Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 I'm thinking with some inflation on the projected deals... Nimmo might be $22M AAV (over 5 years) Kiermaier could be $12M AAV for 2 or 3 years Conforto might be $15M for one year KK and Conforto seem right, maybe slightly low. Conforto at that price seems like a steal when Bellinger gets 17.5. I think you are way too low on Nimmo given this market. Steamer projects him to out WAR Bogaerts next year. I could see him getting 6 for 180. Maybe even more.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 I guess the AAVs are coming in close to where we thought it's more the length that has been bigger. So maybe like 7/175 for Nimmo. Sounds nuts to me but so does an 11 year deal for a 30 year old Bogaerts.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 Why didn't he move when Semen was signed? One year contract. I believe it was discussed.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 One year contract. I believe it was discussed. Discussed with Simmons and Bo?
Sorrow Verified Member Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 I wouldn't be surprised if Bichette gets one more year at SS while we have Merrifield at 2B and if he doesn't show improvement we try Barger who may project better or sign someone externally. I don't think they'll run Espinal as the everyday SS because he can't hit RHP.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 Discussed with Simmons and Bo? Yea I believe that was one of the ideas pitched. It was a few years ago so I don’t have the quote in front of me. But I remember Bo saying distinctly it the Jays decided to bring in a big named Shortstop that would improve the team he would have no issue moving. Carlos Correa fits that bill for sure.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 Nothing really new here but I didn't see the 6 years 23 Mil per number thrown around yet. That's 138 total. That certainly carries a lot of sticker shock but in this market it's not that bad for a guy who projects to be slightly better than Bogaerts does next year.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 The word love scares me. He should only be loved at the right price.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Why do you guys act like you're the personal accountant for the Jays I can not believe Im reading arguments about a few million dollars on f***ing one year deals when this stupid front office has signed players like Kikuchi and morales. You're going to get f***ed in free agency it's just a fact, f***ed if you do and definitely f***ed if you don't cause this team as it is won't even win 90. Pricing is all messed up cause they've expanded the playoff format and now a significant chunk of teams can be contenders with minor tweeks Atkins is being a pussy
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Relax, dorks Lots of offseason left
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Atkins is being a pussy He is. But Rogers shouldn't be let off the hook either. They are risk averse. Shatkins needs to follow suit. They wouldn't just be handcuffing themselves for no reason. They have directives they must follow.

Shatkins were given a big budget and a blank slate while being given the best player on the team currently (Vlad). It's been 7 years since they've been here so everything should be solely on them and no one else. Now we're still World Series contenders who just need to patch up a few major holes to really take that next step. Let's hope Shatkins can make that happen or else their asses won't be here in a few years.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 s*** Kikuchi is going to be our 4th or 5th starter isn't he
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 s*** Kikuchi is going to be our 4th or 5th starter isn't he Bassit and Rondon still out there. Pablo Lopez and maybe some of the other Miami young guns are still on the market. I hope to hell not ref Kikuchi, but not going to panic yet....
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 I think Kikuchi is locked into #5, White is the de facto #6 and they’ll bring in one starter to fill out the rotation

I hope to hell not ref Kikuchi, but not going to panic yet.... Rodon Bassit, Senga syndergaard stripling, Conforto, Benintendi, brantley.....a few names....but as each one leaves the board the anxiety gets higher. If we got one starter and one outfielder from that group I'd be happy.

TorontonianJD Verified Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 I’d like to know what the Jays FO plans on doing to replace Teo’s run production!
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 If they can’t bring in a CF they could pivot to Brantley. Doesn’t help the OF defence but a steady LH bat with good OBP is better than nothing
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 I’d like to know what the Jays FO plans on doing to replace Teo’s run production! Scoring runs was absolutely not this team's problem, so this shouldn't be the major focus. We've got more than enough thump in the lineup w/o Teo to score the runs we'll need. That being said, they'll bring in an OF, 100%, but it may not be the clean-up hitter of the future.

Let's hope Shatkins can make that happen or else their asses won't be here in a few years. They haven't done a very good job of developing cheap young talent that can step in and be meaningful pieces to the roster...especially in the pen. That should theoretically be the easiest place to do it. If you don't have a steady pipeline of talent coming up ready to step in year after year, you have to spend more than Rogers wants to.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Thor anyone? Why’s his talks so quiet? Rather have Wacha instead of Thor
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Thor anyone? Why’s his talks so quiet? Maybe he still thinks he's old Thor.

Then trade for an OFer, preferably a capable CFer Yeah I'm more or less in the same boat. Signing one of these pitchers to start, bringing in Kiermaier to split center field duties with Springer (it seems more than likely that at least one of these guys will miss significant time), and then trading for someone like Max Kepler would suit me perfectly fine. The outfield defence would be massively upgraded in that scenario with a bit of a hit to the offense. Alternatively signing both Keirmaier and Conforto to short term deals could allow the team to paper over the outfield if there are no decent trades to be worked out.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Thor anyone? Why’s his talks so quiet? Syndergaard might be an interesting target. From an article by Passan recently: “No longer able to reach 100 mph as he did regularly early in his career, Syndergaard this winter is relying on data to improve his mechanics and refine his pitches after visits to Driveline and Tread Athletics, two noted pitching factories.” His velocity dropped to 94 and he couldn't strike hitters out anymore but was still a 2 WAR SP. I'm not sure how much upside there is there, but even if he's the 2022 version going forward, he's still a decent 4/5 starter. At least he's a lot more intriguing than Kyle Gibson. Rodon would obviously be ideal and Senga would be a nice gamble as well, but don't see the Jays winning either of those two battles. It's either going to be a trade or signing a #4 starter in free agency.

Dropping that kind of money on someone who hasn't thrown one pitch in the majors doesn't sound like their MO.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Still some interesting relievers out there too. Taylor Rogers Craig Kimbrel Trevor Williams Trevor Rosenthal Andrew Chafin Michael Fulmer Seth Lugo Matt Moore Although I doubt any closers will want to come to TO with Romano here, unless they're OK setting up in high leverage.
