Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 I thought it was gonna be Collins sent down I get the whole we need to get Kirk and Jansen at bats but it is hard to comprehend carrying 3 catchers. Really limits what you can do I get that it would suck losing the DH, but how often does your starting catcher go down due to injury? I can't remember the last time a catcher left a game I was watching (that wasn't a pinch hit/run situation). Wasting an entire roster spot on this remote possibility doesn't seem awesome to me.

Totally agree... you're concerning yourself with a very small possibility and even then, we should able to overcome losing our DH for a single game or less. I get scared that Montoyo will start Collins just because he's up with the team.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 The bench makes no sense right now. Two OF's who can't hit (in different ways) and a 3rd catcher who can't hit or catch. The only logical bench player right now is Espinal, and he might be the starting 2B soon. They need to clean that up.

Really limits what you can do Yes, it makes no sense to me. I thought the reason they traded for Collins was because they could easily send him down to the minors. IF they were going to keep three catchers why not just keep McGuire. Keeping three catchers makes no sense at all. Collins was an astute move made by the organization because they could send him down to the minors and he was there as an insurance policy incase of injury...while allowing the team to keep further depth at other positions. This move keeping Collins up....is a real head scratcher. Edited April 10, 2022 by Signal
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 Got to wonder if the moves (such as McGuire for Collins) are based on an expectation Moreno will be ready before June. Moreno up, Collins down. Moreno can play 3B if necessary. I don't get acquiring both Tapia and Zimmer though

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 Short term competition. If Zimmer looks good they could just trade Tapia for whatever Thought of that but seems wasteful to trade Castro who has an option for Zimmer who does not, to run a short term comp.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 What are our 2 biggest weaknesses? - Not enough swing and miss in our pen. We will need to add more depth over the season. - Not having at least 1 impact LHH bat yet is an issue. Going to assume we make the playoffs and face elite SP & pens. Confident they will add. Happy with 2B situation. Biggio and Espy have both been 2.5 WAR players. Biggio will figure league adjustment out. Ride the hot Espy some while it lasts.

Might be a post spring traing camp battle for CF. If Zimmer looks better than Tapia maybe Tapia gets kicked to the curb... The catching position might look a whole lot diferent come Septmeber and they want to see what they have.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 Thought of that but seems wasteful to trade Castro who has an option for Zimmer who does not, to run a short term comp. I don't think it is. Castro is fungible. Zimmer is a less fungible type of player. And short term could be a couple months; they could legitimately have a four man bench or Tapia, Zimmer, Collins, and Biggio.

Probably one of the better ones we've had in quite some time. The 5 OF's + Biggio seems like a little bit of overkill but if there's an injury to the infield then we just need to quickly option Collins for Katoh.
keggy Verified Member Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 Having an emergency catcher on the active roster makes a lot of sense to me. Keeping both Tapia and Zimmer does not. Kirk should be DHing every time that Jansen is catching.

Kirk should be DHing every time that Jansen is catching. Well they are both pretty decent players and neither has options. It's not necessarily a bad problem to have. Plus, the roster is clean right now but it can get messy in a hurry and we could quickly see them both getting a lot more playing time than we thought they would. I also like Kirk DHing a lot but mixing Springer in there once or twice a week is smart too.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 I wonder why Trevor Rosenthal hasn't signed anywhere yet? If he's healthy and looks decent the Jays should be all over him. Unless he only wants a closer role I guess.

AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 Jansen should really be the DH when he isn't catching. There's really no reason to find ways to put Tapia or Biggio or Espinal or Zimmer in, over Danny.

He had some bad babpid luck. He left a couple over, but he had one good pitch spoiled by a hit and that come backer that him him would have been an easy out. It was hit right at espi.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 Looks like getting another starter is number one priority now..
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 Looks like getting another starter is number one priority now.. I assure you that the sky is not falling. If this is how it looks after a few times through the rotation, then we can start to worry.
JuniorFelix54 Verified Member Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 Add Stripling to the list of crap pitchers, I don't care how good your hitting is you can't be successful with what Berrios, Ryu and Stripling are doing out there. It was incredible they came back from 7-0 down opening night but then they give it right back and blow a 6-1 lead today. When does ol' drunk Pete get canned btw? Someone has to take some responsibility for these guys all underperforming.

This is something this idiot has said during the fifth inning of the third game of the season when we've won the first two.

So because they won the first 2 that means the pitching isn't bad .. great argument. And of course it's the third game of the season what does it matter if they lose after a 6-1 lead right? Mattered last year when they missed the playoffs by 1 game huh?
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 So because they won the first 2 that means the pitching isn't bad .. great argument Because it's the third f***ing game after a shortened spring training. I know "I'm negative about everything because my mom never hugged me" is your entire brand, but seriously dude, you are just the worst.

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 He doesn't deserve to have his name pronounced properly. Sauce Do it is. So, Vasquez gets the call up to replace him I'd assume? Unless there's someone not on the 40 who might be preferable and Sauce Do can be DFA'd?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 Is there a reason why Vazquez didn't break camp with the MLB team?
