How long does it take to fully recover from mononucleosis?

Most people get better in two to four weeks; however, some people may feel fatigued for several more weeks. Occasionally, the symptoms of infectious mononucleosis can last for six months or longer.

I've seen octogenarians recover faster from mono.

Hopefully the guy is triple vaxxed. Has .0001% written all over him.

He’s a wienie, thats what happened.

But for real, I believe he is pitching in AAA right now and could be nearing a return

Sounds like he is healthy but his stuff has not returned

That can happen with mono if it took like 10 or 15 pounds from you...

Going to be a while for that, they want him at a starters role, he's only thrown 2.1 innings so far for the Bisons.

Yeah I guess it makes sense to stretch him to start now that Ryu is likely done for the year. Although Stripling has looked pretty good in the starting role this year…

I thought the intention was more to have him serving in a multiple inning relief role, has that reportedly changed with the Ryu injury?

That's what Ross said... and it was around the time he was out the first time around.

Looks like Chapman is starting to get hot.

How excited should I get that his BB% and K% are much close to 2018/19 Chapman than the 2020/21 version of Chapman? I just checked and his statcast stats are also very similar to 2018/19 - and he has an elite chase rate (96th percentile), while is contact rate is above 2020/21 - and only a few ticks below 2018/19. Is this some evidence that his hip injury is actually behind him and he's slowly but surely gaining confidence - potentially rounding back into the hitter he was in 2018/19?

Or am I grasping at straws?

Musing about what a story Kirk is. Short, poor, fat catcher kid discovered in Mexico who just can flat out rake defying odds. And his D is a lot better than most expected. Hard to keep in mind he is only 23. Not wanting to over react to a hot streak but you have to think his value is increasing dramatically given his D abilities starting to come through. 1.6 fWAR already!

It was much more impactful than Kirk, but I remember when Fernando Valenzuela came up in 80-81 for LAD. Another short, tubby Mexican who came out of nowhere to take the NL by storm defying the odds looking up at the sky in his delivery and throwing a screwball.

I love baseball for stories like these guys.

yeah fat/short Mexicans don't have a lot of sports they can succeed in but baseball is as good as any

Now that the ball is back to being more lively we should be extremely excited about Chapman. I'm expecting him to go on a homer binge here pretty soon. Wouldn't surprise me at all if he doubles his homer count in 10 days or so.

fat + short

baseball: it's possible. not easy, but possible.

hockey: short yes, fat not so much

basketball: short NO, fat NO but sort of if you are tall and fat

soccer: short yes, fat not so much

football: fat yes (LB), short yes (RB), but NOT BOTH

LBs aren’t fat amigo. Learn your sports. OL fat ok. DL little bit

Modern LBs seem to look like safeties used to look. Long, lean (for football players) with long pass snagging limbs. Aaron judge looks like a tight end.

Screw Rosenthal, trade for David Bednar. Poor guy is wasting away in Pittsburgh, and their FO is dumb as hell. Could probably get him for a Big Mac combo meal.

They aren’t dumb as hell any more, they hired a guy from our front office.

I'd be happy with both things happening, but I don't see Rosenthal signing with the Jays when he won't get to close very much, and I don't see the Jays trading for Bednar for the same reason.

Hopefully I'm wrong on both counts.

Jays need 2 high leverage arms imo. They don't need to be any particular 2, but 2 that can and will be effective.

I quickly looked this up and Pearson is indeed preparing for more of a bulk/hybrid role. It remains to be seen how he's actually deployed though. Maybe it could be somewhat similar to how Stripling was used in a jack of all trades/swiss army knife kind of role. He could see the occasional spot start, close on occasion, act as a fireman mid game to put out opposition rallies etc.

Pearson (illness) is preparing for a "bulky role" according to general manager Ross Atkins, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Nate Pearson will be our version of Spencer Strider and it will be glorious.

If you're referring to Ben Cherington... that's even better. Last time the Jays traded with Cherington, he traded for our manager.

Double win for the Jays this time around, trade the bongo player for Bednar.
