wilko Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 I've lost A LOT of respect for the posters dissing Gibby in this thread. A LOT. I'm about to DDoS this site!
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2022 Posted September 20, 2022 I'm about to DDoS this site! It's probably warranted tbh. Mods need to nip this in the bud asap with bans or it could get ugly fast.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted September 21, 2022 Posted September 21, 2022 Gibby was a moron, i remember a game (2015) vs the Yankees in a pivotal September game, 8th inning with Ellsbury, McCann and Beltran coming up (all lefties). The guy has prime Brett Cecil in his pen, Gibby decides to go with Aaron Sanchez because he's his "8th inning guy" who promptly walks the first 2 batters. Cecil eventually comes in and cleans up the mess but he should never have been put in that position to begin with. Point is, Gibby domb/overrated The door is on the left. I suggest you show yourself out.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 Judge not great on sliders. I liked Bass vs Judge last night. Rizzo crowds the plate and gets hit a lot. He also walks a lot. Mayza has a lot of run on his pitches and it's a dangerous cocktail with no place to put Rizzo. With bases loaded I liked Bass there. But I also understand don't let Judge beat you. It worked out and it was a W so it looks brilliant. Props to Schneider for having balls either way.

Roll the dice and if you win, great. Either way you end it soon. If not get after it for the next two games.

I thought they could have just done the old unintentional intentional walk thing with Judge. Throw him all sliders off the plate, see if he gets himself out. But then you risk hanging one. Mayza is nails against lefties though. The talent gap between Rizzo and Judge is massive. Mayza and Bass are about the same. So I think the move makes sense if the goal is to get out of the inning without giving up ANY runs. The interesting thing to me would be to math out the run expectancy though. Like there is a chance that they increased their odds of giving up NO RUNS while actually increasing their expected runs against, if that makes any sense.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 Blake is good. Jays talk PLUS is good. He is a numbers guy. I yield on this one. They made the right call.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 Blake is good. Jays talk PLUS is good. He is a numbers guy. I yield on this one. They made the right call. Yep Blake is good. I sent him a message of encouragement a little while back telling him he is the best baseball guy on the station.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 I thought he was a basketball guy through and through?
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 I thought he was a basketball guy through and through? He is a big basketball fan but also some great baseball stuff on his pod. Drills into the numbers and looks under the hood. Mixed in with a nice dose of unabashed Jays fandom.

Oh yeah, I know(follow him), that's why I saw it, he's a pretty smart cat. I found it funny as he mentioned the exact same thing, Laika said. Haha!
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2022 Posted September 27, 2022 I thought he was a basketball guy through and through? Nah, both. He's a good follow.
Masterbather Verified Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Meh. Don't care, not on him ultimately. Front office owns this.
Fastball21 Verified Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Um, Schneider is only our interim manager, he won't be back next year.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Do we really believe that Schneider has cart blanche or was it an organizational decision for how to manage the pitching?
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Every single move he made blew up in his face pretty remarkable.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Do we really believe that Schneider has cart blanche or was it an organizational decision for how to manage the pitching? Nahhh that seemed like very inexperienced manager trykng to save bullets for the next game type moves.

THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 This is mostly on Atkins for the BP he built.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Don't really see the point unless they bring in Terry Francona or John Gibbons.
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Greatest move by a manager in the history of this team's baseball. What in the literal f***.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 This is mostly on Atkins for the BP he built. Not a WS caliber bulpen
Mac Outlaw Verified Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 This is mostly on Atkins for the BP he built. Atkins built a bad bullpen indeed. And Schneider couldn't wait to use it. Fire John Schneider. I'd love Gibbons back but he's probably too old. Don't know who the answer is, but this red faced clown ain't it.
Jaysareus Verified Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 That Seattle manager bugs me.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Nahhh that seemed like very inexperienced manager trykng to save bullets for the next game type moves. But if he was trying to save bullets wouldn't he be trying to push Gausman to go deeper so he wouldn't burner through as many relievers, thus giving him access to them in game 3?

What's Schneider supposed to do when every "high leverage" choice he could use doesn't have much swing and miss or velocity? He's rolling the dice no matter what he did.
