement he provided in the last 3 months. The team should definitely bury the pitcher who has been their most effective reliever for half of the season at the bottom of the pecking order. Who cares if he's been one of MLB's most effective firemen at shutting down opposition rallies mid inning, he just had a single bad game so all of the good he's done has effectively been erased.

My favourite Blue Jays homer coming out in full force with pitch forks ready to defend this team, coaching staff and front office at all costs! Give the Blue Jays Discussion Thread a read, you'll have a field day!

I wouldn't expect a doofus such as yourself to actually notice that though.

JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2023 Posted September 4, 2023 Wow that lineup SUCKS Schneider = Motoyo 2.0 Idiot just like him. I would choose to play the hottest hitter on the planet.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 4, 2023 Posted September 4, 2023 Schneider = Motoyo 2.0 Idiot just like him. I would choose to play the hottest hitter on the planet. Ronald Acuna Jr? Jk. Yes. Schneider should be in there today. Only good thing about this lineup is that Espinal isn't in it
deanmike Verified Member Posted September 4, 2023 Posted September 4, 2023 Wait I just realized something. Not trying to justify John's decision here, but in this last stretch that Babe has been in the lineup everyday, the Jays haven't faced a single high-velo RHP starter during that time. I guess John is still chickening out when it comes to playing Babe vs high-velo RHP starters. Which is weird because Biggio also sucks against high-velo RHP starters, however it seems Medina has much worse splits vs lefties than righties, so that could be John's warped reasoning there.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2023 Posted September 4, 2023 Schneider's usage of our worst reliever in Garcia is one of the most puzzling things I have ever seen. I can name at least 10 times where he has blown a game when another reliever should have been pitching. It's almost unbelievable how many wins he has cost us this season. You wouldn't know it from the stats, but anyone who has watched the games knows it's a bare minimum of 5 games.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2023 Posted September 4, 2023 I think people can have rose colored glasses when it comes to Gibby, especially the 2015 version, but holy s*** he runs circles around the guys Atkins has hired. Montoyo and Schneider making the same mistakes over and over again is just unwatchable, and you can't put all the blame on them because they are likely just doing what the org wants. Spending $85m on the rotation and not letting them throw more than 85 pitches a start when things are going well is absurd.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2023 Author Posted September 4, 2023 I don’t get the hook today either. Just because you have 8 relievers doesn’t mean you have to use 5 every game. This is one where I would have definitely left Berrios in longer
mellowgold Verified Member Posted September 4, 2023 Posted September 4, 2023 Just checked the boxscore and low and behold Schneider's boy Yimi blew another one. The guy will never learn.

His numbers have been great despite some bad outings where he has blown a number of leads this season. It's just bad luck.

Yimi Garcia has been one of the best relievers this season for the Jays. He should be used in every close game, despite blowing a lot of leads! It's just bad luck and everything will even out eventually, even if we're already in September!

This is one where I would have definitely left Berrios in longer Berrios has been the Jays second best starter this season. No need to give him an early hook. Schneider's bullpen management has been awful. Like you said, I feel like he wants to use 4-5 relievers per game because he has them available, even if he doesn't need them.

He has blown 4 saves in 22 save situations. there may be some others too in tied games but given he only has 4 losses I very much doubt it is 10 times.
