Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 Tapia batting sixth tonight. I think the situation with Tilapia could be as follows: 1. The team likes him and thinks with some tweaks he will improve 2. They want to give him an extended look to try and work on these tweaks 3. They acquired him before Zimmer, a traditional bench OFer, fell into their lap 4. When Teo returns Tilapia will lose his PT, but if he doesn't improve soon he could also lose his roster spot when rosters go back to 26 5. The team wants a look at him before they go that route 6. And oh yeah, the Jays FO thinks Biggio is cheeks so they don't care that Tilapia plays more than him
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 Think of it this way - umps bad calls might impact the Jays by -1 run, and favor the opponent by +1.5 runs. That's an overall impact of 2.5 runs and in my totally random example, doesn't favor the Jays, we'll assume they lost that game. In another game, the calls might impact the Jays by -.2 runs, and favor the opponent by +.5 runs. So the overall impact is .7 runs, and still favoring the opponent. But the Jays win that game. Just trying to see if there's any correlation between well umpired games vs bad ones, regardless of which team ends up with the favoured calls. ... So far, the jays will win games that have less umpire impact and lose the ones with more impact.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 Tapia leadoff and Collins cleanup today. Kinda yucky. Nice to see Katoh get a start at 2B though!!
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 What a f***ed up lineup. 8 runs incoming
43211234 Verified Member Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 Good lord that lineup is horrendous. Might actually be one of the worst outfields the Blue Jays have ever put out to start a game.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 I’m realizing this might be the first time we’ve had more lefties in the lineup over righties for the first time in like… a decade or longer?
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 Good lord that lineup is horrendous. Might actually be one of the worst outfields the Blue Jays have ever put out to start a game. haha no way. it's got Bichette, Vlad, Gurriel, and Chapman. There have been entire Blue Jays teams with no hitters as good as any of them. Tapia, Biggio, and Collins are also not complete zeros. In theory. Zimmer and Katoh are zeros though. Still fun to see Katoh draw in for one.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 That lineup is so bad I almost feel like the Jays will score 10 runs today just because "baseball". But yeah, getting shut out wouldn't be shocking either.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 Of all the days to not DH Kirk, this is certainly one of them.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 We will need the baseball gods on our side today. I'm not sure I'd call Gausman a baseball god, but he should make quick work of the BoSox.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 Angel had the game of his life.
InsideThePark Verified Member Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 Angel had the game of his life. Theory: Angel Hernandez is actually using robot strike zone. It's a unpublicized testing of the system that the league wanted him to do because he's so bad, and there's no way he could actually be that accurate, even for 1 game.

InsideThePark Verified Member Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 lmao wow Don't worry we still had Alford on the bench to pinch run for Smoak. Boy those Jays teams had a lot of useless outfielders

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 (edited) Update: Jays are 4-0 when the ump isnt blind and affects the game by less than 1 run. Are now 2-5 when the ump's calls affect the game by more than 1 run. After Angel Hernandez last night, the Jays are 5-0 when the ump isnt blind and affects the game by less than 1 run. Are now 2-5 when the ump's calls affect the game by more than 1 run. Looking at the favoring... the Jays have had calls go their way in 5 games and are 5-1. When they arent favored, they are 2-4. Side note: who wouldve though Angel Hernandez's calls would affect the game by less than half a run? I would have put money on the over at 1.5 runs easy Edited April 21, 2022 by John_Havok
JuniorFelix54 Verified Member Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 Not at all surprising that Collins ended up 0 for 4 today seeing as Montoyo has the common sense of a flea. You do not sit a guy who is on a tear how stupid can you be? He was 8 for 15 with 2 HRs and 4 RBIs and this clown decides to bench him yesterday. Seemingly any time any brainless manager does this the guy comes back from his ill timed day off and goes 0 for and usually into a bad week from there. Remember when Gary Sanchez was good? Aaron Boobe sat him after he hit 3 HRs in 2 games a few years ago, after that he went 10 for 70 and the guy has pretty much been stool ever since. It really shouldn't be hard at all for these fools to make these blatant common sense decisions but there are a lot of bad managers
