Springer - CF

Bo - SS

Vlad - 1B

Teoscar - RF

Kirk - DH

Gurriel - LF

Chapman - 3B

Biggio/Espinal platoon - 2B

Jansen - C

Sometimes -- Grichuk to OF, Teoscar to DH, Kirk to C, Jansen to bench.

Lineup is nuts now.

Also, imagine if Moreno can come up and supplant Jansen. Or even play second base?

And defense is solid.

I guess the OF D could be better (but rotating Grichuk in a bit helps) and Bo is just average at SS.

I suppose the obvious way to improve is to replace Grichuk with a decent LHB with CF chops. But that is a specific and hard upgrade to pull off.

i started doing this because some people said they couldn't see embedded tweets on the device they were using. I don't know if anyone has that issue anymore but i decided to keep doing it this way in case they do. I also figured it would be good because the text would still be there even if the tweet got deleted or twitter was down.

This trade is a good litmus test to see who is just a prospect-hoarding reactionary on this board. There is no one given up in this trade that would have provided much value to the Jays heightened level of contention over the next 3-4 years. And they can be easily replaced in future drafts during that time. The Jays take a mild hit in farm system rankings but when your team is basically set for the next three years, farm team rankings don't mean much.

Yeah there is maybe a 10-20% chance that Kevin Smith would have blossomed into an very good position player in the next 3 years but that's about it.

Great trade.

Logue and Snead don't have much/any value. I guess Logue has a small amount as a controllable arm with a chance to start a bit.

Smith is high risk. So is Hoglund. Both have value and could be good but odds are they will not be major contributors.

100%. They traded some fat around the edges for a clear need.

Also guys who cares about Hoglund. The success rate of first round pitchers is probably like 8%. Keep trading those first rounders for MLB talent!!

I hope you guys know the return is going to be way more significant than any of you can imagine. 1) It always is 2) They're trying to save face after missing out on Freeman 3) It's the Toronto surplus charge

This is easily the worst take on this thread.

You think this was an overpay? I would say this is much closer to a fleecing in our favour than any kind of “overpay”.

If you compare this to the Donaldson deal Hoglund is Barreto (prospect with highest ceiling, but not a perfect prospect). Smith is Lawrie (only Lawrie actually showed something in MLB). The others are throw ins.

Good deal.

Yeah it makes sense. Even if Hoglund reaches MLB it's likely he's closer to a middle of the rotation guy than a SP1. And those guys are readily available on free agency every offseason. I would only really balk at trading Shane Baz types or someone like pre-debut Manoah who was major league ready.

Hoglund was a good prospect to have but not untradeable by any means.

Really would have liked that supposed Bradley for grichuk swap that was rumored pre lockout

Nobody should care about losing Hoglund for Chapman. Not only is he a pitcher, he's a pitcher with zero pro innings who's recovering from TJS.

Bradley is worse than Grichuk

Where are the Shatkins haters now mfs?

I think a lot of them went away years ago. I wasn't a Shatkins supporter initially but they earned my trust and respect.

Happiness is not having to watch Biggio and Vlad play 3B.

Chapman deal makes sense for a lot of reasons. Smith is a sleeper, but Chapman is Rolen-esque. Fair deal.

They'll arrive when the Blue Jays take their first loss of the season.

Guess they won't be around then. 162-0

Did we have a lot on this board? The Shatkins haters were Reddit and Twitter who were in love with AA and Beeston for some reason.

I don't mean to be hyperbolic, but this team with Ramirez would have a shot at 105+ win territory with some luck and pitching health.

Easy candidate for best team since the 01 mariners.

Love this trade! Chapman firms up the IF with elite D and is another power bat in the lineup. Sign Dickerson or another OF lefty hitter and trade Grichuk for anything and we good.
