Sign me up for Stripling 2 yrs $18M, Conforto 1 yr $15M, Ottavino 2 yrs $15M. I'd like to say Montero at 3 yrs $24M, but I think that's a trap.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 I'm pretty surprised Tyler Anderson, Bassitt, Perez and Pederson were offered QO's. I think all 4 could certainly accept. Pederson had a dead cat bounce, but I can't imagine he's going to get anywhere close to $20M a year on the open market. Yeah I don't think Pederson gets anything close to $20M per year on the open market. He likely accepts. Anderson, Bassitt and Perez have a tough decision to make. They likely can get multi-year deals but nowhere near 20M AAV.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 Those bottom four should all accept. Rizzo should too but I don’t think he will. Nobody is going to want to give up a pick to sign him. Yeah I don't think Rizzo will accept even though he probably should.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 Yeah I don't think Rizzo will accept even though he probably should. I'm with you guys, the last 4 guys take the QO... rumour is the Yankees are close to a 2 year deal with Rizzo. Bassitt is 3/20M AAV by MLBTR, 17 by Fangraphs.

At 32 I think he is, I take a 3 yr or more deal, which will be there for him I have no doubt. No way Bassit should accept the QA.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 Barf. Someone will regret that. Bassit would be the third best pitcher on the Blue Jays based on Berrios last year.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 James Click is available. Fire Atkins and bring him in. That man knows how to build a bullpen.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 James Click is available. Fire Atkins and bring him in. That man knows how to build a bullpen. Shapiro would never fire Atkins. They're clearly attached at the hip and will probably go down together when the day comes.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 Bassit would be the third best pitcher on the Blue Jays based on Berrios last year. I know that. I wouldn't want him at 3 years $60M though.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 Bassit declined the QO
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 Bassit declined the QO Of course he would, dude's going to get paid.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 Click leaving the Astros because they only offered him 1 year
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 Click leaving the Astros because they only offered him 1 year Slap in the face, lol.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 Slap in the face, lol. Especially off the heels of a WS win
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 James Click was named the Astros GM in Jan 2020 Here are the players on their roster acquired during his GM tenure: Yainer Diaz Mauricio Dubon Hector Neris Ryne Stanek Seth Martinez I dunno. Maybe the thinking in Houston is that Click had little impact. The players play the games and the core was in place before Click.

Yeah probably not that big of a deal to see him go.
wamco Verified Member Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 Its worth giving him 1 more shot in the rotation, see if they can fix the mechanics/mental issues in spring training. He’s got 2 years left. I’d give him until May in the rotation, if he looks like crap then he’s in the bullpen for the rest of the contract. Piggyback him and white every 5 days as 5th starter. Looks like an outfielder in the move so my off-season prediction looks like- -trade LGJ for a reliever -trade Jansen for a SP -sign Nimmo or another OF.

I think it might take a 3rd year to get that done but I'd also consider that as well. He seems to have improved by simply throwing his best pitches more and he was a legit #3 SP this year. He's like half the price of Bassitt and I'm not sure he's any worse. Other guys we are predicted to sign: -Thor: I don't see any chance in hell of that happening. We didn't even want him for a no-name prospect at the deadline. -Benitendi: I'm not a huge fan of his but if it only took 4 years and 54 mil (13.5 AAV) for his age 28-31 seasons I'd probably do that. -Montero & Estevez: Hard pass at those prices. They don't even strike that many guys out. -Michael Brantley: 1 year 15 mil? If Gurriel or Teoscar are traded I'd consider it. I suppose if one of Jansen or Kirk is gone could consider then too. But if he just adds to the current DH/OF logjam then pass. -Clevinger: For one year 10 mil? Ok

Crane vetoed an alleged Urquidy for Contreras trade at the deadline. They apparently disagreed on the Verlander signing. So yeah just a matter of GM and Owner not seeing eye to eye. Click was gone either way, just happens that they won this year so it looks bad.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2022 Posted November 11, 2022 No one predicted us to sign Eovaldi but for 2 years 34 mil I would definitely be interested as well.

I don't mind the Jays signing Thor on a reasonable 1-year deal to be the No. 5 starter. Gives the Jays some rotation depth at least.. Benitendi or Brantley would be a nice fit in this lineup. I wouldn't go more than 4 years on Benitendi. Brantley on a one year deal for around $12-15M is actually not that bad at all. No long term commitment. Not a fan of Clevinger anymore as well. Probably could sign Thor for less. Montero and Estevez aren't going to drastically improve the pen. Go after Rogers and that's all you need. Jays have enough arms like Montero and Estevez. They need to sign a difference maker.
