Anyone feeling a Springer DH, Tapia CF day and Tapia misplays a ball in CF that gives yanks the win?

Tapia is LF today. Gurriel sitting.

What makes we wonder about this is that it’s a conscious choice. We don’t emphasize the pen at all when it comes to use of resources. Our front office isn’t stupid so that must be on purpose.

What makes me a little worried is what it says about our pitching dev, acquisitions and or game planning. We should have been able to develop more of our own by now. It’s been 6 years.

Other teams fluctuate year to year but they always show signs of purpose. They teach their pitchers the same pitches, we see drastic changes in this pitcher or that pitcher.

Of course, this could be a problem they’ve already realized and right now they are rectifying it but it’s worrying.

I remember 2 or 3 years ago hearing that the Jays had a bunch of "flame throwers" at AAA on their way to bolster the MLB bullpen.

Apparently they all vanished into thin air?

Can't really remember too many names. Jackson McLelland, Bryan Baker, Derek Law maybe? Some Taylor kid, he was Canadian. Must have just been a bunch of guys who could throw hard but never knew where it was going I guess..

Taylor got taken in the rule 5 I think.

He's cooked, it was a standard TJS procedure...

Hate all the secrecy that surrounded Ryu over the past week… we all guessed it was gonna be TJs.

His time as a Blue Jay is likely done.

ROSTER MOVES:

RHP Trevor Richards (neck strain) placed on 15-day IL

LHP Matt Gage recalled from Triple-A and will be active today

Got to love the way Atkins protects his acquisition prowess with the neck strain reasoning for getting Richards to hopefully reset himself instead of just admitting he sucks and needs to be sent to AAA to work on his game. Ross is worse than a politician and his s*** is getting old real fast. No sugar coating this moron anymore.

I really don't care as long as he isn't pitching anymore.

Hopefully he figures his s*** out during his rehab stint, whenever that is.

He'd have to go on waivers, phantom injury takes care of that for both of there benefit.

Richards doesn’t have options. He can’t be sent down.

Why even use an option? It was Biggio’s neck once too. Send them to Dunedin to get a reset; work with the trainers. Get yourself right physically and mentally and go on a rehab

What’s happened to Nate Pearson ? Any news why no call up even with all the injuries.

FO has been perfectly clear on Pearson, he’s being built up to be at least a multi inning reliever and he has to earn the promotion. Hasn’t done that yet, so far having thrown 4 appearances, all out of the pen, hasn’t gone more than 2 innings and has been 6 days between each appearance.

Doesn’t sound like he’s coming back to the rotation this season to me.

He's pitch 7.2 innings this year since missing 3 moths with mono, and he's an injury prone guy to begin with. They will ease him in more than likely and are apparently trying to stretch him into a multi inning guy.

If he had an option year left, I doubt they’d care about burning one option. You get 5 per option year I think. If you had to send him down 5 times, just cut him.

Yeah but I really don’t think going to pitch in milb games would be the goal. They’d want to work with him on mechanics and such outside of a game environment. That’s what I’d think anyway.

Just think of the player too. It’s just a better way to approach it then sending someone down if you’re thinking it’s about getting them mentally and physically reset, rather than “this person isn’t ready for this level”

So sick of seeing Tapia in the lineup.

Unfortunately with the way he's being used, I think this is beyond Charlie being Charlie. This is the organization liking Tapia and wanting him to play. I don't think there's an end in sight here, at least for this season.

He's been quite good over the past 4 weeks. He's only had one start over that time where he went hitless, and he's even been hitting for a bit of power (.500 SLG since May 24th.)

Unless that's his true talent level, Tapia needs to go. His ceiling is Ezekiel Carrera and his floor is the worst outfielder in baseball.

What are you basing either of those assessments on?

Blue Jays To Select Max Castillo, Outright Bowden Francis

By Darragh McDonald | June 18, 2022 at 10:25pm CDT

The Blue Jays are going to select the contract of right-hander Max Castillo, per Alfonso E. Saer Gomez. The Blue Jays have an open spot on their 40-man roster, due to the outright of right-hander Bowden Francis, per his transactions tracker at MLB.com. A corresponding move on the active roster has not been announced.

An international signing of the Blue Jays out of Venezuela, Castillo made his professional debut in his age-17 season in 2016. Since then, he’s worked his way up the minor league ladder, working primarily as a starting pitcher. This year, between Double-A and Triple-A, he’s thrown 56 1/3 innings with a 1.92 ERA, 28.8% strikeout rate and 10.8% walk rate. There’s certainly some good fortune in there, as Castillo has a .203 BABIP and 89.8% strand rate on the year. Nonetheless, he’s showed enough to earn a spot on the club’s roster.

It’s not clear what role Castillo will play for the Jays, though the pitching staff has taken a hit in recent days with the Tommy John surgery of Hyun Jin Ryu. That has bumped Ross Stripling from a long relief role and into a primary rotation slot. Castillo could potentially head to the bullpen and attempt to take over the job of the long man out of the bullpen.
