I'm still pretty married to the idea of adding Rogers to really solidify the pen. You need that kind of quality to compete with the gauntlet of late innings arms that other clubs can role out. One more guy to join Romano in the late innings/high leverage mix, and the rest really falls into place quite nicely. Swanson has shown he can be pretty dominant in middle relief, no need to ask any more of him or count on Garcia, Cimber, Bass etc to be Romano's right hand man. As a bonus, Rogers adds a second lefty to the group.

They've done a great job building/solidifying the rotation with the moves the last couple off seasons - should just spend that extra 10-12M to really back them up in the BP.

Rogers would be that nice final piece to the bullpen, though not sure if they have enough payroll to go after him. He's likely getting a 5-year-deal around $60-70 million.

I believe they signed Adam Frazier yesterday. Yup, 1 year 8M, and Gibson 1/10M. I did expect a lot more, they're in on Wacha apparently.

I still expect the O's to have a good season in 2023. But yeah, shocked they never added a big FA or two this offseason.

Do you ever splurge and buy a $200 bottle of wine? Does that make you stupid? I’m not even sure that would be a proper equivalent. Maybe splurge on a pizza

At a restaurant or from the LCBO? Never have. On a special occasion if I'm going out to eat at a nice restaurant, I'll splurge $70-80 on a bottle which still feels like a rip off. But maybe once or twice a year and that's it.

I have splurged $300 on a bottle of Hennessey XO, no regrets haha.

The Yomiuri Giants of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball announced Friday that they’ve signed right-hander Tyler Beede to a one-year contract. Beede himself announced the deal as well in a video message to his new club’s fan base

Beede has thrown 187 innings in the majors

5th eh?? Higher payroll than the Astros and Dodgers??

That’s interesting to see

Dodgers will spend a little more but keep under the luxury tax threshold so they can blow everyone out of the water for Ohtani next year (or trade for him mid season and try to extend him)

Astros probably good to go as is don't really need much

Might not be too bad of a signing if he rebounds with the bat, versatile in the least. f***ing guy has a dogshit season and then stings us in the playoffs.

Dude, you gave me PTSD thinking back on that, lol. Have to smoke a bowl after that. :P

This is more like splurging on a $1000 bottle of wine - and, yes, I think splurging on a $200 bottle of wine is stupid. Difference between doing stupid things and being stupid though.

I meant comparing to someone with a $16b net worth…what spending a few day extra million on your play thing equates to

MLBTR predicted 30M/3 for what it's worth, said he may struggle to get more due to struggling in the latter half of this past season.

Relievers with that blend of missed bats, threadbare walk rates and above-average ground-ball tendencies are of the utmost rarity — particularly over a sample as lengthy as roughly four MLB seasons. Signing Rogers at this point would be an Eduardo Rodriguez-esque indication that teams simply don’t care about ERA anymore. Still, there are practically no relievers, let alone lefties, with Rogers’ K/BB/GB tendencies in the game. His prior four years of dominance ought to outweigh a poor three-month finish to the season. That’s not to say the finish won’t impact him at all; with a strong close to the season, we’d have been talking about a four-year deal perhaps in the Raisel Iglesias range.

Fangraphs had the same number.

If you can get him for 30M/3, would be pretty darn good IMO. '

I thought with the crazy market, he likely could get 15M AAV over 4-5 years. But maybe I'm wrong.

I wasn't so sure about him when you first brought him up but you've sold him on me now. I'd do the 3/30 for him for sure. We could add a player option with a buyout to kick in some more cash if needed. Fangraphs' take on him in their Top 50 article makes him sound like a picture perfect fit for us. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2023-top-50-free-agents/

#19- Taylor Rogers

I’m not convinced Rogers will get the 19th-biggest contract this offseason. He’ll be 32 next year, he’s a reliever, and he just posted negative WAR with the Brewers after coming over in a big deadline trade. It’s not the kind of profile that commands a top-dollar contract. I’m putting Rogers here because I think he’ll be a bargain acquisition, and turn some team’s bullpen into a late-inning nightmare for opponents, a model that has paid dividends in the playoffs in recent years.

I’m inclined to give Rogers a mulligan for his struggles in Milwaukee. Everything he threw turned into a home run; a 27.3% HR/FB mark is hard to recover from regardless of what else you do well. That led to some nibbling, which led to some walks, which led to the homers hurting more… it was a vicious cycle that scuttled his season. I just don’t see much reason to think that will persist into next year. Teams that already have a few solid bullpen arms could kick their unit up to the next level by adding Rogers, and the price won’t be unthinkable.

I have a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue Label King George V Edition. It was a gift, and like, even before I had to quit drinking, that was the kind of thing I had a hard time justifying actually drinking... I got married this summer and I MIGHT have considered opening it for that, but even that wasn't 100%...

They do make him sound so perfect for the Jays. The cherry on top would be the free advertising for ownership, even for road games.

Rogers Home Phone Call to the Bullpen for Taylor Rogers!

As long as he doesn't come back to Baltimore

Wonder where he could sign. Dodgers and the Yankees definitely would be interested and need a 3B. A reunion with Baltimore is possible.

Hope he stays out of the AL East though.

I've eyewitnessed this prestigious bottle, damn!

Instead of paying a yearly fee for Fantrax premium, that money should go towards buying a bottle!

lol... Beer's fine, but that single malt collection Brando had at his place was to die for, we had plenty from that collection. :P

I bought an empty Remy Martin Louis XIII bottle off Ebay for $200

I have it half full of Jack Daniels and have put it out at parties sometimes just to see what people say

That Aberfeldy 21 year old was probably the best thing I've ever had in my mouth. The Macallan 18 was a close second.

I agree with you on a Macallan 18, great stuff! Johnny Walker Blue is also smooth on the pallet for a special occasion. Unless you are a baller and can afford it on a regular basis..

Great

Now I'm picturing Machado as a Yankee and I already dislike him and the Yankees more and it hasn't even actually happened
