He's currently in Scranton in the midst of a 2 for 15 slump to start the year. Although I'm not sure slump is the right word because that would imply that he's actually a better hitter than that and he's not really.

But he's a Bird. Are Yankees birds? No. He should be here with us.

I’m just gonna say it, Greg Bird would be nice as a DH right about now. Why tf didn’t they roster him. Gonna give DH starts to Zack Collins instead

Shh, anyone who was confused for even a moment with the Greg Bird decision is actually a massive dumn Greg Bird stan and needs to get better at the baseball watching.

Greg Bird projects for an 88 wRC+ and is currently sporting a 60 wRC+ in AAA. We really need to stop talking about this man lmao. Otto Lopez and Samad Taylor both project to be about as good at the plate and provide other things than being literally just a DH who can't run.

Greg Bird hit 2 home runs in spring training and it's sadly probably the best thing he's done since his rookie year. One of those homers was against Sam Howard who has a career 5.26 ERA and the other was against Reggie McClain, a guy I've never heard of and who has 16 BBs and 13Ks in brief stints at the big league level.

As Spring Training wore on, and Bird started to face actual MLB talent, he started to predictably suck ass. In his final 4 games he went 1 for 11 with 4 Ks and no walks. The guy absolutely stinks.

Bo rejected a multi-year contract offer. I wonder how much they offered.

Looks like they approached Vlad as well. Seems like they were just putting feelers out for more serious discussions after the season.

Apparently they weren't close

Sons of former star major leaguers are not going to be as easy to lock up as people hope they'll be.

Leafs fans are familiar with how annoying that process can be when the dads get involved.

a) Greg Bird is a s*** player.

B) I would prefer Greg Bird DH'ing on this team over Zack Collins.

Both those things can be true.

I would 1000% take Samad Taylor over both guys in a heartbeat but the team has not shown any indication so far that they give any sort of a s*** about Samad Taylor. They left him exposed in the Rule 5, gave him almost no exposure in spring training and reassigned him in the first wave of cuts.

There are always more ideal options but we can only really talk about the ones that seem to have been realistically considered.

Zack Collins also projects roughly similar to Bird and can at the very least be a third string catcher in case of emergency. I feel like this continued discussion over a guy who literally the rest of the league doesn't care - the Jays and Yankees included - is just kind of excessive. This is a guy who hasn't been relevant for at least 5 years.

My guess is the Jays end up keeping Vlad (contract will be enormous) and letting Bo go.

I agree and I wasn't actually trying to discuss f***ing Greg Bird tonight, lmao. Someone else mentioned him and I tacked on a passive-aggressive chirp about it based on the last s***** discussion that was had about him.

There's already been more complaining about the Greg Bird conversation in this thread than actual Greg Bird conversation.

For someone who doesn’t like discussing Greg Bird you really do talk about him a lot! Just saying!

That’s exactly what I’m thinking too

My bad, I shouldn’t have said anything. Just saw Tapia hitting 5th in the lineup today and then remembered how good Bird looked in spring and thought about how i’d much rather see his name in that spot.

You would think but then again, I'm sure years ago Red Sox fans felt the same way about keeping Betts and letting Bogaerts walk.

You can't really do much if the player isn't willing to sign a reasonable deal or just wants to test the open market.

Hey come on let's be fair, he's only discussing Greg Bird to properly portray how much he hates discussing Greg Bird. (Ripped off from my favorite moment from the Hotel Transylvania series of movies)

I can't help but wonder what kind of money Bo is looking for to sign an extension, the club would have to think they have at least a decent chance to sign him long term or they wouldn't bother trying, kind of like what occurred when David Price hit free agency. Perhaps Bo wants to eventually climb out of Vlad's shadow and become the man for his new team as he's always played second fiddle right throughout their careers. Then again having two generational talents play their entire careers together would be awfully special as well, these guys have played their entire careers together up to this point and it's obvious that they are super close.

The fourth installment of the EXCELLENT Dave Steib docuseries on YouTube is up. I may have missed it before, because it was posted 2 days ago...

Remember that we are in a more difficult situation when it comes to extensions with the three MLB sons.

The average player and more so those from the DR, Cuba, Venezuela etc, consider obtaining generational wealth in an extension. Hedging against an injury or declining performance or market factors to lock in their payday for themselves and their family. Most of the time these players came from nothing or humble roots.

Vlad jr, Bichette and Biggio have never had to worry about money a day in their lives. All three know if they had a career ending injury tomorrow, they are all three set for life.

Extensions will be very difficult IMO with at least Vlad and Bo.

It takes two of tango, so if Vlad wants to leave then there's not much the Jays could do, but I think he's the player the front office is going to give an "unreasonable" contract to (12-14 years, big money), and I think they'll be less likely to do that for Bichette. Of course I am basing that off nothing but that's the way I see it ending up. If they have to pick one or the other, it will be Vlad, and if they have to give a superstar contract out, it will be to Vlad too. Of course if they can find a way to keep both, even better.

How much of a geek do you have to be to continue quote replying someone after you know they've blocked you? lmao.

well, you noticed and commented so it worked in a way

Because Max Silver quoted it right under my comment.

And again, how much of a geek do you have to be to actively be seeking that out?

Like, is that something you'd brag to your friends about? "I kept trying to provoke this guy who blocked me on a forum in the hopes that someone would quote my comment for him to see it and then it worked, haha got 'em, I'm such an alpha."

I'm not really seeing what the end goal is and what you actually have to gain out of doing that, even when it "works."

Before I explain something to you I think it'd be helpful if I gave you a quick history lesson. You probably don't know how I got the nickname Terminator do you? Decades ago my username on the old board was POTATO_IN_MY_ASS_69. But after defeating all 400 Dogg accounts in the Great Message Board Wars (you don't see him around here anymore do you?) as well as dominating the battlefield in the Orioles Hangout War against real life celebrity Roy Firestone and his minions (you don't even see Roy Firestone on TV anymore because I forced him into retirement) the mods granted me with the title of Terminator. What that means is that I'm basically the most powerful mod on this board without actually having any mod powers because I don't need them.

Now let me explain something to you my friend. Blocking me will not help you whatsoever. Many have tried doing that over my many years of posting about Blue Jays baseball and it NEVER works. Ask real life celebrity Roy Firestone if you can even find him. The dreaded "quote replies" that you fear so much will not stop. In fact they will only increase.

Because when you register for the BJMB you are entering a cyber war zone. And in this war zone I am the Sheriff. And the Sheriff says that despite your useless block the quote replies will continue. Good luck my friend.
