Gotta say I'm extremely pleased that we finished our first month 14-8! Considering we are missing our #1 catcher, our cleanup hitter and our #3 starter. We have also had an extremely difficult schedule to start the season with the exception being Texas. Our run differential is even with an expected W/L of 11-11. We've been good, but also extremely fortunate to win so many 1 run games. I complete opposite of last season. This is definitely a 100 win team! Once our bats get going I see a lot of wins in our future.

It's funny how the narrative is that the hitting is horrible and the pitching is awesome. Before today the hitting was like 5th, pitching 9th. That will change a bit after another pitcher's duel.

However just crazy when is happening to offense. Last I checked the AL was hitting .229 .300 .365 or so ... insane.

I've sang this song, no one's listening.

Well technically he did start game #3…. But yeah he’s not our 3rd best starter. Him and Kikuchi can battle for #4/5 (maybe #6 if you think Stripling is a better option)

Everything else he said was bang on

I was messing with Spanky but actually yeah, I wouldn’t bet he’s got Stripling beat

Yeah I think the league average OPS is .675 right now.

Messing with me, I just assumed you are an invalid, seems I was right.

It just makes for a more exciting game

- Rob Manfred, probably

He's probably just trolling Bauer. Make the league as pitcher friendly as possible for the next two years.. then juice the balls with robo umps when he comes back

I saw a post last week on Reddit and Chuckles was out and about late at night and now I'm seeing this? This guy is enjoying the TO night life, I'll give him that. Probably explains a lot of his lineup cards if I'm being honest. I mean we've got a day game tomorrow for crying out loud and this guy is out partying after we barely eeked out a 2-1 win and trail the Yankees by a game and a half?

That's what I liked about having Gibby as a manager. He was such an ass-backwards Texas hick that the mere thought of setting foot on foreign soil for anything other than work literally made him sick.

I heard through the grapevine that when he was manager he refused to get his own apartment and instead would sleep on an air mattress in his clubhouse office. But get this, he barely even slept and instead he'd just slam his patented loaded Diet Cokes all night while memorizing the opposing teams splits. That's why his bullpen management was so money. One of my favorite pieces of baseball trivia is that in 2015 lefty reliever Aaron Loup threw over 42 innings and didn't face a single right handed batter all season. Pretty sure Gibby gaming the system like this is why Manfred installed the 3 batter minimum rule.

Posted
I also heard that when Gibby wasn't pouring over the opposing team's splits he'd put away the air mattress and would get out the heavy bag and do some work in case he needed to fist fight one of his own players or the opposing team's manager. Dude was a legend.

Pearson’s problem is he’s a walking jenga tower and that can’t be fixed.

Innings eaters are important and I don’t think Kikuchi will be this bad going forward. He hasn’t even looked THAT bad, he’s just gotta cut the walks down a bit. He got f***ed one game by errors and looked good in the Yankees start.

That’s a Glass half full take. Kikuchi isn’t an innings eater. Not his MO. Especially since 2nd half of 21. Saying he just has to cut the walks down a bit is kind of like saying Pillar just had to get better pitch selection at the plate. I don’t think Pearson’s issues are that unique aside from getting mono lol, which was seriously bad luck. Quite a few tall pitchers such as Glasnow and May with injury issues and high ceilings. Saying to "fix" Nate was tongue in cheek. I don't think pitching coaches can fix anyone. Limits to what they can do.

Hey seeing Charlie get tossed last game was refreshing. He actually got mad and successfully saved Vlad from getting booted.

And credit where it's due - bullpen management has been pretty dang good this year. Nice use of guys like Cimber and Mayza.

Yeah, but his career k/bb is like 2.5 and right now it's 1... all he has to do is get his k/bb to career levels

His career BB/9 is 3.5. YA, its not 8/9 lol but it ain't great. The sample size since 2nd half 21, where its been more of an issue, is getting bigger.

I swear this Vinny Carpa dude appeared from thin air. But looking at his numbers he will s*** from 2018-2020 but has actually put up better numbers the higher he has climbed. I still don’t know why hes leap frogging other more intriguing options though.

Sometimes players get promoted because the organization doesn't give a s*** about them. Like they can rot on the bench and it doesn't matter, and they don't care about burning service time and options

Vinny Capra has arrived.

Biggio will be watching the games at home nervously, wondering which team has a project RP they may send the Jays

I think I would have been more intrigued by Taylor, but I'm fine with taking a look at Capra. I thought Taylor was older than he is. He's 2 years younger than Capra so I get the move. Taylor does have 12 stolen bases and it's May 1. That's pretty intriguing when you factor in a .407 OBP so far this year.

In what world are we missing our #3 SP?

I agreed 110% with this after Manoha came up last year, and without a doubt prior to the start of the season. Ryu might have started game three, but he is not our #3.

Capra and Zimmer back to back eeesh

That's really not worse than the lineups that have had Tapia, Zimmer and Heineman playing at one time.

Besides, Capra is about to hit four home runs to make you change your tune real quick.

The offence has certainly struggled to plate runs up to this point of the season, but given how much offence is down in MLB as a whole the overall team numbers rank better than expected. I did some quick digging around to compare this season's start at the plate compared to 2020, and in most ways this team has actually started better than last year's team. Through the first 22 games of the season the 2020 squad really struggled to the tune of an 81 WRC+ (25th overall in MLB) with 94 runs scored (24th overall in MLB). Through the first 22 games of the 22 games the team has produced a 110 WRC+ (10th in MLB) with 89 runs scored (13th overall). Once they start producing more with RISP the numbers should really start to take off.

Early in the season of course, but comparing Espinal's numbers and Semien's numbers kinda made me chuckle.
